I've heard Roos state many times that: - he loves players with clean hands; and - he hates players who fumble whom he calls 'coach killers' as they become turnover machines.

I reckon Matt Jones is okay. Not sure why posters keep wanting the club to pay out his contract. For a start, this should be an absolute last resort act, which should not be lightly entertained. It creates all sorts of list management issues, not to even touch upon the impact it can have upon a list culturally.

I hope the club gets the hardest, strongest, competitive beast at pick 7 ala Joel Selwood and Ollie Wines (who were both picked at 7). No project player stuff. Just a percentage play on the non negotiables.

Yep - question was essentially 'where's the next Vandenberg?' That said, Tom Mitchell racked up 50 plus one week in the NEAFL too, did he not? Might be hard to land him with a rookie pick though - but Josh Mahoney seems to be an adept trade negotiator these days.

Know of any players in the NEAFL who managed to pick up 50 plus possies week in, week out in 2015?

I really hope we have another good look at Moore. Fits the age bracket. Has skills. Hard body. Wanted to come to the Dees at the time he got drafted by Port. Pick him with, say, pick 160 in the national draft.

Terrific post. We clearly have a structured and defined plan now. Our recruiting/drafting clearly reflects this. And that's why we no longer have a scattergun approach to getting any and every player from another club who becomes available, much to the annoyance of several posters here. In a sense, I think we have much more of a whole of list plan these days, rather than get the best player we can at each pick/possible trade. We're also now well coached. There's a good development program in place. And we have a sound back office. With a good run injury wise, I reckon we might just scrape into the 8 next year.

From all reports, it seems Parish is locked in at 3. Essendon and GCS clearly hold the cards as to who will pick at 7. Hoping it'll be Curnow.

Despite all the talk of depth in next year's draft, other than if it's for trade value only, it's unlikely that the one player we'd get to pick from that draft would be massively better than Parish, Curnow or Francis. Further to this, the players we land with picks 3 and 7 will have an additional year in the system. And we'll be finals bound next year(?!) so our first round draft pick won't even be that high. So, in short, it's a no brainer that the club has done the deals that it has this year. A+.

It seems that Parish at 3 and Francis or Curnow at 7 would be a bloody good result for us. It's possible.

Typically you only have one first round pick in it (i.e. one player only) - so what's the big deal about depth next year if this year we have two top ten picks and the top ten this year is as good as any draft, even if beyond that it's a little more shallow. Don't think we're targeting the spoon next year either, so our picks this year are enviable.

I'd give Michie another year. Upgrading Harmes is a certainty. Surely.

Think we only outfoxed 16 other clubs. Suspect we were in the tent with GWS the entire time. Hence, the Bugg trade was the last to fall into place. Quality output MFC. So impressed. And I back our recruiting department to nail picks 3 and 7 too. How this club has changed. It's actually professional and competent now. We're Hawthorn circa 2006 now.

Killed it. This club has good DNA now.

Shawshank Redemption. Howe acted selfishly and we looked massively short changed. But Mahoney had other ideas and arrangements in play. That we now have picks 3, 7, Melksham, Kennedy and Bugg (all clearly needs-based targets) with the loss of just Howe and Toumpas shows that the club has executed this trade period perfectly and with much needed finesse and agility. A+. And, despite it not being obvious for much of the trade period, we were actually super active this year.

In retrospect, he should've been dragged to the bench, given the red jacket and immediately delisted following that incident.

Roos likes solid, if not remarkable, players. They tend to form part of a good team.

Assuming Frost is fit and is our next key back, I'd be interested to see Garland partner Hogan for a while. We'd have Dunn, Frost, T Mac as talls down back so we should have enough coverage down there.

I expect that to date the MFC internally would be slightly underwhelmed with this trade period. Howe clearly should've unlocked more trade value than we managed to get for him. Toumpas - well, we kind of gave him away, but I expect the deal we got for him was commensurate with his market value. Unfortunately.

Kennedy looks 15 years old. Not unhappy with this trade though - he looks okay. Can't get my head around the deal we did for Howe though.

I recall thinking in that game in which he injured himself earlier this year, geez this kid's a good, hard at it, young player. He's got bullets. Just needs a bit of luck with injuries.

Main concern for me this trade period is getting screwed around by Howe on the upgrade from GCS re: pick 6 to pick 3. Pick 3 would be handy on the back on picks 2&3 last year.
