Dees vs Bulldogs This Week
No FTA coverage I’d reckon. Seven will be hips deep in the olympics. Doesn’t matter when it is played.

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Hawthorn
A look after a lie down and a cuppa. We have come from being very poor (2019), average (2020) to being a good team. We have not created a dynasty, or even understand what ruthless would look like. We are a team that has ‘something’ and is competitive (how big are our losses - we have not been smashed once this year). There are still massive holes in what we do, but when we do our basics well, we are a very good side. Not great. Not yet. Last night was particularly disappointing with the way we gave it up. A long way in front and we simply wilted. Very poor. But this is our first year being ‘up there’ - we still have a lot to learn. Take a look at the top 4 and we are surrounded by teams expected to be there and with histories of being there to draw on. There is the bones of something here. Last night was unacceptable as the ‘new Melbourne’, but I am not unhappy with where we have shifted to. Its the next bits that will win us a flag.

I cannot express my contempt strongly enough for that. Over 20 points up and put the cue in the rack. Ball watched. Outworked. Over-using. Outcoached. Poor attention to structures. Goodness, we snuck away with 2 points. feels in every way like a loss.

GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs Hawthorn
I think he plays the defensive midfield role and jv becomes more attacking. Sparrow would have been a possible choice with Jones out. Lets see what he brings.

Was it just me or was the umpiring completely biased to Geelong? The shockers did themselves no favours, but as a neutral observer the umpire bias was breathtaking

No, I thought there had perhaps been a stuff up and i was sent someone else’s. I have my barcodes saved in a word doc - just copy and paste into Ticketek each time I use them. I got my result and just moved on….

TICKETING: Rd 18 vs Hawthorn
I got sent 3 barcodes completely unrelated to my usual one. Ignored these, used my normal one, all good.

Mac Andrew
I watched the game (Metro v country) today. Mac did a few things when the ball came his way, but he seemed to jog in a headless chook kinda way between ‘moments’. His positioning and defensive efforts were average. Yep, he can jump, he took a couple of nice marks and did OK in the ruck, but im not sure he was top 20 looking at the game. Daicos was absolutely BOG and will go #1. A number of other players did very well and will push forward. I think only a team that has no immediate needs and a long time horizon could would punt on Mac Andrew at this stage.

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide
I dont think Jonas had a reasonable indication from the umpire. The late whistle on the play but the umpire left the door open for Jonas to think it was touched off the contest and he was free to tackle. It looked like he was committed to the tackle by the time the whistle blew. I am happy to be corrected, but if the roles were reversed I would not have been happy if our defender had not committed to the tackle when there was no whistle. Fair result IMV is just to pay the mark and get on with it. If the whistle was one second earlier, I would violently agree with you. It was poor by the umpire to be so slow on blowing the pea. He created the problem.

You could add Motlop incorrect disposal for wines goal, Mays holding the man (vs incorrect disposal), and Oliver being dumped without the ball for butter’s goal. For us, Kozzies 50 was dodgy.

They waited for Dixon to take his kick. Then they played it.

He went at about 44% disposal efficiency. Thought he was a liability in the first half, slightly better in the second. Harmes fumbled about everything!

TEAMS: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide
This. If I see the flaccid zone early I will spew. Port get beaten by pressure at the contest and fast ball movement. Stop their mark, halve groundball contests (or better) and be in their faces and we will win.

CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide
If we do, we are desperate. He works off hb running with Langdon well. When he can have a target ahead of him and involved in a chain he has been at his best. Forward we need marking, tackling, groundball less than running, so play him where he has the greatest chance to shine. Forward we should have other options like chandler if Kozzi needs a week. In game throw the magnets around. But I don’t think we are at that point yet of needing Hunt to change roles.

Yuk! Don’t play hunt forward!

Tracc miked up
He knows he has a mic on. He knows nuffies will pounce on anything. Why would he give them such an easy swing? Pretend you love it for the media spot and move on. Not well managed I reckon.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
Our best is good enough, but we haven’t seen it for quite a few weeks. Without the back 7, we are in real trouble. The mids were absolutely thrashed by the giants, and the run and carry was pressured and poor all day. The forward set-up is geared to work off the midfield pressure and overlap - when this is poor, the forward setup looks abysmal. We really are in a ‘slump’. We are playing like a mid-table team with not enough consistency across all aspects of our game. We have a target on us and are hunted, and i reckon most teams think they are a good chance to knock us off each week. Zero fear factor about the demons atm. Looks like Ben Brown crapped the bed in the 2’s - Weid did more to earn a place and should be considered for a run. We looked way too short in the forward half yesterday, and it looked like they had no confidence kicking to contests, just bombed it to rebounding oppo players. Having a team defence is OK, but we have to score more than the opposition do. Our kicking for goal has been bad the last few weeks (TMac should have taken both shots as drop punts rather than those round the corner bangers - he didnt land one in warmup, so why think he would get them during the match?). Currently we are playing like a team that would be 5-8 on the ladder. If we don't see rapid improvement and consistent application over the next few weeks, that will be where we end up. We dont have the maturity yet to dominate at the top - i hope this little period kick starts some hunger and propels them to such potential.
