  1. Teofilo Stevenson is the bloke you're thinking of. Another Cuban, Felix Savon did the same thing in the 90's Stevenson carked it last year, ending any hopes of a matchup between he and George Foreman. Ol' George has had a crack at just about every other heavyweight of note
  2. Agreed. Jackson would have been heaving his guts out when he saw that. His tough job just got even tougher
  3. Disappointed about Taggart. I think he's got a bit to offer Would rather have retained him & kept Clisby on the rookie list
  4. WTF ? This post is all kinds of stupid. Try 35 & 51. And maybe do your own legwork rather than asking others to do it.
  5. Annually we all become drafting experts based on 2 minutes of video It's a bit like the Olympics where every 4 years we become expert judges in things like diving. No splash ..gotta be a 9.4 It's fun Sue, you should play as well
  6. Enjoyed that. And my two teenaged daughters are well impressed for other reasons.aside from his footy skills Marketing !
  7. That would be good. See if he can match Hassa Mann's achievements in the same number. No pressure !!
  8. KK's video was the most impressive I viewed. I particularly liked his intercept marking & his left foot is a gem. Hit targets both long & short. My question is where does he fit with MFC Loved everything about Freeman except his kicking. Even in the clear he was missing targets. But his attack on the ball & his speed is tantalising. I'd be interested to hear from someone who'd seen him play a bit whether his disposal efficiency is a concern Lennon was very impressive but again I wonder if he is a type we need immediately. Really liked his kicking & he seemed to have that little bit of time that good players have As I watched Sheed's video I began to picture him on the MCG in a Demon jumper, about to pump the ball inside 50. He to me looked like what we need right now. He looked equally at home receiving the ball through running to the right spot as he did going in & getting it. He's not Usain Bolt but he's quicker than I'd been led to believe. Based on the video (which I acknowledge is a poor means of assessment) that's my four candidates with Sheed slightly ahead in my preference. I would be happy with any of them though
  9. Thanks for the reply. I was wondering why you were keen. There are a lot of Adelaide mids I like. He's not one of them. A case of style over substance IMHO. I doubt anyone is going to take Dunn or Bail no matter how you dress the deal up. Happy to be proven wrong though.
  10. Surely McCartney is a must if we take Lennon with Pick 9
  11. A game I haven't played for a while but let's give it a go. B: Strauss Frawley Garland HB: Grimes McDonald Terlich C : Kent Viney Howe HF: Trengove Dawes Watts F: Hogan Clark Blease R : Jamar Jones Tyson I : Michie Vince Taggart Toumpas Emer : Evans, Dunn, Fitzpatrick To make meaningful progress, we need to not only profit from the current round of drafting & trading. We need some of our recent selections to develop as well. Which is why you'll see the likes of Blease, Strauss & Taggart in my team. The three of them have had little luck to date, particularly with injury but I think all three can play We aren't flush with small defenders. Strauss's defensive efforts improved last season. His right boot is a ripper & I'd like to see what he can do when kicking to a midfield who actually want the ball. I prefer him taking kick-in duties as well. Our fallback options are Clisby off the rookie list (no certainty), Jetta & Nicholson Blease - outside mid (winger for older blokes like me) with genuine speed, which we sadly lack & knows where the goals are. Likes kicking them too which is important in my book. Alternative is probably Evans or Barry but while I have hope for him, he's a while off. Taggert is another goal kicking mid who has developed into a really nice size as well. I was annoyed that he wasn't given AFL time towards the end of this year. Having pumped them up it's now more than likely they'll all be given the arse next week. Either trade or a DCM if uncontracted Back to my team. No room for Fitz. Clark, Watts, Hogan etc will all have to help out in the ruck. I want four mids on my bench. We lack pace badly which is another reason I've kept Blease in. I think Kent has more pace & upside than Matty Jones & is more dangerous around goal. With interchange caps on the horizon I see value in a number of mids in a three way rotation. On as small / deep forward, rotate in to the midfield, go flat stick and then rotate onto the bench. Rinse & repeat. Players like Kent, Blease, Tyson, Vince & to some extent Trengove have shown they can be handy near goals. Plus we don't have an out & out small forward so we are better off rotating mids there. When fit (& in form), Jamar is probably still our best first ruck. I'm looking forward