  1. Agree. The price would have to be right for MFC to entertain it. If it happens, I want MFC to play super hard ball.
  2. He was clear it was for job security. Like we got Lewis by offering 3 when Hawks offered 1. Suspect about the same
  3. What?? SO how will they trade for Dean? A future pick? A player swap? There is quite a breeze of change on the list - Although apart from Dean and the retirements, all are VFL standard.
  4. Didn’t he speak to us, not the other way around? I like how the club doesnt leak. They plan and act. They leave all of us (and the media) to guess. It would not surprise me if we are not into May at all. I could see Collingwood needing to replace Dunn, especially if Moore is lured to Swans. Hold on tight - I think it is going to be very interesting.
  5. Not convinced. WOuld not want too pay too much for him.
  6. If Hogan goes, he will be a very important addition
  7. I think his field kicking is some of the best going around. He has a few staggers at set shots, but watching him deliver on the move to another player is different. I really rate this part of his game. In a way, he could be a bigger version of Petracca for us. Shifting him to HB could be an interesting idea, or using his power, marking and aerobic capacity on the wing (a great marking target as well) could be another option. Personally I see him as the roaming CHF type who would be damned hard to match up on, with Weids and TMac deep.
  8. When we win the middle, JL can get position and set up behind the ball. When we lose the middle, it comes in fast and he gets caught out. Makes him look super or a dud. my biggest disappointment was the indiscretions and poor leadership demonstrated. His choices under pressure were also not great, but he was not alone on that front. Salem May be his natural replacement as half back distributor.
  9. North might be clearing the decks for some big spending. Preuss May be squeezed out - a mid level player they can manage without, and making salary cap room on the way through. dont let the rookie list be a judge of where he is now. Rucks develop later, so rookie-ing them is actually good policy unless they are bone fide top shelf.
  10. I love the drool he knocked out of him!
  11. Goodwin seems big on ‘systems’. He coaches primarily through setting systems and backing his players to deliver it. Seems like he holds his nerve and maintains a ‘system’ in each game. He will shuffled players around to maintain the system for that game. That’s my read, anyway. I wonder when he would throw a system out and in game (perhaps at a quarter or half time break) change up what we are doing?? So far, he has been relentless at hanging on to a system. I think the way we have based our game on contested ball and hard ball wins allows each game to have a ‘system’ of play based on this. Our fundamentals set the stage for the in game strategy. The EF seemed like the system worked, so no need to change. The real coaching masterstroke was the way we destroyed the 3 monkeys. We didn’t have a plan for Kelly, and he was perhaps the one that got away. Our defensive system and offensive system looked good, too (although inaccuracy was a sign of rushing and pressure, rather than system failure).
  12. Just watched the replay. There was a lot to like, but I reckon that there is a lot of stuff that can be ‘cleaned up’ to make us even better. Absolutely loved the attack on the contest. When we were smashing in, and looking to move the ball with speed, we looked like world beaters. There were moments in the forward 50 where a fraction more composure would have translated into goals. The marking of TMac an Weids was a highlight, as was Max’s ability to get back or forward to impact contests. Special mention to Lewis and Salem. Critical in our win. Against Hawks we need to stop outside spread and uncontested marks. Do that, and I beleive they will have little answer to us. IF we allow them uncontested possessions we put ourselves at risk. The game style on Friday night will hold us in good stead. We need to take our chances and take the game on from first bounce to last siren.
  13. Ok. Strong coffee and a few panadol to kick off the morning after. Flickering Awesome! Some observations: Dangerfield is a top footballer. He was dangerous all night, but I loved how he was smashed by Weids in the tackle on the wing, and when he went forward he was owned like a prison [censored] by Jetta. Brilliant. Not a backward step was taken. Rioli has on his wristband ‘run and chase’. Our boys dont need wristbands, ferocity and tackle was in their souls. Petracca very fumbly. However, when I watch the replay, I bet he did a bit of good, as well. Almost full time on ground for him, Frost and OMac. We may have played the ‘dream team’ midfield, but I reckon you just saw the changing of the guard. I hate Chris Scott. But I admire him a fraction more after that presser. I hate mid strength beer. So does the old duck in front of me who got a beer shower when Jones nailed that goal. Apologies were not gratefully accepted... I didn’t know that taking a slash on some random person’s rosebush at about 1:30 in the morning tunelessly whistling “it a grand old flag” for the thousandth time could bring a bloke such pleasure. I thought we would win by 25, we could have won by 60. Onward and upward, demons!
