Eddie McGuire Steps Down Effective Immediately
Eddie should have handled things better. He confused his role as club president with ‘personality’. He has overseen much success in his time at Collingwood, but his media efforts (for someone trained as a journalist) were appalling. He obviously doesn’t understand the role of professional chairperson (as opposed to media spokesperson that he seems to take up). As chairman, his comments were so poorly articulated. What he thought he was communicating and what he actually communicated were vastly different. He showed that he is tone deaf to what is happening and therefore not the right person to lead the deep cultural change required. Gotta go. As a personality, Eddie polarises people. He has been a bogan playing to the MMM/footy show crowd and they love him. All of his poor comments re race have added up. Eddie, this was not about you, but about CFC. Making it about you was where you stuffed this up. That alone should cost you the presidency.

2021 Injury List
Ben Brown will be available soon after the season starts, so not that problematic. Bad luck to the kid, who seemed to have been developing into that second forward (AKA Darling role) across this pre-season behind Brown. I would like to see how Petty and TMac stand up in the roles, and Dogga to play his part. Probably opens up a range of options further up the field as maybe Rosman gets a wing as TMAc heads forward? Most teams are 1 or 2 injuries to key players away from trouble. I dont think these are ‘key players’ and we can cover them based upon our approach. More worried if we lost May / Lever / Trac / Oliver to be honest.

The Paddy McCartin Thread
Nah, lets just go with Goodie’s ‘smalls’ forward line idea that worked so well at the beginning of last year.....

Kane Cornes Concerns About Dees in 2021
Should he also be worried about: Richmond = a Hard Wick in a young marketer? hawtorn = a Paton of dik Piks and a Scully issue? Pies- its black and white, but Eddie forgot this in his memo Adelaide = that camp Dogs = Dunkley will bomb on them weagles - closed borders impact coke supplies st Kilda- geary busted leg freo = no hogan gws - hogan swans- Buddy trouble Not too many teams without trouble, hey Cornes-holer? headline should be Dees troubled by caned corns: toughest preseason yet!

Behind the Draft 2020
Shows how the AFL dragged it out. Submitted Bowey and Laurie at the same time, then it was all strung out.

AFL & ASADA to share Essendon drug saga documents
Go get em Bruce. I hope this leaves you with egg on your face and deepens the pain and suffering of all involved. If it means Hird never coaches again, then I will by him an ice cream!

TRAINING: Wednesday 3rd February 2021
At least we seem to be training to respond to/ take advantage of the new rule. I felt 666 caught us out.

Note the new rule: May has to ‘stand’ the mark with no lateral or advancing movements.

2021 Injury List
Kicks 6 in a quarter in a practice hit out. In full training, not in rehab - for the whole preseason so far Swelling detected in knee No rushed for scans, but scheduled 48 hours later (Perhaps when acute phase of swelling has concluded) The sky is not falling, in my humble view. Suggest this is to make decisions regarding load and management rather than ‘season ending’.

Review Finds Collingwood Guilty of Systemic Racism
An atrocious response. Completely tone deaf, and is an astounding real-time demonstration of the problem that they have. No apology, ownership, contrition at all. Trying to essentially say ‘it’s an industry problem and we should get special marks for noticing it first’ is a disgraceful cop out. When the report says individuals have been harmed, this response is morally, ethically and socially unacceptable. Mrs Nekkid said “in the TV reports they didnt even interview a non Anglo player” - i had to let Mrs B down gently that Collingwood have none of these at the moment. (But maybe some of them like chinese food?). Imagine if Nev had gone there - would have been wheeled out as the token indigenous player to carry the can. Thank god he stayed, he deserves much better than that. Eddie is posturing for Eddie. He is doing great harm to CFC.

TRAINING: Wednesday 27th January 2021
This sounds like positive forward thinking - perhaps what was missing with the 666 change. Using speed to run off players on the mark and getting quick inboard chains could really open up the attacking 50. On this basis, Hunt is the fast distributor off hb, Kozzie rolls up to the centre from F50. We also have to be smart and be able to defend this as well - our quick players have to ensure the roll off / hand off / 45 degree outlet of the opposition is shut down and players one kick down dont lose their opponents. The idea of slowing the game and flooding back was a key part of the swans game plan - they might struggle if this rule opens things up. Glad we are working on something to do about it.

Marty Hore replacement/backline depth.
Key backs: May, Tomlinson, Lever, Hibbard, Smith Running backs: Lockhart, Hunt, JJ, Nieshke, (Nev) Additional talls: TMac, Petty, Potentially Brown Think we have depth, perhaps no back-up to lever role is the only true hole. I would say if we needed a replacement, it would be for an intercept defender as back up.

Fantasy Points tell a story
On AFL.com, they are dissecting ‘fantasy’ markets for each team. Personally, I’m not into all of that fantasy stuff, but the article mentioned that apart from our top 3 (who are league leaders), the rest drop away fast in terms of fantasy points performances. We apparently have the same number of players who average rank under 75 (whatever that means) as North Melbourne. This tells me that there is significant upside for our ‘next tier’ players to consistently play to a higher standard. If fantasy points mean anything (and they don’t, really do they?), it shows we too often leave it to too few to do too much. How do others interpret this?

The five players you want to have an impact in 2021
Brown - he kicks bags we are difficult to beat. Brayshaw - becomes the elite inside mid, working with Clayton in the middle and sending Viney to HF. Kossie- showed glimpses, could be a terror for opposition teams if he gets his radar right, tackles like a beast and runs like a demented squirrel. Jacko - An elite big man that plays like he has the ball on a string? Mark of the year. Impossible matchup. Bradtke- need to know if he will make it or not. Does he step up to a level that suggests he gets onto the list, or is he done? Important for our post max planning, which is not so far away

TRAINING: Monday 11th January 2021
I appreciate the pics, even if we don’t have the reports of intrepid d’landers to know how the boys are going. It would be great to know some info on style changes, positional shifts, rehab group, how fringe guys are doing. I would also love to hear how the coaches are doing. but alas, all remains behind locked fences for now....

Wow, TMac looks like he has trimmed down heaps! Trac looks rolls Royce and Max looks lean. These galleries are all we are going to get I reckon. Williams looks like someone pinched his lunch!

Our game plan
The game plan has to be built around the players and their capabilities and strengths. We have suffered too much from seagull football (all midfielders getting drawn into contests like it is a bag of hot chips) and red mist (get ball, get rid of ball any way that I can). Our game plan has to be fluid and respond to where we are at in the game - we have to smart enough to turn up the gas or to choke the opposition. Knowing when to go fast or go slow is what we lacked. When we just banged our heads doing the same stuff all the time, people here complained about no ‘plan B’. Our game plan needs to be focused around how we can best move the ball and score. We have failed to do that effectively over the last two seasons.

Jonathan Brown to take Sam Weideman under his wing
1. A lot of ego involved I would think. If Weid comes on Brown looks brilliant. Brown is media not coaching, so it can boost his profile if it goes well. 2. He has been developed and coached. 2018 no one would have thought this was needed. Now, something different might make an impact. Sometimes going too early with this stuff can confuse a player. Now without a specific full forward as coach, this is a cheap way to get good ideas into his head, give him a confidante. He also has the experience of Ben Brown to work with, too.

2021 Full Fixture
None in the first block, but lots of FTA. We are also the home team for both of our blockbusters, too. Not such a bad fixture, so far!
