If Ben Brown doesnt play the rest of the year
george_on_the_outer replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Weideman was worse than I had thought before this game. He simply doesn't know how to play as a forward. All game he was trying to mark from behind! He is a supposedly a forward. He didn't lead a single time in this game, now because I suspect, he doesn't know how to, and it is hard to lead when you play behind the defender. It is even harder for the players up the field to kick it in, when you play behind all the time. If there is one thing BBrown can do it is lead ( and he can mark the ball as well) -
AFLW Off-season List changes
george_on_the_outer replied to Go the Biff's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Great for Eliza, and showing the benefit of the Casey alignment in the AFLW stream. We now have a number of senior players at Casey, creating a pathway for the younger ones. But importantly it enables us to keep them within our system getting the same message week to week throughout the whole year now with the new scheduling for 2022. -
Carlton just haven't learned what is wrong. They became the experts of "buying" the players they wanted, and it was actively promoted by their boards in the past, and the culture still exists today. Since the turn of the century they haven't cottoned on to the draft and development to improve the list, and then fill holes with the role type players that are missing. They didn't learn the lesson with Judd. One player, no matter how good will win you a Premiership, you need a team. Why would you pick up ( and pay huge salary) to WIlliams and Saad? They may look flashy, but they were not what Carlton needed. But it kept their fans and Board happy.....for the short term, as they have already found out. Cripps is already a shell of the player he once was. Walsh is first rate, but who else do they have to move the ball. McKay is a standout, and Weitering is as good as it gets for a defender. But as @mauriesyhas pointed out Murphy and Betts should have been told to hang up the boots. Now they have 2 players currently playing every week, who won't be there next year, so they will have even more holes to fill than this year.

Nathan Buckley Steps Down as Collingwood Coach
george_on_the_outer replied to roy11's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not only that but if he had stayed at Brisbane, they probably would have won more than 3 Premierships with him in the side. As an aside, he wouldn't have won a Brownlow either except for the stupid umpires who allocated the votes in our game against Sydney. They gave 3 votes to Michael O'loughlin who had kicked 4 goals( i think) but didn't play after 3/4 time with a hamstring injury. Goodes was easily best on ground that day, and he absolutely ripped us apart, but only got 2 votes!! Change those around to what they should have been, and Goodes would have won the Brownlow on his own......not having to share it with Buckley. -
WELCOME BACK TO DEMONLAND: TAYLA HARRIS
george_on_the_outer replied to Demonland's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Importantly we now have a true forward, with Cunningham announcing her retirement as well. We were desperate for someone to kick goals last year, and until they moved Daisy up forward we were struggling. Interesting though why she wanted out of Carlton, given the amount of money she was on there.....and they are not a basketcase like Geelong. -
Trouble is that you have to move Storm as well as Rebels, they both use the same field at the moment. Or move Victory and use the the soccer fields area. Or get approval to cut down some trees and expand the current Gosch's field.
-
...an announcement in coming months about a feasibility study...... So nothing concrete or new, and exactly what was said at the last AGM.
-
Our Premiership window is NOW. We don't need to keep gifting games to a FF who can't mark the ball or kick goals today.

Caroline Wilson - Where has she gone?
george_on_the_outer replied to Sir Why You Little's topic in Melbourne Demons
The biggest story in the past 100 years in the AFL ( the Essendon saga) was broken and reported on by John Pierik and Michael Gleeson at the Age. Caro was head of Age football reporting at the time, and didn't write a single line about it. Her source at the AFL was Demetriou and he was trying to push it under the carpet, so no mention from Caro. Journalist? No...... Pierik and Gleeson are journalists. -
TEAMS: Rd 11 vs Western Bulldogs
george_on_the_outer replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The only reason the axe wasn't swung this week ( as it should have been for a number of players) was that Casey played last Sunday. You can't take 5 day break people into the game against the top side on the ladder. -

Umps got it wrong - need a please explain
george_on_the_outer replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
The sooner the rule is changed to the same as used in the AFLW the better. A free is paid if the ball is handballed or kicked OOB ( last touch) between the 50m arcs. No more need to interpret. And like the AFLW, there is suddenly an inspiration for players to keep the ball in play, that doesn't exist in the mens game. -
Exactly. Even without a set play scenario trying to kick a goal, punching the ball toward goal would have created a scramble and fear in the Adelaide defenders. A rushed behind would have been nearly a certainty.

At least 30. I can remember Stuart Spencer telling everyone we would be setting up at Caulfield racecourse.

Is there something going on at AAMI to clear out the other tenants? https://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/home-of-matildas-to-be-in-melbourne-after-116m-government-backing-20210516-p57sb6.html "Construction on the $116 million Victorian Home of the Matildas will kick off in December, with the state-of-the-art facility at Latrobe University set to be completed in time for the national team to train there ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia. Rugby union will also be a beneficiary of the state and federal government largesse, with top-class facilities for that sport to develop its own State Rugby Union Centre also being built at the same facility." This following the announcement of facilities for Rugby League north of the city last week. If Rebels and Storm move their training from Gosch's, then a whole new area is available.
