Excellent stuff! 😎👍🏻 I think we should easily reach 65,000 members soon. Getting to 70,000 members might be a stretch though. But fingers crossed we make it! 🤞 GO DEMONS!!! 🔴🔵👹

Here are my questions for the Demonland podcast this week. Firstly, what the hell happened against Essendon?! Was Simon Goodwin outcoached by Brad Scott? Secondly, is it just me, or is Adam Tomlinson a mere shadow of the player he was before his ACL injury? Should we continue to give him games or let Daniel "Disco" Turner have a chance? Thirdly, what is wrong with Ben Brown's back? Should we look to give Josh Schache an opportunity in the Demons forward line? Fourthly, with Charlie Spargo unfortunately getting concussed, should we give Bailey Laurie another go at AFL level in the senior side or leave Jake Melksham in the team to play that role? Fifthly, will Max Gawn be hopefully fit and ready to return this week against the Tigers? We desperately need him, but I don't wish to rush him back either. Finally, what do we need to do to beat Richmond on ANZAC Eve?

I am bitterly disappointed about how poorly the Demons played against the Bombers. We really were off our game and there were many poor performances. The Demons played dumb football too with a lot of terrible decision making. Brad Scott outmanoeuvred and was tactically a bit too clever for Simon Goodwin in the coaches box. However, the poor endeavour of our players compared to Essendon's needs to be taken into account. Overall, a horrible day yesterday and the sooner we get Max Gawn back the better.

It greatly annoys me how Hawthorn gets things so easily. They have gone from Glenferrie Oval to Waverley Park and now to this place in Dingley. Whereas, we are still struggling to sort out even ONE location! We will have to do our own fund raising too I reckon. Whether it is for Gosch's Paddock or Caulfield Racecourse remains to be seen. How much will it all cost to get our Home Base built is another question....$100 million? $200 million? Even $500 million? If I ever win the lottery I am happy to contribute a significant amount.

My apologies, I meant Jake Stringer! In response to @binmanregarding Jake Melksham. I think he has been serviceable as the "super sub" (23rd man) for the Demons. Particularly in the games against the Bulldogs and the Swans where he kicked goals. I don't see a problem getting Jake Melksham to 100 games for the Melbourne Football Club. He must only be about 3 games off reaching that milestone? But let's face it, I will be surprised if he doesn't retire at the end of this season.

Hello there, My questions are as follows. What do we need to do to beat Essendon? Who are the danger players at Essendon we need to be mindful of besides Luke Stringer? If Michael Hibberd is out due to achilles soreness who do we replace him with? When James Harmes returns from personal leave should he play in the Casey Demons team in the VFL first? Should we persist with Harry Petty in the forward line or bring back Ben Brown if he has recuperated from his back injury? Who should we use as the "super sub" (23rd man) against Essendon?

Some great stories here about being a Melbourne supporter. It all connects into the rich history and culture of the Melbourne Football Club. My journey to become a Melbourne supporter is a little different to others. I remember in grade prep at Primary School getting the stimorol footy cards with the chewing gum. I liked the 1980s Melbourne Demons logo. I also liked drawing pictures of Monsters, Devils and Demons when I was at school. So much so that my primary school teacher in grade prep thought my parents might be devil worshippers! When I learnt there was a football team called the Demons I just had to barrack for them! It also helped that in 1987 the Demons made the finals for the first time in many many years. Oddly, one time, my Mum got me a St. Kilda jumper to wear from K-Mart even though I wanted a Melbourne jumper and I HATED that! I remember doing Vic-Kick (before Aus-Kick) with St. Kilda players and learning to handball and kick. They said I looked like Trevor Barker (because of ny blonde hair) and I was like "who the hell is he?". 😂😆😁🤣 My Dad was actually a Collingwood supporter but that was only because of work friends and he had a soft spot for the red and blue colours as he used to go to watch Port Melbourne play in the VFA. I was successfully able to convert my Dad to become a Melbourne supporter as well as the rest of my family. My Mum used to have a yellow and black pencil case at school and that is why she used to barrack for Richmond. But she wasn't really that interested in football. However my Grandad and my Uncles on my Mother's side where all Carlton supporters. Although I also had an Uncle and an Aunty as well as cousins who are all Hawthorn supporters. A few of my other cousins barracked for Carlton or Essendon. Converting my Dad, Mum, brothers and sister to become Melbourne Demons supporters was pretty impressive though! I grew up in the South-Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. In the areas of East Burwood, Forest Hill, Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley. My favourite Demons players growing up were Garry Lyon, Allen Jakovich, David Schwarz, David Neitz and Jeff Farmer. I was fortunate to have a few Melbourne supporters living in my street where I grew up. There was always a handful of Melbourne supporters at both my primary school and high schools that are went to in the late 1980s and all throughout the 1990s and 2000. However, being in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne the majority of people barracked for a broad variety of clubs. This included primarily Hawthorn and Essendon supporters as the most numerous. As well as a number of Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton, St. Kilda, Geelong and West Coast supporters. There were even a few Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne supporters, but not many. I was lucky that Melbourne had good seasons in 1994 and 1998. Although in 1997 when the Demons won the wooden spoon it was pretty miserable. Overall, though I have always been a pretty massive Melbourne Demons supporter since I was 6 years old. My Dad still calls me a fanatic! 🤣😂😆😁

