Out: Hogan (inj), Trengove, JKH In: Weiderman, Vince, Jones Weid takes Hogans place up forward. Vince takes Trengoves place in the backline. Jones takes JKHs place in the midfield. If anyone else is dropped than Maynard will likely be given a crack based on him being elevated to senior list and performing well again in the VFL.

Lucky the site went down after the match because I lost the plot! With a top4/8 spot on the line, we lost to the 17th placed team who have been so terrible for two months that they're being accused of tanking. One of the most disappointing performances I can remember. The worst part was seeing how many tackles we missed or allowed to be broken. It was one of the weakest tackling displays we've served up in a long time. Our players seemed to tackle opponents standing still and still fall over or get brushed aside. Even guys like Viney and Petracca who should bury their opponents were getting brushed aside like ants. Was absolutely infuriating!

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 19

No change is a good result for us. Next week Jones and Vince back and we'll be fielding our best team all year at the right end of the season. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 19

No Tarrant, no Wood and a battler ruckman who hasn't played at AFL level for months... if we can't win this match we may as well throw in the towel. Get it done Dees! Percentage! -
The Christian Salem or Nathan Freeman thread
Lord Travis replied to hardtack's topic in Melbourne Demons
We definitely got this pick right out of Salem or Freeman in the end. There were better options we could've taken at pick 9 in hindsight; Cripps, Ben Brown, Zach Merrett, Zac Jones and Matt Crouch all go alright. If Salem can stay healthy he will be a real weapon for us with his kicking skills. I prefer him through the midfield as a point of difference to the group of bull inside mids we have. Shame Freeman's body hasn't held up. He had all the attributes to be a Dangerfield/Judd type inside midfielder with burst of pace and strength from stoppages. Would've been good to watch, but don't think his body will ever let him get there now. -
Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever

Great news if true. If quality is available then you go after it. What do we all think a realistic trade would be? First round pick and either a late pick or fringe player? -
I think it will come with maturity. We definitely don't have the killer instinct yet, evidenced by the fact we have the lowest percentage of any team in the top 8. We often dominate periods of games but don't convert that dominance into scoring. The fact we were only 5 goals up at half time against Port on the weekend was pretty poor. Based on the stats we should've been 80 points up. I think with more maturity and synergy between young core players we will start to win by bigger margins that more reflect our dominance in games. At this stage in our development though it's good we are managing to stick tough and win close games. Even a few months ago we were losing close games constantly so there's clear improvement already being shown.

Just reported that Jetta came off at training after rolling his ankle? Not sure if he will play this weekend. Hopefully it is nothing serious. https://twitter.com/BenGuthrie_/status/889696972323422209

No changes this week unless Jones is fit and ready. Surely we finally beat the Kangas. The losing streak to them is an embarrassing joke! We need to beat them to keep on track for finals, and we also need to build our percentage as it's currently the worst of all the teams in the 8.

He somehow has this reputation of being a "good bloke" when he's actually a dirty sniping [censored]. Doesn't mind exaggerating a bit of contact either, will probably wind up on Home & Away after he retires from football. Greene is a fool for taking the bait and belting him though, even if he did exaggerate the contact (again). I posted the following in this weeks Post-game thread regarding Rance. "Rance is one the dirtiest and overrated players of the past 20 years. He constantly whacks opponents in the guts, clobbers them over the back of the head and pretends he is going for the ball and eye gouges opponents. In the Tigers game against the Bulldogs earlier this year he eye gouged two opponents and nearly concussed one by belting him over the back of the head when he couldn't contest an aerial ball. Nothing came of it though. He's a protected species by the AFL though due to his religious beliefs and media work. And how about when he king hit Watts last year because he was getting beaten by every opponent he played on and cracked the sads! And in a week where someone had died from it and it got heaps of media attention. The AFL managed to get that swept under the rug quickly with his suspension and no one in the media ever mentions it, just what a star and amazing player he is etc etc *fap fap fap* When he gets made to play one on one against an opponent, he more often than not loses, even when they're considerably smaller than him. When he's allowed to roam around with no opponent, no pressure and cut off high balls as a freebie, the media jerk themselves stupid likes he's the second coming of Christ. It's pathetic. He's one of the most overrated and dirty players in my lifetime and it disgusts me that he is so adored."

