3 years? Would want to be on low coin with clauses. No guarantee he is coaching material, so who knows if he adds anything there. Is even in the Dorks leadership group? Would rather a 25 yo, otherwise develop Baker for the role. Spend our money elsewhere. He is a FA, so would cost us nothing in picks

More suitors, higher price!
-
Great news! Very happy with this.

The guy was taken pick 50 ish. Complete punt this deep. Has probably outperformed. The big question really is ‘does his skill set improve our system, or work against it’? He gets absolutely derided here and elsewhere (often even called a spud) when he gets caught manning grass, getting worked out of a contest, or turned inside out at ground level. I think he has good disposal by foot. Probably good at taking the resting ruckman when forward, or acting as an outlet passer. May suit other systems better than ours, where we probably need another good intercept defender and someone that can play tall/small (perhaps why the club persist with Smith) to reinforce May and Lever. If we get a decent pick, then may be better for all if he plays elsewhere

If we want to play finals, gotta learn to throw and get away with it.
-
If he goes the spoil, will his punch be ham fisted?
-
At those prices we don’t need him

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
buck_nekkid replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
We only would go after Brown if we think TMac as a forward is a bust. If he is a bust, no one else will take him. We will then be stuck with all or a decent part of TMAcs contract plus brown’s. Anyone hearing anything about TMAc, beyond the Basic rumours (didn’t crack the team so will want out)? -
If there are real suitors, then even if he wants to stay it is in his interest to let his manager field offers. Melbourne can match if they choose, he can take less and stay if he chooses, or he can take the best offer and run. He has all the power, and I imagine his manager will be chasing all offers so as it furthers his position. Will probably not announce anything until this has all had a chance to play out. Nice if he has already signed, but why hold back the announcement unless it is ‘pending other offers’?

Article on AFL.com says third rounder. Would rather keep him, unless we have massive salary cap issues.
-
It was what was mooted would be needed to buy him away from Melbourne. Seems big coin. What he is actually on might be less...

Improvement in the list: Petty, Nieshke, Jordan all come on. First year players get better. Second stringers either step up to the role or step off. Bennell to owe us 50K in effort to deliver his talent to the game. If KK is right, he is our other winger (I doubt this, I think he wont play another game). Improvement in the game Lots of tweaks by goody to the game style, so time can only help cement roles. Improvement in the skills and role playing: Better coaching of the basics in context. Guys need to have deep trust that as they play their roles, others will too. When it their turn to go, they just go. At the moment there is too much fumbling and almost second guessing, like there is no trust who has to go when. New assistant coach roster Greater consistency Time, trust and effort in preparation. Mental side as much as physical

I think this was single event. If they had average speeds of 34km/h plus then they would have top speeds off the charts! The reported stat was top measured speed - for many teams a single player had 2 or 3 top speed events for the team over the year, although we had 5 distinct fastest events/players.

Agree with decision making speed. Instead of rushing and panicking, simply being fast is a different trait. I also wonder if most of these efforts were not ‘burning away from’ but closing speeds into tackles (AVB in particular).

I think the wing is all about endurance gut running, not just speed. The ability to not just be fast once, but to hold the width and continuously it in sprint efforts is what matters. Interesting that Langdon made such a difference to us as a winger yet he was not in the fast 5?

From AFL.com, here are our speedsters for 2020. Interstingly, many teams that we think are fast are significantly slower than us if you compare results. It is not speed of player, but speed of ball that counts! Would these have been your top 5? Top-five fastest players in 2020 Christian Salem, 34.8km/h v Sydney, round 15 Michael Hibberd, 34.6km/h v Collingwood, round 12 Aaron vandenBerg, 34.3km/h v Fremantle, round 16 Kysaiah Pickett , 34.2km/h v Brisbane, round 8 James Harmes, 33.9km/h v Collingwood, round 12 Fastest speeds clocked in a game in 2020 Christian Salem, 34.8km/h v Sydney, round 15 Michael Hibberd, 34.6km/h v Collingwood, round 12 Aaron vandenBerg, 34.3km/h v Fremantle, round 16 Kysaiah Pickett , 34.2km/h v Brisbane, round 8 James Harmes, 33.9km/h v Collingwood, round 12

Anyone else staggered that Rankine rated 4th in the rising star? Serong I get, Anderson and King also. Rankine is a no pressure one trick pony who kicked a few flashy goals. Will make good teams look better, but ‘rising star’?
-
Might there be a juicy first rounder we could upgrade our second rounder to ??

I’m not sure I could handle a team with so many cartoon lookalikes. First beavis and butthead, now sideshow Bob? Need a lie down and a scotch.... -
Reported on AFL.com we would be open to enquiries re Braydon. lots of clubs looking for a ruckman. what is he worth? does it leave us without enough ruck depth?
-
Unless you are smiling like a coked up chipmunk every second you are on stage, such a photo is always possible,. If his future is in question, wouldn’t you wait to catch such a shot? Hope @Lord Nev is on the money and he is locked away with us.
-
As a hypothetical, who would have you selected instead of these 8?
-
It would not be a trade, all we would get is a free agent compo. maybe end of first round unless he goes on a ridiculous term and coin

No One has a crystal ball. The club has to consider the upside potential of who they contract, as well as decide if they are better than what else might be available. SOme are always going to do better than expected (Jason Taylor is Genius!) and some worse (Jason Taylor is a Bust!). Simply put, there is always going to be a fringe of developing/potential players, many of whom come onto the list with later picks or ad DFA/SPP type arrangements. A lot of luck goes into this whole process, and you really cant cut 8 from the list and not replace them with nothing - gotta always look to improve the list. If you dont have 8 high picks, then it makes no sense to cut 8 low cost fringe dwellers and replace them with...8 low cost fringe dwellers. would suggest from your list Baker and Lockhart are definite improvers, ANB still good value and Joel smith a mystery. Plenty to like in Chandler as well. Not a bad strike rate from the human lucky dip that is drafting.
