Reality irks you does it.. lol Open your eyes. Or drink up...the koolaid is free. If you don't think something is serious amiss well I can't but admire the cozy place you exist within. Of course i wan't Melb to win, to be successful; but we are struggling. We were struggling before Trac's unfortunate injury... and now we're between a rock and a hard place. That just is. I see no reason nor logic in sugar coating the predicament we're in.

The midfield numbers behind staggering drop-off
beelzebub replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The first game of 25 is this Sat night. We need to look at it as that and select accordingly. No silverware on offer ( to us ) this year. Play the kids... let them run...play with verve and flair. Worry about the scoreboard later. Lets get some synergy , some cohesion , ffs ...something positive happening and grow that Go Dees -
North were one dubious [censored] up from winning. North have been getting better. Their scoring but one indicator. We've been getting worse. We may get up by 20 but I wouldn't be relying on any laws of averages with us... Murphy's ?? Definitely Go Dees

We think similarly... I suspect the FD might give a wink and a nudge... the team.... yeah nah.. Not an ounce of niggle or mongrel apparently. Fuchsias. I actually find it a bit disturbing, embarassing. Kinda... you know who your mates are etc.... -

Just injuries ? Really .. Whilst i agree we've been somewhat cruelled it's a stretch to not acknowledge our gameplan. Some of our demise is self inflicted, some at the whim of gods. -

So there's a 100 things.... cos the Midfield is definitely one of them !! -
Agree... There's but one caveat; the AFL would have to care. I really don't think they do. An amazing number of"occurrences" have go in favour of a small notorious cabal of clubs. Ones with large membershios....and clout. I really need say no more Edit. I truly think the change has to be instigated by the Umps. They must be sick to death of being the brunt of criticisms regarding refereeing rules that are near impossible currently.

Well....he was the Smokie..... Might as well see what any can do... Some might surprise.... might 🤞

Not a pleasant read.... sadly hard to fault. We are what we are... Dee-cline: The midfield numbers behind staggering drop-off - https://www.afl.com.au/news/1150432

Last time i looked neither you nor I controlled such things. The game has evolved, its managenent has, the managing of involved groups...i.e players assc... coaches assc .. they have too. There already exists an umpires assc. The one constant about the AFL is it DOESNT stay the same.
-
Well done Sherlock ;) Its what i suggested from the Start. Maybe the Umpires should make a push for it. They ought to see themselves in a similar light to the players perhaps.. Paid professional participants. A not unwarranted position imo.
-
Accountability need not be fronting the media.... but fronting your boss.. i.e Review Panel. Like any work place there's evaluation. At the moment there are players getting a run that ought not be.... but cupbards ars bare etc... Same in umpiring.. Poor umpiring is effectively condoned. It shouldn't be and would not need to be if the "pool" was bigger and more incentivated to excel.
-
If the Umpires were a properly organised and professional outfit with clearer definition , remunerations and accountability there would be a decent interest. One aspect not considered , possibly, is as a proper organisation they might demand the game has clearer, less confusing and better refereed rules. You want us to do a job (properly ).....stop [censored] around with the game.

What do you mean IF ? Been there ;)

Well... certainly not the reality that is AFL footy. Things are what they are. The certainty that close games are oft decided by dubious ajudication is "take it to the bank" stuff. Anyone outside the game would be aghast...surely.
-
Youre kidding arent you.. There are times when howlers scream unfairness.. but tis all cool by you . Ars you employed by the AFL.. your rhetoric matches
-
No one expects a perfect game. There are decisiona which can be labeled line ball...and there are stuff ups. You wish to excuse Stuff Ups ?? Im interested.

Actually... given the circumstances... Yes. Just like any number of close games have been DECIDED ( effectively ) by Umpiring [censored] Ups . Many will say it shouldn't be reliant upon THAT decision but that's an erroneous argument imo.. All decisions should be right. That surely is the point of UMPIRING ? So it ought not matter whether 5 mins in 1st ...19 mins in 3rd or 32mins in last...they are all the same .......or ARE they. I suspect not. Whether North were tiring or not....totally irrelevant to that moment which should have been afforded a 'correct' decision. The decision was WRONG... the result a travesty.
