Potential future at Melbourne University
Go the Biff replied to Axis of Bob's topic in Melbourne Demons
I do Col. Not just a billboard but an exclusive partnership with the airport so the likes of the Pies & Tiges don't go plastering their propaganda all over the place. Making Melbourne FC part of the Melbourne experience Getting into hotel rooms so that when visitors pick up those "things to do" brochures, MFC is all over it Tapping into real estate databases so that when someone moves here from interstate or overseas, the club sends them a "welcome to Melbourne - hope you love your new home" pack. Here's your free tickets to a MFC game. Again, forming exclusive partnerships with the major agencies so other clubs can't pinch our idea Bartlett's overall vision of making MFC part of the Melbourne experience is a great concept. But there are better ways to do it than having a presence in Collins St. Or Parkville -
Potential future at Melbourne University
Go the Biff replied to Axis of Bob's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agreed. Those domestic students that go to Melbourne Uni have long set their allegiance to a footy club. The vast majority of the internationals don't give a damn about footy and never will -
I had a Scragger fan near me who claimed it was a good decision because Bail "had prior opportunity". WTF ?

A point much missed

I thought Russian had a pretty handy game but you're right. There were a couple where he beat Minson & then palmed the ball straight to him. Why would you bother ?

Players to target at the end of the year
Go the Biff replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Some. Nate Jones for example was an inaccurate kick but his fundamental action was sound. Now he's pretty good. Don't think Green's one of them that you can fix. Happy to defer to our resident kicking afficianado Clint Bizket for his analysis. -
Players to target at the end of the year
Go the Biff replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
You want another player who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo ? He might get plenty of it but my mum's a better kick. -
That was entirely on Dunn. Watts was already headed for the bench with his back to play when Dunn played on from the kick in & booted it at Watts anyway. Dunn has been outstanding this year but he was deplorable today. That hot potato handball to an under pressure Grimes, failing to clear the zone by kicking long up the line, failing to either shepherd or run to space to provide an outlet. Plus he was extremely lucky not to be pinged for holding Crameri a few times. Horrid game. I am a huge Col Garland fan but he had a stinker. Footscray players must have been lining up to play on him as it was just about a garanteed goal. Not sure what to do with him but he is in terrible form. And he knows it. See his reaction post game. He looked as sad & lonely as a bastid on Father's Day Our midfield killed us. Too many blokes that don't really want the responsibility of presenting for the ball. Part of the reason Dunn & Frawley made errors was that no-one was working to give them something. Players just clump together & shuffle meaninglessly towards the nearest boundary. Nate Jones, Bernie Vince, Dom Tyson - all guilty today. And we missed Frawley up forward. At least he presents, even if he does get most of his possessions on the wing. We need a minimum three quality mids just to get close to having a decent midfield. That's not to deny we've improved significantly but we are still miles off the pace. We have one player in the team who gives us any outside run. Sadly that player is Matty Jones whose report card will always read A for Effort & E for Execution. While Watts made some characteristic one on one fails and some uncharacteristic kicking errors, he was the one player who when he got up into the midfield, looked like creating a passage of play that might see us score. I'm as disappointed in the team today as I have been all season. The Dogs were rip for the picking & our midfield sat back & decided someone else could do the work And Jihad Stadium is still a shitehole, albeit thankfully today, a shitehole with a roof

My kids asked if Dunstall barracked for Melbourne. I explained : Dunstall is Hawthorn Hawthorn = hates Essendon That said, Dunstall has consistently been one of the best players turned media performers I also told my kids he was an out & out champion. Damn that man could play

I think he is And I'd still rather have Shiel. Perfect addition to our midfield

Damian Barrett's anti MFC spin doctoring
Go the Biff replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Barrett briefly referred to this on one of the footy shows last week - that Roos could wander from struggling club to struggling club, fixing them up I doubt Roos is going anywhere If he doesn't coach us beyond 2016, I reckon he & Jackson will create a position for him where he still guides our fortunes Paul Roos - MFC Overlord ! -
I thought he was gorrrnnn. Preferred Bennell. But I did think if Nev was ever going to make it it would be as a small defender. Glad to see he's been given a chance there & been given a chance to settle into it His highlights tape when we recruited him remains a favourite. No high marks or freaky goals. Mainly Nev tackling people into the dirt. He just loves smacking into opposition players

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 12
Go the Biff replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Seconded for pretty much the same reasons. Cross unlucky -
After today, I'm pretty confident we can beat the red & black goat rooters next week We lacked run today but we also lacked space Not enough credit is being given on here to Collingwood's defensive intent and structures. They were outstanding
-
The thing I liked most about Bartlett's presidency was that he STFU and let Jackson & Roos get on with the job It's fine to aim high but he should have maintained the silence for a while yet Halfway through the season and it's clear that the team has improved. That's all though. We've achieved bugger all. We need a few more runs on the board before GB reveals his plans for world domination
-
OK. You can have Jimmy Magner. I hope the two of you will be very happy together Then you might stop bitchin' about Toumpas

Players to target at the end of the year
Go the Biff replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't forget we pinched Tom Gillies out from under their noses Weren't we clever ! -
That's a copout. It's got less to do with the name & more to do with how you manage it. I don't hear too many Hawk fans jumping up & down & screaming for their own "standalone" seconds team I believe that's correct. Casey was just about skint and couldn't afford to offer much, relying on the Gippsland fringe to bolster their playing stocks. For blokes who are not looking at the VFL as a pathway to AFL, there's significant competition from not only other VFL clubs but the next level down as well. Plenty of clubs in the Southern, Eastern, Northern (old Diamond Valley), EDFL and Western leagues have cash to lure players with. Not to mention some of the country leagues. It's an attractive secondary income stream but it only lasts for so long. If a club such as Noble Park for example offered better match payments than Casey, it's gotta be tempting You don't mind drawing the odd long bow do you !

I think there's an interview on the GWS website where he said he lived with Tom Scully. Remember thinking that might not do us any favours but if it's true that he was genuinely interested in us last year then all good. I would love to get this bloke. Was hoping like mad we could snaffle him last year although rapt with what we got instead. Love his acceleration, clean hands & willingness to run. A midfield based around he, Tyson & Viney.......................
-
Plus the likes of Monries, Gray & Westoff floating throught there. They have some goalkicking mids as well If they get running they can certainly get the scoreboard spinning
-
Yes he has although Brad Miller did Round 1. Round 6 Round 5 Round 4 Round 3 Round 2 Round 1 Courtesy MFC website. I find them informative & they give an indication of what players at Casey have to do to put themselves in the frame for senior selection It's info to the members & fans. We can go & watch the senior team play & see for ourselves how players are performing. Or see games replayed or live on TV. Obviously the club knows that only a small percentage of the fanbase attend Casey games. Those getting excited by Allison handing out whacks from Round 7 should maybe read a couple & get a broader appreciation of his reviews. Except rpc who will be upset that the whole list isn't covered
-
I don't but then I'm not viewing the Round 7 review in isolation

Players to target at the end of the year
Go the Biff replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
If you want to go window shopping, GWS Contract List 2015 is correct for Treloar. Along with Shiel, Patton and a fair few others -
To be fair Allison has been giving credit where credit is due. His appraisals appear measured & delivered in the context of how players performed according to the requirements the coaching group has placed on them. Blease for example has received favourable assessments in the last couple of weeks But jeez - they must have stunk up the house in the second half last week
