I am still quietly confident that Brodie Grundy will help the Demons out during the finals and have an impact for us. Especially against teams who play 2 ruckmen. The balance of Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn playing together and kicking goals worked well in the Pre-Season matches against St. Kilda and Richmond. I was genuinely excited after those performances. Sadly, I don't know what went wrong after that. 🤷🏼♂️

Kane Cornes is just a shock jock really. He says controversial things just for the sake of it. Very boring! 🥱 Good on Russell "Robbo" Roberston for standing up for Simon Goodwin, Clayton Oliver and the Melbourne Football Club though! I know "Robbo" is the MC/Host for Melbourne Demons Home Games at the MCG. He does a great job there! However, I would love to see him more in the media. If they ever brought back a variety Football TV show (kinda like the Footy Show or Live and Kicking) then "Robbo" could easily host it and even play in a band due to his musical talents.

When will Melbourne break these embarrassing records?

Back in 1981?! No idea. Probably only a few thousand. I reckon Ron Barassi signed one master copy and the rest were photocopies. -

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Supreme_Demon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
It really is a bit of a quandary dealing with who to pick. I think with a top 5 pick you gotta go best talent available. However, wants and needs also need to be taken into account. Here are the "current" rankings for the first round of the 2023 AFL National Draft: https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/38116519/afl-draft-power-rankings-august-2023-jasper-chellappah-first-round-locks-starting-take-shape At picks 5, 6 or 7 it has the Demons taking either Nate Caddy, Nick Watson or Zane Duursma. You would have to be "over the moon" with any of those choices. All of them exceptional young football talents. Anyway, I will reiterate that I have total faith in Jason Taylor and the rest of the MFC recruitment team. 🙏 -
Cheers for that. I personally always find it interesting to know who players barracked for before getting recruited by the Melbourne Demons.

Great stuff! A piece of MFC history there. Ron Barassi was right! But it took 40 years instead of the planned 5! 🤣 Hopefully they had photocopiers back in 1981 otherwise Ron Barassi was signing a lot of letters! 😯 -
Simon Goodwin extends contract to end of 2026
Supreme_Demon replied to Satan's topic in Melbourne Demons
Wonderful news! This is a massive show of faith in Simon Goodwin. It also shows what high regard the Melbourne Football Club has in Simon Goodwin as our coach to lead us into the future. The great thing about doing this before the finals is Simon Goodwin can now fully focus all his attention on winning more Premierships for the Demons! 🔴🔵👹 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆.... -
Well done on the excellent interview with Jake Melksham, Andy! It was fantastic! I greatly appreciate both you and Jake Melksham taking the time to do this. 😎👍🏻

It's probably a bit too late to ask further questions I assume? I would just like to know what his junior footy was like growing up in Glenroy and playing for the Calder Cannons in the Under 18s TAC Cup (as it used to be called)? He was a pretty talented junior player who won the "best on ground" on the TAC Cup Grand Final actually. Who did Jake Melksham barrack for as a kid growing up? I think it may have been Essendon. Anyway, looking forward to listening to the interview! 🙂
-
Hopefully not! 😯 Although I would like to see Daniel "Disco" Turner play a few more senior games for the Demons. Apparently he dominated in his game back from injury for Casey in the VFL. The kid has talent and has had some rotten luck with injuries.
-
He has more Instagram followers. Trent Rivers needs to get his jumper ripped off in a match. That will boost his popularity. 🤣
-
No idea what has happened to James Harmes. 🤷🏼♂️ He may have been an emergency for the Demons Vs Hawks game at the MCG. However, I think others mentioned he was being managed? I know he has had personal issues so I just hope he is doing alright.

Apparently Melbourne was that awful in 1981 (the year I was born) that the coach at the time, Ron Barassi, wrote an apology letter to all Melbourne Demons members! 😖 I can't find it at the moment. But I know a copy of the letter exists somewhere online. 🤔 Who would ever think that 40 years later we FINALLY would win a Premiership in 2021! -
Yes, I agree regarding Big Benny Brown. I think his knee is stuffed and he is totally cooked. 😔
-
Maybe Garry Lyon is onto something here? 🤔 I wouldn't mind seeing Trent Rivers get more of a run in the midfield. Especially with that massive booming kick of his! I remember Trent Rivers was given some midfield time in the pre-season against St. Kilda down at Moorabbin.

