We have to win this one, so it makes it hard to make the deep cuts that would teach a few that if they want a spot, they have to do better. Preuss - couldn’t tap to advantage against a midfielder. WTF? 16 cm advantage and half of his hits went to doggies on the outside. If Max is available, he comes in. Sparrow - busted wing. You would think this is the opportunity to get Harmes into this role and put Rivers back. Hannan - a half forward with no pressure. At least Jones would have done more. maybe this is what gives JJ his chance? Or do they just roll in Jones if he pulls up OK? A few need a kick in the trousers. Kozzie for his tackling style (pushing kickers forward giving downfield frees), Spargo (get involved), the midfield (sort it out!) TMAC (mark it, son!), Frittata (goal kicking). Put the acid on them to play the game on its system, not think they can cruise. Saints would have watched that and be drawing up plans already

Thanks, Rusty. You know the sort of day it was when May, Lever and Tommo all are near the top of the pops.

We lost the game because our defensive system was not followed. I hate it when I see the dees jogging after the contest. It is my number one indicator that we are going to lose. With no pressure at half forward, any entry that went in to the 50 at 40-50m out was just waltzed out, switched and put back into the dogs 50 for a shot. The lack of pressure from the midfield and the half forwards was pathetic. The dogs would pressure us and spread from contests and we would invariably have a skill error and they would have options moving into space. The back 6 had a hell of a day, as ther was no defensive support up the ground to allow them to get into the right positions. When the switch happened, it happened fast and this gave them all the space they needed. Did we get ahead of ourselves? Did the conditions have an effect on our disposal more than we thought (it did on some of our kicks at goal). A weak defensive effort by a team that looked like it was ahead of itself. Wanted a shoot-out and needed to stick to its knitting.

What a stinker! They waltzed away from half back, we jogged around the park. Backline were superb, Kudos to Weideman and Fritsch in the f50. Beaten comprehensively. No system to stop them, poor skills (maybe the conditions) and wilted completely under pressure. Really disappointing across the board, with only a few who can hold their head up. Kozzie has some spark, but lots of flaws (pushes in the back too much). COuldnt get near it with any value today. They need another kick up the bum. This measures us as a mid table also-ran team.

Being smashed in the middle. They just walk out with it. Fix this and they will struggle to keep up. May has Been brilliant

I hope he is that excited, but that sounds like it needs appropriate consent....

What they're saying down at Barkly Street
buck_nekkid replied to Queanbeyan Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
They rate themselves, don’t they? since we run a zone defense with May closer to goal and Lever next out, I dint think it is as simple as who takes who. Bruce is a big sook. If we keep him quiet early he will stay that way. They bat one deeper in the midfield? As I understand it, you only have a fixed number there at centre bounces... anyhoo, let’s see how it pans out. Anyone remember when we shellacked them at the Western oval to make the finals? -
Three things will see us win: Our defensive Setup and willingness to run both ways. Closing off their ability to move it with speed from the contest will be critical in this. Inside mids setting up correctly. Not getting sucked into contests and breaking out of contest zones so we don’t do the work inside and get pillaged outside. kicking efficiency and marking. Given the windy conditions forecast, this might be the most important thing. Manage our tempo and control the footy and I think the dogs can’t get near us. dees by 26 points

Tom Lynch Incident (incl. Dimma vs The Ox)
buck_nekkid replied to buck_nekkid's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dimma is a goose. He is an angry little twerp. He has needed some pretty high quality people around him to keep him in check, but you can’t hide your basic nature for ever. Suggesting you like your key forward to ‘push the line’ is stupid. Have you ever seen a team throw their arms in the air for frees as badly as the Tigers forward line? (Except Geelong) . Riewoldt looks like he’s going to cry every time he misses out on a free. This now invites defences to really go after these nufties. Hard-wit is also essentially baiting the umpires. Should be some defences that take the invitation to play these fecal stains at their own game.... -
Might be thinking of confirmation bias, availability heuristic or duration neglect. If you get a red car, all of a sudden you see all of the red cars. Might also be a case of MFCSS.

Nice work. Can have disagreements over the odd position in the list, but not with the effort you put in to do this. Cheers!

So Lynch punches his opponent in the stomach off the ball, allowing him to break on to the lead, mark and goal. He cops two cheap fines. Max gets assaulted off the ball. When are the AFL going to get real? This is blatant cheating - stopping a player fairly getting to the contest. It can change matches and all they do is hand down a piddling fine? It brings the game into disrepute.

Father Son picks in normal draft with discounts as part of the tradition of the game.

Think they should have an academy run by the AFL. Then have an NGA draft.

I wonder how much ‘off the ball’ actions us fans don’t see really impact matches. What should we look for? -
What is our current draft hand in this year’s draft? I seem to recall no first, and hawks second rounder, and about 20 4th rounders?
-
They have NFI. A team needs depth to be successful. Especially through the eh midfield and at least one high quality backup to the key posts. All of those trades would be simply ridiculous unless they delivered better against our needs

What they're saying down at Lulie Street
buck_nekkid replied to Queanbeyan Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Especially the special characters! -
I just walked in to the Saints v Bum holes. Ess kicked the ball back and forth like they were protecting a lead. I was surprised to see them 20 point behind half way through the third. They turned it over for a goal. Absolute rabble

I think they are different types of players, BBO. I could see Bedford replacing Kozzie, but it would probably be a high flanker that would have to go out for Bennell. Harley is high on ‘Silky acts’ and less on ‘pressure acts’. Kozzie slipped a lot in the conditions yesterday, but gee he gets to the right places a lot. When it all clicks... I would only rest him if it is on fitness grounds (he doesn’t come up).

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BRAYDON PREUSS
buck_nekkid replied to What's topic in Melbourne Demons
Almost spot on with your prediction! 77% -
Interesting to note the time on ground stats. Big Preuss had 77% TOG whereas Max has about 110% (really about 95%). I wondered where he had gone in the third, when it looked like TMac did almost all the rucking? Also Sparrow, Lockhart and Spargo also in the low 70s. From what I am reading, most collingwood fans were at about 75% time at ground as they were leaving at 3/4 time!

Makes it clear he had some things to work on to get back in the team. He has done so and it has fuelled the fires to be competitive and stay in the squad. Used May to help him get better (ie, develop, for those who say we don't develop players). Also great leadership shown by May and Lever to help him on his path. Now leading the marks inside 50/game stat. A nice article.

Sounds like a day well planned. I just hope no one spits on you as you walk through the car park singing “its a grand old flag” after the game!