Correct, he did not duck. He took the ball going full speed and did not duck. That was a careless tackle by a guy so was frustrated he was being repeatedly beaten at contests by a bloke who is 22cms shorter and 25kgs lighter. Dixon lashed out in frustration because he is a sook and a proven loser. Amazing to think he is nearly 27 years old already and still can't string it together. Loser. Jetta on the other hand busts his ass with hard work and has become one of the best defenders in the league over the past few years. He's All Australian standard. And a winner.

Didn't see the match or incident but it doesn't surprise me to read he's done that and nothing will come of it. Rance is one the dirtiest and overrated players of the past 20 years. Absolute demolition. We should be 100 points up already. 15-2 in the clearances! They can't even get their hands on the ball! Keep this pressure up and we win comfrtoavly even if we run out of legs after the long trip last week. Go dees!

Great to see. With Daisy and Flash now as mascots it's great to be so diverse and inclusive. The club is definitely one of if not the best in the league for helping different communities and including all. Proud to be a Demon!
-
Having attended games against all other clubs over the years I can confirm both the above are 100% correct.
-
Even last year when he was dropped still pulled in 19 disposals, 5 tackles and 6 clearances. Not mind blowing stats but not exactly poor either. He unarguably outperformed guys like Oliver, Harmes and Bugg but was still dropped. I think the pace issues or overblown on here. At worst Jack will give it his all and win a share of contested ball and lay a bunch of hard tackles. Whether he is in the plans or not long term shouldn't effect how he is judged on his match day performance. If he does his part and wins some hard ball and puts in defensively that's all I'd ask. Best of luck Jack!

Looking ahead ... the Path to September
Lord Travis replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
We should win another 3-4 unless the wheels fall off and the kids all tire out like at the end of last year. Top 4 is a pipe dream. I just want to make finals and then see what happens from there! -
He played his best football streaming forward as a more outside player in his first year. He's got good smarts, decent pace, a good long kick and loves to stream forward towards goal. Wing and half back flank are where he will settle long term IMO.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 18
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Huge ins. That team looks like our best on paper for a long long time IMO Get Jones back and it's a bloody strong team that others will fear! This should be a red hot game! -
Starting on the bench. Great to see him finally make it into the team! Best of luck Jack!

He got better as the game went on, got to the right spots and clunked most of his marking attempts. He's still getting his touch back, and he is clearly not as fit as he'd like to be at the moment. He was blowing up in the third when usually he'd just keep leading up the wing or start grappling someone. For a big guy he is normally very fit and mobile, that's why he often plays his best football further up the ground. It's interesting when he plays up the ground he is forced to lead and usually clunks lots of marks out on a lead. When he plays deep, whether due to having the space blocked in front of him or lack of fitness/laziness/frustration, he always calls for it out the back and tries to wrestle 2-3 opponents instead of leading. I reckon it's part attitude, but definitely part fitness. In a few weeks time with more gametime under his belt I think we'll start seeing him lead more and play some really good footy. He's obviously had a horrible year personally, so no point criticising the bloke, just making observations and looking to how he will improve and produce his best football again.
-
He was very good last night and did his bit in a midfield missing a number of key players. Has had a decent few weeks, hopefully he is just starting to gear up for finals!
-
Happy with the endeavor from the players but disappointed with the result causing a dint in our percentage. Didn't expect us to win I was hoping we could finish closer when we were 3 goals down with 10 mins to go.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 17
Lord Travis replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
So no Tyson or Watts this week. After scraping over the line against Carlton, I don't think we'll be able to get the job done again against the Crows. The week after though, Watts and Tyson back against Port at the G, we're a real show to get that win and knock off our nearest top 4 rival!
