WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
BEN BROWN The key forward has elected Melbourne as his preferred club after Essendon expressed interest. The Demons are not willing to part with pick No.25, however, which could make a quick deal difficult. Told he was surplus to requirements at North, reducing the possibility of a prime draft pick in return. (AFL.com.au)

Mahoney's Trade Plan
Suggest there is two things always in play: strategic list improvement and opportunistic list improvement. Brown was opportunistic and we swooped, Smith was strategic, but we got beaten. Would think we are looking for a small forward and outside midfielder/winger as strategic needs, but we will only take them if they improve our list (compared to what we have) and don’t destroy the salary cap. If they think Oscar will be better than Phillips at 1/2 the price, then we don't need to act. If someone is available cheap, then we have a go like we did with Brown. I like the idea of moving up if we can, but am more and more happy with the Kozzie pick last year. Mahoney may simply be waiting for opportunities to present themselves (even a Treloar) rather than trying to pick off a player (like the druggies are with Dunkley).

TMac on the Trade Table?
Matt Rondell thinks it might be a ‘good fit’. I can think the moon is made of cheese - doesn't make it real. Not even a rumour, simply some old hack having an ‘opinion’ of what could be a good fit. Pies are in so much trouble right now, they have so much to sort out that a play for T-Mac would be well down the list of things to do.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Look forward to yelling ‘Sideshow’! As he takes a mark and nails the goal from 50 many times at the ‘G!!!

Joe Daniher
700k for 3 years? I’d take that to lie in the sun and get my groin rubbed. our kossie pickup looks awesome now. All these additional picks will mean that our pick swap moves back, and back, and back..... last year was fairly clear, this year the top 10 could have 2 or more additional picks added

I really want Geelong to do an Adelaide and PLUMMET. Higgins, Smith and Cameron dont deal with the issues that saw them kick 2 goals to 8 in the second half of the granny. I thank Dr Evil for sharing insight, even if things changed. Looks like they came late and hard so what may have been virtually decided was upset at the 11th hour. Phillips anyone? Or stick with sauce????

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
The Dockers obviously think he is surplus to needs. Not a good look 2 years after getting him from us, on the back of 5 years of begging and tempting him. at his best, Jesse is an absolute jet. Should be commanding Jeremy Cameron Type interest. Yet the bulldogs who need a forward are into Mason Cox instead? Rated behind dodgy hips Daniher? Must be something really stinky. I do wish him good fortune, but he has gone backwards fast.

Adam Treloar
Not on that salary, but otherwise yes. The ongoing cost is the issue.

Then it makes less sense for Geelong, and no sense for anyone else. Suspect we are looking for a role player to assist the team, rather than unearthing the next Dusty or Trac with this pick. He has plenty to prove - that he is up to AFL Standard and worth more than hawks were valuing him at.

Another lifestyle move? Don’t these guys know that it’s only a 10 minute drive to the Collingwood children’s farm from AAMI park?

TMac on the Trade Table?
I would put TMAC back to CHB after getting him fit, and brining brown up front. OMac surplus to needs. Goal to Goal line of May, TMAC MAX, Weidemann, Brown. Would almost be the best in the business.

Another small forward would be high on my shopping list, too. I dont think Sideshow Bob was a ‘needs’ play, more an opportunistic one. I would think we saw the opportunity and decided it was an unexpected windfall. If he nominates us, he will play more games than most players selected in the second round of most drafts. I also think you can’t judge a deal in isolation, and the final balance of the draft and trade period is when it is reasonable to assess the result.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Don’t want to get between all of you, but we used our first pick on Kozzi last year. Ben Brown will be a second rounder, or a combo of picks we get from a complex set of ins and outs. Back to your normal interactions.....

2020 Grand Final
Can they continue the violence, and last man standing wins the Covid cup?

2020 Grand Final
I really want to see both of these teams plummet to the depths for a decade or so. Would have preferred a port/Bris GF rather than these two teams. Whatever happens, the outcome will be insufferable.

Jesse Hogan on the way out at Freo?
So am I! I think Jesse at his best would be a dream addition. Not sure we ever consistently saw it. Think there may be off-field, attitude and even mental health issues that will be in play in the long term. Perhaps the early drafting was not suited to him - a bit longer at home to mature and really develop a fire to play might have seen Jesse become something special. I think he is an expensive risk given recent history and dramas. With list sizes reducing and salary cap pressure, I dont think he would come cheap. I hope he finds form, but dont think it would be great list management to take him back. Suggest a rookie approach like Bennell is the go, but doubt he would be in for that.

Farewell Mitch Hannan
We should get two first round picks and a packet of Jaffas. On second thought, a second rounder and an unsucked mintie.
-
Jeremy Cameron
RFA - compo would be pick nine. Watch GWS match and go for two first rounders - equal to what Geelong got for Tim Kelly. Geelong have 3 of them. Geelong will have to get a few big contracts off the books to get this done.

What wins finals?
Reflecting on what it takes to win finals: Rock solid defence - every player has a defensive role Contested ball and clearance wins A game changer player who does some extraordinary things. The ability to deliver inside 50 (against other rock solid defensive units) I think we are not too far away on 1.When we ran hard both ways we looked OK, but this year our half forwards and some midfielders were routinely average at this, which cost us games. I think we should be at the level on point 2, but we have to enhance clearance from contested ball wins. Too often we are at the contest, but get done in the clearance. We have Petracca and some cameos for point 3, and would need to have one or two more super-classy players to tick this off. Point 4 is still a serious concern. We could have Dunstall and Lockett inside 50 and still be rubbish given how poor we delivered the ball in there. It cost both Port and Brisbane the games last weekend, and we are no-where close. Its not about Only making finals, its about winning them.

The warped draft
I forgot about that rule change. The deeper picks (after about 40) almost have no consequential value. For the Dogs, getting 3000 points is going to be a challenge and will take their mid first round and second round, and maybe change. With that rule change, i guess they will have maybe one opportunity to pick split.
-
The warped draft
So if all are taken up to say pick 23, that is pick 30 at best (maybe 33 or so). As the OP suggests, it then winds the other way as all of the points used soak up picks. Anything outside the top round in most drafts is a lottery, anyway. Would suspect this means teams will take their priority option, give up the points, then use later selections to upgrade rookies to get their 3. GC are set for a feast. Can see a lot of first round picks being traded out for later points or future picks as well. Not sure this was the intention when all of this began - but that is what you get from the AFL.
-
The warped draft
Looks like 4 in the top 25, and a GC direct draftee. So our pick 23 pushed back 4 places by NGA’s, and probably several compo picks. So pick 23 more like 30.
