Membership 2021
There were no digital membership cards. The plan was to issue your entry bar code before each round. COVID ruined that plan. I suggest getting the bar code number off the email the club would have sent you to gain access to tickets, through Ticketek. That might work?

The MelbourneFC.com.au Thread
They were the only club who initially didn't sign up to the AFL/Telstra deal. But now looking at their website https://www.essendonfc.com.au/...(I know I should get a warning for this) ...it is exactly the same format as the other clubs, indicating they have also signed up with the evil side..... Pity in a way, because when they ran their own show, it was light-years ahead in terms of presentation and accessibility. It had first rate graphics and they could put up what they liked, when they liked. But it probably cost a lot to run, and after the supplements saga, the money probably ran dry....including from sponsors who would have been willing to support it...

CHANGES: Rd 08 vs Sydney
The main change we don't want to see is Matthew Nicholls umpiring a Sydney game: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/cats-denied-by-umpires-contentious-call-20210501-p57o2r.html

Back to Back Blockbuster Friday Nights for the Dees
Unfortunately this type of fixturing ruins plans for interstate games. You don't know which day to travel and book tickets for. Worse case scenario is finishing up in Adelaide for a weekend! Good news to date is Collingwoods performance. With only 24K turning up to watch their game against the Suns, there is no way any broadcaster would want to be showing them at the moment.

The MelbourneFC.com.au Thread
That is the fundamental problem. All the clubs have to use the same layout, because of the contracts entered into by the AFL. I was told years ago, that Telstra determines what changes can be made to each site...e.g. only so many articles each week, any more and you have to pay them more. With 18 clubs putting in their requests, getting something up in a timely manner is problematic, as it depends on how many bodies Telstra supplies to do the jobs. So each club has to measure the worth of what they are trying to put on the site. Do we change a picture of a player, or save up our allocation for a more valuable article?

Training Ground?
Jolimont will and would never work. It is in a Public park. Goschs at least is not. The Jolimont proposal would have required levelling an area greater than the Great Pyramid in Egypt. It would not have been allowed a fence. The building for gym and admin would have had to be built over railway lines. And at the end of the day it would have been second rate, because there is not enough space for a facility which is the standard for today. Have a look what WCE, Hawthorn, Sydney, Essendon, Adelaide etc have both now and planned. And this is the big concern with Gosch's....it is limited in what can be done in the available space.

NON MFC: Rd 05 2021
The Saints may be pretenders.....but it is what Richmond did to them is the important take away. Good teams demolish those lesser teams. No just falling over the line, they put them away conclusively. That is the standard to which we have to aspire. Although Hawthorn have played Richmond, they were spanked by 5 goals....we should be doing the same to them if we are serious about season 2021.

Training Ground?
I know this has been done to death, but I could never understand why we have not been part of this discussion: https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/caulfield-racecourse-unveils-570m-sports-entertainment-precinct-plan-20210413-p57iu8.html As you can see from the artists impression, there are 2 AFL grounds pictured.

Ticketing for Rd 05 vs Hawthorn
Tried to get MCC tickets yesterday. Got to payment page and it said credit card blocked, contact supplier.....It isn't and it wasn't. So can't buy tickets. So head off to Ticketek sellers. One in Exhibition st says their website. Get there. It's closed. Off to Atheneum. Fortunately open. Told my problem is not uncommon, and they are only an agency, so nothing they can do. No-one answers the phones at Ticketek. Paid for ticket with same credit card......Ticket sent to phone digitally, straight away. Then it prints out at the sellers terminal as well to the surprise of the agent. Friend who had bought our tickets last week got multiple messages during the game with repeats of the tickets we had bought and used to get into the ground. Let's hope this covid restriction ends soon, so we don't have to keep interacting with these clowns.

The premiership formula
Exactly Onion.....it's not pedantic either. A player doesn't get to 150 games unless they are any good. A player doesn't get to 150 games unless they are 26-28 years of age. Games played and age are the outcomes, not the reason. Does anyone seriously think that 22 Shaun Burgoynes ( of today) in the side will gurarantee a premiership? He's just not as good today as once. But he is older and has played more games...... The more good players you have in the side, the more likely you are to win a premiership. Simples!

Tickets round 4
Have been trying to get a wheelchair seat for a Tridents member who is severley disabled i.e already has ticket 2nd level on the wing in that area. Application to Ticketek...no response for 2 1/2 days....finally they send one ( just one, he needs a companion seat as well) located bottom deck of Ponsford in GA!! In first game of season they didn't even reply to the request! Fortunately called the club, who arranged a wheelchair seat in the Tridents area. Fantastic effort by the Membership team, who have to cover for Ticketeks failures....again.

Eddie's Bold Plan for 20 Team Comp
Just what we need....another 2 teams who can't support themselves. $30M p.a. going to GWS, similar to GCS, with St.Kilda and North being held up by the AFL as well. With more teams on welfare, it just means less to be returned to grass roots levels, and the teams which are currently providing the income of the AFL.

Loan System for Players to Swap Clubs
How do you develop a young player in the game plans, tactics and developing relationships with team-mates and the club, when they are playing elsewhere? The whole reason for taking the Casey Scorpions under our wing was to ensure that our players were trained in the "Melbourne way" by Melbourne affiliated coaches, and playing in positions that suited their future roles at senior level. How would we feel when a "loaned" player is sent back onto the ground with a "niggle" which gets exacerbated and becomes more serious? Silly idea.

CHANGES: Rd 04 vs Geelong
Exactly. Geelong play "rope a dope" and kick it short until they can punch into forward line. They did this to us last year, and the year before. We can't afford to bring in a player like Melksham who hasn't shown any desire to run and tackle and put pressure on the opposition.
-
The premiership formula
No...Hawthorn 2008, the Baby Bombers in the 90's, even Brisbane in the early 2000's. All young teams but loaded with talent such that they were able to win multiple premierships in subsequent years. Hawthorn and Geelong should have won the past 5 premierships if age and games played was the criteria.
-
The premiership formula
This is one of the old furphy's using statistics to form a conclusion after the event. Players don't get to play 150 games unless they are any good. They don't get to be 26 and still in the system for the same reason. The reason teams win premierships is because they have a sizable group of good players. It's as simple as that.

Attendance
The low crowds are because of the way tickets are allocated under covid rules. 75% of the MCG is available, but not of the total seats. It is 75% of the MCC, 75% of AFL/Medallion club, 75% of reserved seats etc. So to use the AFL area at the MCG as an example ( I don't know its capacity but lets call it 20,000), that means 15K allocated. But there aren't 15,000 Richmond and Hawthorn AFL members. Let's be generous and say there are 10,000. That means 5,000 seats do not get sold, alongside the 5,000 unavailable....in that area alone. Now using our game when you put a side like Fremantle in the MCG. You would need nearly 15K Melbourne supporting AFL members to be there, just to fill up the allocation. At Marvel, the Medallion club ( only using a vague memory here) has 12,000 seats out of a total capacity of 50K. So only 9K can be sold. Not many fans can afford to buy one of those seats, and the same problem happens. So while we have AFL, MCC, Medallion club and reserved seating areas, we will continue to have unsold seats.( under the current method of allocating tickets). (...and reserved seating includes those areas of the ground that Ticketek/Ticketmaster allocate to themselves to sell at higher prices....it is why you can't find a GA ticket for your membership, but they will sell you one in their areas)
