All good for mine. New kicks and a MFC red training tee on their way...
-
Perhaps start with feeling ashamed - when the chips were down, the Demons failed to deliver. It was in their own hands and they stuffed it up. They should be angry with their attitude and application. Hold each other to account for once. Then get over it and play like you want to be there.

Any news on Lockhart?

Good. The bath water tastes like cold fish soup. Nothing to drink here. No plaudits or posturing. I hope this means the boys are clear- it all comes down to what you do on the park.

Mark Maclure "Soft Culture" Comments

Kid is just back from his mum’s funeral. Think it showed care and consideration. He did not play in the game at Drivel stadium. -
Mark Maclure "Soft Culture" Comments
buck_nekkid replied to Half forward flank's topic in Melbourne Demons
Culture - Maclure’s knowledge of culture obviously comes from the swab they took from the end of his old fella. I dont want Essendon’s ‘win at all costs’ mantra and the culture it created - people will suffer a lifetime of harm because of this. I dont want collingwoods racist, elitist (disposalist) culture. Someone commented they saw Goody giving Kozzie a big hug after the Daw/Smith reveal. That is the behaviours that drive our culture. Get them to care about each other, give them the tools, and then demand they uphold the standards THEY choose. It does start and end with the group (by its definition, culture is a social construct), but I can see things that show me culture is being developed in a positive way. They are over-communicating on the gaps (the value of storytelling to culture development) and attempting to use external agents to enforce internal change. I have no problem with this. It takes but a moment to actually look and see the behaviours that define culture. I see MFC are not in a bad place, but have to now add the ‘edge’ of accountability to the picture to really use the culture as a tool to drive high performance. -
The game has changed again. The value of fast, accurate and high footy iq ‘quarterbacks’ off HB (short and Daniels as examples) is becoming apparent to set up overlap chains. Salem and Bowey work there for mine (more so than Hunt) with Kozzie pressing up to be the corridor speedster. This leaves Langdon as the preferred wing option on one side, and still a gap on the other. Rosman is a longer term possibility. Baker has shown flashes, but might need more time. It could also be TMac on rotation. At least we have one wing sorted. Wish R Flower at his peak could be slotted onto the other wing, or maybe S Stretch.

And a thousand bucks, some insight into AFL, and some bragging rights for his mates. was a strange call going so late...was it done as a ‘favour’ or did the kid win a raffle?

So beating the premiers is worth......

A few observations: Caleb Daniel played a quarterback role of HB in the first. I see Salem taking this role for us and was badly missed on the day. The midfield we used just kept rotating - apart from Harmes, most combos changed each bounce it seemed. Harmes did OK at extraction but the midfield group were thrashed. Trac didnt seem to spend too much time in there?? Or just unsighted?? Defensively we were rabble. Couldn’t stick a tackle (Jetta popping an arm out should not could as a tackle stat). We failed to close down their ball movement chains and create real contests. They smashed us when the ball was in dispute and seemed a class above in terms of ball handling and delivery right across the park. May and Lever. Would have been 100+ points without these 2. Razor Ray - hopefully better for the run. Umpiring was inconsistent and Ray likes the sound of his own voice. Never going to win the free kick counts trailing to contests and not really tackling. Jetta looks like to has passed him by. With Lockhart injured for the foreseeable future, we will need maybe Bowie to step up. Can see why Smith got added to the list. A few lost souls out there. Looking forward to the inclusion of many first choice players for round 1. Bullies were going for full dress rehearsal and not sure we were. Different standards, but definitely need to get in the habit of going hard regardless of the circumstance. THis shows a problem with the ‘mental stuff’ they have been harping on about. Forward line may take until round 7 or 8 to get it together. Just hope we can kick enough goals and defend better until that happens. Want to see how we go with a proper midfield in place.
-
Will be interested to see what happens. The result is only important if we win, otherwise: how is our ball movement and connection to our forwards can we defend a fast moving side like the bullies? how will the newbies go? no injuries do we have a recognisable game plan?
-
I think looking at the game styles the value of Ben Brown May be completely underestimated. If we get the ball movement right, he could have a significant year. If Mason Cox -Ucker and Cameron can get 3, then Sideshow would get plenty!

More like the Bruce- o - meter rankings. How spehhshallll they are. robbo seems to apply different metrics to different players- past, present and potential performance without any consistency. He is a [censored] anyway.

Do people really imagine Mark Williams drops a name and we simply drop everything and pick this kid up? I’m sure the recruiting team would then be heavily involved and due process followed. He may be one of a number of state level players in view, and perhaps seen as a Neita replacement opportunity? Expect Williams has a fairly good insight, but the club acted professionally. Invitation to train for one week has zero risk.

I hope he does well wherever he goes. Looked like a shoot out with poor pressure across the ground. Be interesting to see how either of these teams will use such tactics when 4 points is on the line. Oscar had a number of small cameos that suited such an event. Pressure was not his friend. With all the casualties at Ikon park it may be enough to get him an insurance type role.

I honestly can’t say that as a rusted on member my life has been enhanced by MFC’s digital presence. If I look at numbers of new members, it is not a positive metric either. I would hope a shift in personnel offers opportunities to really take this from ‘digital y2k’ to modern omni channel marketing and communication.
-
Is two goals from 5 disposals enough to get him a gig? They have been well beaten, so how do we judge the performance?
-
Agree. 3 points most often goes to the pre-eminent midfielder of the winning side. If Trac wins the Charlie, it means we have probably won more games. Most likely is finals if he scoops it

There is a lot in play to make such a move. As our home game, at the G, for the first time in 500 days there is a lot to give up if we shift. If they want to change it, then it must come with benefits to us. I have a schedule clash so would be happy to see it moved so I can attend, but understand the fear of being bent over again by the AFL as a bombers lackey because they want it. In the end, Ess and Haw might be bottom 4 sides. This could be an appalling spectacle. Neither have earned the right to demand anything - so what are they going to give up to get this to happen?

One of the better callers early, but got sucked into the modern commentator’s curse of trying to inject themselves into the call. Bruce was always great 3rd person commentating. Ch 7 lineup is a pox on proper descriptive commentary. The moments of our practice game when they were calling the game were far better than the blokey, self serving, nickname ridden dross served up by BT and others. A servant of the game, thanks Bruce. It was good until it got ‘speehhhshaaaallll’

It looks like Richmond are seeking a soccer style with regrouping across half back, shifting it then advancing the attack from there. We tried to take riskier options on the 45 and this got us unstuck early. Lever in particular turned it over on exit far too easily early, but cleaned it up later. Q2 the Richmond system got us and we didn’t execute. After half time, we ramped up our contests and managed to connect the run better. Think if we can get confidence, the game style can work with the pieces that we have. Jones showed class. Bit worried about Baker and Harmes based upon that performance. Would like to have seen what Weid and Sideshow would have added out there.

Dropped a sitter. Good work junior!

First off Hawks vs Doggies. ‘rebuild’ versus ‘contenders’ (apparently, according to AFL.com.au report). Hawks win in a last quarter comeback. Hartigan and Phillips as imports to Hawks said to go OK, and Stef Martin did OK teaming with Johnnie English. One 50m for manning the mark infringement (Bont).

I reckon this is brilliant and would buy a men’s xl if it was available? dees versions so much better than other clubs, in both AFL and AFLW

That’s why Browne reported a hammy!
