This is the first time in living memory that we've had this problem. And yet, with GCS, we've got the longest injury list in the league. Bodes well. Thank you Paul Roos.

Interesting that everyone has focused on the blindingly obvious with Oxley taking uncontested marks in our forward 50, but no one has really focused on the Dees great work around the stoppages, which was partly due to our structures/set up (and partly due to the intensity displayed by Vince, Jones and Viney). Buckley said on AFL 360 that they were getting smashed in this area (a first for them this year) and they effectively had to change their game plan to something that didn't wish to play. Buckley was very complimentary of the Dees coaching in terms of our midfield set up and thought the use of the wingers at the stoppages was quite unique and effective. Silly mistakes, poor ball use and costly turnovers cost us this game.

The Rising Star Thread - Congratulations Jesse Hogan!
Ron Burgundy replied to Nascent's topic in Melbourne Demons
As soon as he was drafted, I predicted that this kid would Captain the club and that he would be our first 600 gamer. Now that I've actually seen him play, I feel I was quite conservative in my initial assessment. In short, he's just got it. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - ALEX NEAL-BULLEN

ANB looks like the type of midfielder that the Swans are adept at landing with later picks. Seems a safe bet that he'll make it. -
Jeff Garlett - "loving life and kicking goals at Melbourne..."

If he could kick straight, he'd have about 40. Already one of my favourite players. -
Delistings/trades at end of the season
Ron Burgundy replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Possibly the weirdest post I've ever read on this site. -
Brad Sewell and Shaun Burgoyne. That hurts. Still would've been carp though.

Where do I start?! Perhaps I'll just leave it to the fact that virtually all players and coaches I've heard speak of him rate him incredibly highly. He is competent, articulate and oozes class as a coach.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Ron Burgundy replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep - this will make us a top 4 team. Terlich hasn't even played a senior game this year, McKenzie has played one or two - but we've still been hammered by GWS, Sydney, Hawthorn and Port. Clearly fair to put the blame squarely at these players who've not even played in some of those games. -
I love Paul Roos.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Ron Burgundy replied to Northern Summer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Matt Jones is not the problem. He's a good depth player. Every club has them. We need more genuine stars in the midfield. Everyone here who goes about M Jones, Terlich, Bail, McKenzie needs to realise that these players are not taking much of the cap. It's the guys who are paid the big $$$ who need to be more accountable - because that money can and should be spent on quality players from other clubs who would deliver more. -
We also lack class. And these two blokes have class. Will be disappointed if either or both of them are dropped for the Queen's Birthday game. It's the clearances and work around the stoppages (incl tackling) that killed us on the weekend. Watts and Howe aren't exactly the main problem there.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
Ron Burgundy replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Matt Jones is a much better player than many here give him credit for. Relevantly, he also played very well last weekend - he effectively shut down Robert Murphy altogether. Not surprising at all that he kept his spot. I rate Newton though - disappointed he's not lining up against his old club. -
I love Jeff Garlett. Thank you Carlton.
-
Notwithstanding the comments above, I'd say he'd be lining up for us against the Bulldogs this weekend if he was still on our list.
-
Prestia would immediately and dramatically improve our midfield.
-
Absolutely agree. Given our 'outs' prior to the game, it was obvious that we were going to get belted by Hawthorn, particularly given their loss to GWS the week before. That said, the effort from our VFL standard team was unacceptable. We currently have too many key players out and not sufficient AFL standard depth to cover for them.

And that's with Jeffy kicking about as accurately as my Mum* from extremely gettable set shots. He should be leading the Coleman. * My Mum can't kick a football. At all.

At the hands of non Victorian teams? Yep, Freo and Sydney are ordinary. Who would've thought we could've fallen so far.

Even though I think jnrmac's initial post was very good and well reasoned, I hate this thread. We are extremely fortunate to have Paul Roos at this club. He is an excellent coach. In fact, he's even more than that.
-
I simply cannot believe that some people here are bagging Roos. I still can't believe that we were fortunate enough to land him as our senior coach. He is the sole reason we've actually been able to attract the decent senior players and coaches in the time he's been here.

Adelaide really know this stuff and it says to me there's a lot more upside to Toumpas than we've seen to date.
