I believe that @old dee was guttered when he left Melbourne.

I would imagine the reason metres gained is so low is that most of his possessions were either a kick or a handball backwards or across the ground or a handball to a teammate running past. I'm guessing "metres gained" is only counted when the disposal sends the ball forwards (towards goal) or the player is running forwards with the footy.

Hewett's not the worst in that category, but he's right up (down?) there. FEWEST METRES GAINED BY PLAYERS WITH MORE THAN 25 DISPOSALS* Jaeger O’Meara - 25 disposals for -1m gained (Rd 23, 2017) Jack Macrae - 30 disposals for 1m gained (Rd 2, 2016) Cameron Guthrie - 33 disposals for 21m gained (Rd 22, 2014) Daniel Cross - 28 disposals for 22m gained (Rd 1, 2012) Matt Crouch - 25 disposals for 29m gained (Rd 5, 2016) George Hewett - 29 disposals for 30m gained (Rd 6, 2023)^

I think the only fair way to do it is to have every team play each other once and alternate the venue from year to year. However, I doubt the AFL would adopt this fair system as money is the key motivator. Forget integrity!

Apples and oranges. EPL consists of 20 teams and every team plays every other team twice (at home and away) over the course of a 38 game season.

I'm particularly interested to know if Oliver is out there.

Pikey actually played for four clubs - us, Fitzroy (swapped for Martin Seecamp), North and Brisbane. Just on Nathan Bassett - very good player, but didn't play a senior game with us due to injuries.

Jack Dyer is also purported to have have told his players at training to pair up in groups of three.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Demonstone replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
The sub-editors will have a field day if we draft him. -
Of interest (to me, anyway): - Ben Brown named so fit to play, but not selected in the Melbourne team - Kyah Farris-White selected to play against men after running around in the under 18 comp. - Woey back but no sign of Turner (K.) or Smith (J.) - Jimmy Munro still injured

Death Riding Fremantle 2023 - Feathered Cap Edition
Demonstone replied to adonski's topic in Melbourne Demons
A timely opinion piece about the practice of booing players at the football. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/footy-crowds-need-to-cut-down-on-the-boos-20230421-p5d2b7.html -
Ben Hart was only 17 when he debuted with Adelaide, so I don't reckon he could have been on our list before that.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Plenty of players have moved home for the same reasons. Unfortunately, that hasn't stopped some posters unfairly deriding him as a "mummy's boy". -
Are you sure about that, @Rod Grinter Riot Squad? Not getting him mixed up with Nathan Bassett?
-
Neither of these played for another VFL team after leaving Melbourne, which I understood to be the qualifier for @Monbon's team.
-
As much as I've always liked seeing a team named in position, they may as well just post the selected squad in alphabetical or jumper number order these days.
-
It's April 2023 and some people still think that the team will line up as announced on Thursday night.
-
What does that mean?
-
I assume that by attempting to handball, Ladhams was deemed to have played on. Correct decision IMO.
-
Let's keep both. That bathwater is for the drinking, not the throwing out.
-
Good game to win from here.
-
I'm guessing the rationale is replacing a forward with another forward rather than a mid.
-
Essendon haven't beaten us in Adelaide for over 150 years. We've got this.

If Brown is out, I would have thought that Jordon would be the logical inclusion.