After an impressive win against the Sydney Swans on Sunday, I am hopeful of another big boost in Melbourne Demons membership numbers this week. Fingers crossed we make it to 60,000 members again very soon! 🤞

Another excellent podcast! Well done Andy, Binman and George! We all love your work! GO DEMONS!!!! 🔴🔵👹

Great to hear there has been some progress! 😎👍🏻 Looking forward to hearing more news on our Home Base for the Melbourne Football Club in 6 months time.

Clayton Oliver was absolutely magnificent in his 150th game for the Melbourne Football Club. He has such a voracious appetite for the footy and always goes in hard for the ball. Tough as nails too! Kicked 2 goals and got 25 possessions too. It was a great game! Well done Clarrie!

Apparently it was mentioned on Fox Footy on TV earlier this evening that Clayton Oliver could well be the early favourite for the 2023 Brownlow Medal. Any thoughts on this? Obviously Premiership Medallions are far more valuable, but it would be a wonderful individual achievement if our Clarrie could win this year's Brownlow Medal for 2023. Anyway, if he continues to have outstanding performances like he did in his 150th game with 25+ possessions and kicks 2 or 3 goals again he will definitely keep gaining votes from the umpires. Especially as there are now 4 field umpires. So I am now assuming the votes are 4, 3, 2, 1 rather than the previous 3, 2, 1? However, I am unsure how the voting system will work this year in games compared to previous years. I guess we shall wait and see? Either way, it would be fantastic to have a new Brownlow Medallist at the Melbourne Football Club. It has been a long time since Shane Woewodin won a Brownlow Medal back in 2000. Fingers crossed it could be our Clarrie in 2023! 🤞 We really are incredibly lucky to have such a champion footballer like Clayton Oliver at the Melbourne Football Club! GO DEMONS!!! 🔴🔵👹

Questions for the podcast. Should we rest Ben Brown against West Coast if he has a sore back? Would it be worthwhile giving a debut to another young Melbourne player this week? Blake Howes (more likely) or even Matthew Jefferson perhaps? Especially due to how decimated West Coast is with injuries. Who do we leave out of the Demons side to allow Kozzie Pickett back in? Lastly, is Clayton Oliver the early favourite for the 2023 Brownlow Medal?
-
West Coast have had like 4 or 5 injuries in one match. That is an absolute shocker! It may be showing my age a little bit.....but I remember the days when when we would absolutely DREAD playing West Coast in Perth. Funnily enough, it may actually be the other way around this week. How times have changed!!!
-
Great to see both Matthew Jefferson and Blake Howes have excellent games for the Casey Demons in the VFL. Developing very nicely! If they keep it up with consistent performances they may both earn chances to debut in the Senior AFL side later in the year. Either way, there is no intense pressure on them and they can simply go about just playing footy in the VFL until they are ready for the next step up to AFL.
-
Doing an absolutely incredible job he is Jason Taylor! Although, credit where credit is due, the entire Melbourne Football Club recruitment team needs to be congratulated.

