  1. My mix-up with the Turners should help point you in the right direction. I can also reveal a clue that the answer to this brainteaser does relate to Melbourne.
  2. I was thinking of Scott Turner, but I see he never actually played a senior game with us despite running out for our Under 19s and playing in an exhibition match in Toronto before ending up at Richmond. Steve Turner would also work for this quiz, even though he'd be named out of position at CHB.
  3. Haven't heard from Mazer as yet. Just the two incorrect suggestions at this stage.
  4. There has been a tongue-in-cheek suggestion that this is the most Anglo/Irish team ever but we can safely rule that idea out, despite the proliferation of Irish sounding names listed. A second poster has proposed that they all share surnames with singers but, although possibly true, alas that is not the answer to this particular quiz. The answer also has nothing to do with the placement of vowels in their names. The fourth answer is in but is also incorrect - they are not all brand names.
  5. It's quiet around here. A little too quiet. Time for the return of the quiz. This one is another team consisting of past (mainly) and present (two only) Melbourne players. Your task, as always, is to find the factor that links them. Answers in PM please to make this diversion last a little longer. Incorrect answers will be posted to help others. The prizes will be of equal value to those awarded in previous quizzes. B: Nathan Brown Jamie Shanahan Alan Johnson H/B: Joel Smith Scott Turner Paul O'Brien C: Michael O'Sullivan Brian Wilson Michael Evans H/F: David Williams Brad Miller Lynden Dunn F: Peter Moore Chris Dawes Russell Robertson R: Jeff White Clayton Oliver Jordan Lewis I/C: Cameron Clayton Henry Coles James Cook Troy Davis
  6. Never let it be said that you can't stroke my ego like that. New one about to be posted.
  7. That player's identity has now been revealed.
  8. The first group that Paul Kelly was in the late 70s was an outfit called The High Rise Bombers. It might be time to get the band back together again.
  9. I'm pretty sure the criterion in those days was the father playing 50 games at the club, which was later increased to 100 by the League. Jonathon Brown was recruited as a father-son by Brisbane in 1999 despite his father Brian having played only 51 games for Fitzroy. Under those rules, Kavanagh couldn't have been taken as a father-son by Melbourne and it would appear that neither Carlton nor North were interested in him despite him being eligible under the 50 game rule.
  10. Just replace the trident with the Cup!
  11. Ron Barassi Sr - Ron Barassi Jr George Bickford - Stephen Bickford Lloyd Burgmann - Shane Burgmann Des Campbell - Bradley Campbell Bert Chadwick - Bob Chadwick Denis Clark - Michael Clark Jack Collins - Geoff Collins, Mike Collins Edward Cordner - Don Cordner, Denis Cordner, Ted Cordner, John Cordner Ted Cordner - David Cordner Brent Crosswell - Tom Kavanagh Roy Dowsing - Rob Dowsing Adrian Dullard - Tony Dullard Richie Emselle - Ken Emselle Jack Foster - Rob Foster Alan Johnson - Chris Johnson Robert C Johnson - Robert B Johnson John Lord Sr. - John Lord Jr. Herb Matthews - Norm Matthews Peter Maynard - Corey Maynard Bob McKenzie - Robert McKenzie Tom McLean - Glenn McLean Graham Molloy - Glenn Molloy Norm Smith - Peter Smith Shaun Smith - Joel Smith Steven Stretch - Billy Stretch Tony Sullivan - Chris Sullivan Todd Viney - Jack Viney
  12. Michael Clark, who only played the one game, is the son of Denis. However, I'm not sure he was taken as a father-son. edit: A quick check of Demonwiki reveals no fewer than 31 Melbourne players whose fathers also played for the mighty Demons.
  13. He's shaping up as our next Jordan, Bradshaw or Trengrove. There's no "n" in Wilmot.
  14. Unfortunately for Riv the first, he left Melbourne at the end of 2012 and thus missed Geelong's flags.
  15. Australia Post is entirely unpredictable at the moment. I bought an item from a Sydney eBay seller a week ago and received the parcel in regional Victoria today.
  16. Sounds like the Hawthorn members said far Kew.
  17. Yes, mate. None of it interests me in the slightest.
  18. I strongly suspect that I'm the only Demonlander who hasn't spent a brass razoo on merchandise or memorabilia and have no intention of doing so. I watched the game and will always have that experience and the joyous memory of our triumph. Should that memory ever need refreshing, there is no shortage of replays and highlights on the internet to watch.
  19. I've still got an item of clothing from 2000 that fits me perfectly. It's a very nice scarf, too.
  20. Surely his nickname is "Motorhead".
  21. Yes, it looks very healthy. He's even got some growing in the gutter!
  22. Given that he served as Premier of Tasmania, you'd have to say so. However, Brian Dixon served 18 years in the Victorian Government after being elected in 1964 while still playing for Melbourne. I can't imagine that happening these days! Dixon was probably best remembered for introducing the "Life. Be In It." campaign while he was the Minister for Youth, Sport & Recreation.
  23. Geez, keep your shirt on bub. 1. I didn't report it, SEN did. I just posted a link to their article. 2. The facts are as stated in the SEN article. No "blasphemy" was committed. 3. I know. I never criticised the club. I think you might need to go a have a Bex and a nice lie-down before you blow a gasket.