Any further news about a Home Base in Caulfield? Thought I should ask as it is something I am extremely passionate about in regards to our beloved Melbourne Football Club finally having a proper Home Base.
-
Wow! I didn't think we would get this close to 70,000 members! This is an incredible effort by all the Melbourne Demons supporters who signed up as members in 2023. Well done to all Melbourne Demons members! 🔴🔵👹 To think that way back in 1998 (when I first become a Melbourne Demons member) we were lucky to merely have 20,000 members. However, that was 25 years ago. It also proves the point that you need to have sustained on-field success and win Premierships to boost your membership numbers.

Well done on getting this exclusive interview with Jake Melksham, Andy! Brilliant work! 😎👍🏻 I would ask him if he is enjoying his new role in the Demons forward line which seems to be negating the opposition team's primary interceptor and is he keen to play on next season? Furthermore, I would just personally congratulate Jake Melksham that he has now played over 100+ games for the Melbourne Demons and hopefully he can reach 250+ AFL games. I think he is getting closer to that milestone? 🤔 On a slightly different topic, I am still hopeful @Demonland (Andy) can possibly lure the very elusive Mark "Choco" Williams to do an interview? I would be extremely excited about that! 😃

An awesome podcast as always! Thank you immensely Andy, Binman and the super-sub George (for this week)! Keep up the good work! 😊

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Supreme_Demon replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
My apologies "Bitter but optimistic" but I only know what has been written online about Ollie Murphy. I found these 2 quotes. Quote 1: From Cal Twomey on the AFL website. "A leading key defender in the group who can shut down opponents as well as be an intercept and contested marker. He has had some moments in attack and the ruck at different levels this year but has been best suited to a defensive post, where he's among the top group of his kind in the 2023 class." Quote 2: From Justin Chellappah on the ESPN website. "Murphy's competitiveness and reading of the ball has been a revelation after spending time forward and on a wing in previous seasons. The East Brighton Vampire is composed and has neat skills to go with defensive intent, and he joins a long list of elite footballers to claim Vic Metro MVP honours. A good showing at the draft combine could see Murphy rocket into top-10 calculations. Plays like: Sam Taylor" Anyway, I hope that helps? -

With the Demons getting either draft pick 4 or 5 (thanks Freo!) I would be happy to recruit one of the nine following talented young players in this year's 2023 AFL National Draft. 1) Nate Caddy Northern Knights/Vic Metro FWD/MID, 192cm, 91kg 2) Zane Duursma Gippsland Power/Vic Country FWD/MID, 189cm, 79kg 3) Nick Watson Eastern Ranges/Vic Metro FWD, 170cm, 66kg 4) Connor O'Sullivan Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country DEF/FWD, 198cm, 92kg 5) Darcy Wilson Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country MID, 185cm, 73kg 6) Ollie Murphy Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro DEF, 200cm, 85kg 7) George Stevens GWV Rebels/Vic Country MID/DEF, 189cm, 84kg 8) Colby McKercher Tasmania Devils/Allies MID, 181cm, 73kg 9) Ryley Sanders Sandringham Dragons/Allies (originally from Tasmania) MID, 186cm, 85kg This is is no particular order though as I have faith in Jason Taylor and the MFC recruiting team. 🙏 -
It is obvious we are still trying to settle our forward line. Hence why Josh Schache was given a chance (and unfortunately failed). I would like to see Tom McDonald play this week against the Swans. Even if it is as the "super sub". I think we can beat the Swans at the SCG this week. But it will definitely be a massive challenge.
-
Kozzie Pickett was a bit off yesterday. But I think he'll bounce back against the Swans. My only criticism is he flies for too many unrealistic speccys. He keeps wanting to take mark of the year! Which I think he has the ability to do one day. But he needs to focus more on his strengths as a crumber and being front and square to get goals. Let the big key forwards fly for the marks first.

Here are my 5 questions for the Demonland podcast later this evening. 1) We still seem to be tinkering with our forward line. Seeing as he played well at VFL level, kicking 3 goals, should we bring in Tom McDonald against the Swans? Where do we find room for Bayley Fritsch? 2) What does the future hold regarding our Brodie Grundy conundrum? Will he get a chance to play in the finals? I think we will need him against any team that plays 2 ruckmen. 3) Thoughts on Bailey Laurie's game against the Hawks? I thought he did a few positive things. A couple of good kicks as well as a great tackle in the centre of the ground. 4) I thought Joel Smith had an excellent game yesterday. He is the ultimate swing-man playing up forward and in defence. Where do you think his preferred position is? I think he is an ideal forward pocket. 5) Who gets dropped this week against the Swans? Kozzie Pickett was poor but I have faith he will bounce back this week. Adam Tomlinson is as slow as treacle but he allows Jake Lever and Steven May to play with more freedom when we have 3 key tall defenders. But would it be better bringing in Michael Hibberd to play on the Swans dangerous small to medium forwards?