A great game and a great win! A wonderful debut game from Jacob van Rooyen. Glad we had a win for Clayton Oliver's 150th game! Hopefully Ben Brown's back is ok? Bring on West Coast next week! GO DEMONS!!!! 🔴🔵👹
-
Fantastic news! Congratulations to Jacob van Rooyen in finally having his debut game! Hopefully the BIG ROOSTER goes in hard at the ball and shows plenty of aggression with his tackling, smothering and shepherding. Jacob definitely reminds me of the two Davids in Neitz and Schwarz. Good luck Jacob! Smash those Swans!!! GO DEMONS!!!! 🔴🔵👹

Welcome to Demonland Oliver Sestan
Supreme_Demon replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
100% agreed. Ollie Sestan is genuinely talented. I watched the Casey Demons VFL match online and Ollie reminds me of Leigh Matthews with his build and those strong hips that can break tackles easily. This year I think he just needs to continue working away at VFL level with no pressure or expectations on him and next season we can see if he can also get fit enough to play in the midfield. -
An excellent and incredibly informative interview with Selwyn Griffith. Well done and I look forward to many more interviews with various people at the Melbourne Football Club. Thank you guys! It is wonderful the work you do with these podcasts! Fingers crossed that @Demonlandcan possibly please grab the mysterious and eccentric genius Mark "Choco" Williams for an interview some time in the future. Now that would be an AWESOME interview as well! 🤞

Will our Demons have another competitor
Supreme_Demon replied to DeeVoted's topic in Melbourne Demons
I have a soft spot for Norwood too. Their SANFL Premiership in 1997 over the Port Adelaide Magpies was a bright spark in a very gloomy year for Melbourne who received the ignominious 'Wooden Spoon'. However, the likelihood of the 'Redlegs' entering into the AFL is very low. Especially as all the SANFL clubs (including Norwood) teamed up to form the Adelaide Crows to prevent Port Adelaide entering the AFL in 1991. In my opinion, I think the more likely 20th AFL team would be Darwin (Crocodiles?) or the Canberra (Cobras?). Although, we are probably a long way off that happening. It is worth mentioning that Canberra, and the ACT in general, actually has a deep and rich history of Australian Rules Football as can be read about via this link here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football_in_the_Australian_Capital_Territory -
I would like to know more about Selwyn Griffith as well. Where is he from originally? I know he worked previously with the Brisbane Lions I think? Did he play Aussie Rules Football growing up? Who did he barrack for as a kid? What have been the main differences he has noticed between the Melbourne Demons and his time previously at the Brisbane Lions?

I still don't believe we actually "tanked" in 2008 and 2009. We were just absolutely terrible and uncompetitive. We really went through some dark times from 2007 until 2017 (and 2019). Leaving games at 3 Quarter Time became a regular occurrence for us as Melbourne supporters. I remember how terrible 1997 was. Especially in the shadow of the failed merger attempt with Hawthorn in 1996. I remember the only positive was that at the end of the year we recruited Jeff White (almost snatched Peter Matera) and we got the number 1# draft pick in Travis Johnstone. But the 1970s and early 1980s are either before my time or when I was far too young to remember. I am assuming that from 1965 until 1986 it was just as horrible and bleak? The only shining light being the mercurial and sublime Robbie Flower in the 1970s and 1980s. Back in those days then you didn't even have a draft with top talent to choose from at the end of the year. It was all structured around a flawed zoning system. So therefore finishing on the bottom of the ladder with the 'Wooden Spoon' was the only prize you got besides being laughed at by opposition supporters. Ending our 57 year Premiership drought in 2021 was glorious though and it has definitely healed those deep psychological scars. Nevertheless, we should never forget those tough times and make sure we don't have to endure something so horrific ever again.

An excellent podcast as always! Thank you for answering my questions @Demonland. Hopefully the match committee gives in to the "pressure" from all of us here at Demonland and selects Jacob van Rooyen in the Melbourne side against Sydney. Time to unleash the Rooster! GO DEMONS!!! 🔴🔵👹