to Gawn taking the spot away from him, through weight of performance though rather than opportunity created by injury. Garland, McDonald & Frawley are the cornerstones of our defence. Who plays where I think depends entirely on matchups so I've just left them in their usual spots. Grimes reading of the play, courage & intercept marking are best utilised off a half back flank. We have no Hodge. Grimes is the closest thing we have. If only he could kick like Hodge. The other back flank gave me trouble. I've given it to Terlich ahead of Dunn & Nicholson. If Pick 9 is a Dyson Heppel type then he will have a spot that his for the taking. Not that I think Terlich is hopeless - I'd like to see him work with a functional midfield but HBF is somewhere where a bit more class is required these days. Up forward I imagine there will be a bit of rotating going on between 3 players. Dawes is your hit-up CHF type. Clark notionally our FF and Hogan takes the "Jack Darling" role in his first season I've listed Trengove & Watts on the HFF but both will go into the midfield for significant periods of time. I'd like to see Watts as a 6'6" Ryan O'Keeffe type. That would take some stopping. Again if & when interchanges are heavily capped, coaches & fitness managers will be looking at loads & player will be spending time rotating between "High intensity running" and "lower intensity running" positions. No surprises in the midfield - except maybe Howe who many see purely as a forward but who I can see being developed into a Daisy Thomas type of marking running mid who can cause havoc going forward. Again, with rotations he would spend time deep forward. Two things stand out when I look at my starting 22 and the list of players left off. Firstly my team looks to have a lot fewer ball-burners than we sent out last year. Secondly, we need luck with injuries because there in not much in reserve. If you accept that at 25 Matty Jones has pretty much showed all he's got to offer, Dom Barry is the only "developing" player on our senior list today who is not a ruckman
  12. I don't care that his kicking is not pinpoint I don't care that his handballs are sometimes wide of the mark I do care that his hands are rubbish. Frequent fumbler He is Simon Godfrey Mk 2 And I understand that he gives his all, just like Godders did But in the positions they play, you need to be a one grab player. The kitchen's too hot to get a second chance at the ball.
  13. Demoneyes is right (given the number of posts made - some had to be). Tom has to improve his disposal. He's never been a brilliant kick but when you've won the ball and are charging out of our defence, your options are limited. And that's a product of our increasingly disfunctional midfield under Neeld. I'll be interested to see what his kicking (and Terlich's) are like when they are trying to hit up someone who's made position and want's the ball. In the meantime, Tommy should eat, drink, sleep with a Sherrin all through the off-season. He can already run like a Tanzanian postman. Time to address his weakness
  14. OK. Can we hang him because he's a simpering twit ? Edited to appease auto-censor
  15. I suspect he's referring to the national pastime of getting up with high hopes only to watch Greg Norman lose in the last round of another major
  16. That's how I recall Balme's tenure as well. He was cruelled by injury, not just for a few games but for seasons. I still can't quite wipe out the memory of a loss at Port Adelaide where we were so short of manpower that our "tall forwards" were The Wiz & Sean Charles.
  17. I understand your thirst for info but one of the best things about the club since Jackson came on board is that we no longer leak like a sieve
  18. The problem with that scenario is that you assume that Jamar has some trade value. I don't & I doubt other clubs would either. If you assess him from the end of his AA year you'd have to put him in the "injury prone & out of form" category. Much like Jolly. If GWS start sniffing around for an experienced ruckman, surely it will be Mumford But your starting point of trading Pick 2 for a good player & a good pick is the way to go if that pick lands on the table.
  19. Really ? He's had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus. Would he be any better than Jordie Mac in that role ?
  20. Nice theory but I'm none the wiser Rockliff - I have no idea The Swallow story I've only seen on this website....so I assume it's baseless Selwood - Troy Selwood said on radio this morning from his discussions with them, that both brothers are staying in Perth. Adam taking up an off field role Sloane - it's been said that his family were so dirty on us not drafting him as promised that they'd never have anything to do with MFC again. But that was on this website as well so could be as baseless as the Swallow story