  14. Bradtke played junior footy, then focused on Petraccaball. I think this is different to Cox. More like other cat B rookies like Joel Smith perhaps?
  15. Perhaps he has heard of the legendary egg and bacon rolls? we need back up to max. Can see flip and king being moved on, which leaves a gap. I would think he will go elsewhere, and we will target a ‘nearly there’ ruckman, and develop Bradke. i can’t see Oscar being moved on, unless there is something massive afoot. He has developed into an outstanding defender, and unless May is on the way, it should not happen.
  16. Big thanks and admiration to Bernie Vince. Well done on a great career, and bleeding Red and Blue. Always one of the family now.
  17. Thought he did well today. Not only the clunked marks, but the contests, tackles and efforts.
  18. Goody gave a hint at the start of the year when he tried weid, Hogan and TMAc up front. Weid needed more development, so wasn’t ready. Imagine these three, all with good tanks, roaming from the wings forward, rotating one or two out in the 50, with the other being the hit up mark. Having 3 strong contesting players blocking kickout channels, and taking it in turns to rest Gawny in the ruck? Making teams have to cover a range of options, not just triple teaming Paul every time he is in the forward line. Pup tent in trousers territory, that.
  19. Given where our list is at, one or two 'A graders' shy of where we want to be, and knowing: We have seen considerable development in a number of players this year like Harmes, Salem etc. Spargo and Fritsch have had immediate impact Oscar Baker is developing at Casey, and could be an outside ball hero for us with the right development. We have some structural holes (back up ruck) that are screaming out for attention - will Bradtke be this?? How far away?? We have some players with large unfulfilled potential (Trac for example, Getting Viney on the park, Getting more from Hogan, etc etc) A few players are probably ready to be retired, or to shift back to Casey type roles Gaff looks like a good get, but do we want to join the bargain shoppers on this one? Somehow I doubt it. We make a reasonable offer regardless what North offer and stick to it. Our big get was Jake Lever last year. I don't know who else we would want that is available, and unless we are going to 'wiggle someone loose', we may have to give up more than we want to so that we can get what we want.
  20. Nah, Jesse is a keeper. He was waddling like a duck trying to warm up to come back on at one stage yesterday, and looked like spent a fair bit of time on the pine. Hope he gets back to some fitness and form. If we traded players based on yesterday's performance, there would not be enough teams to trade with.
  21. You raise an interesting point, Mr T. How many weeks does he have to get before it is seen as a satisfactory outcome for society and the game? If it is less, it invites external interference including legal action. The Tribunal have to get this number right. It has to are into account that this was an 18 year old kid and the sever damage that was caused by the action. It also needs to set a precedent to stop it happening again. Also, Nisbett is caught on his own desire to be a media [censored].
  22. So, given all of that, do we still want him?
  23. A terrible situation. My thoughts are with them.
  24. Questions that should have been asked at the presser: if there was a lack of defensive effort, why did you not change this up during the game? You know, the quarter and half time breaks might be good for that, right? what was your message to Petty after the match? Did you apologise for selecting him before he was ready? when did you decide to start your best forward on the wing, and push the other key forward so far from goal he needs a myki card? Did you learn anything when you put Hogan deep forward and he kicked 3 goals? if inside 50s are such a problem, why don’t you fix it?

Usual process- a board sub committee involving board members and external specialists define the role need, then identify candidates. They propose preferred candidate(s) to the board. Board as a whole decides. My assumption is a process like this was followed. the current CEO has no role in the process, unless he is invited onto the sub committee. There is so much p!ss and wind in Caro’s article. For a CEO to stay in the one job for 11 years is remarkable. Usual tenure is 3-5. Perhaps he has the ideal skill-set for the next phase of our organisation. All the rest is froth and bubbles. I assume appropriate due diligence was followed. After that, asking every toothless idiot and their dog for an opinion is a waste of time and effort. Good luck to Pert in his new role.
