Tim May not the correct answer for Q10. You're not going to sleep tonight until this is resolved, are ya!

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Nice thinking mo, but incorrect in this instance. I can reveal that Q1 is very sneaky and the commentator in question isn't involved in cricket. The clue for Q4 refers to both the player's Christian name and surname.

That leaves just three to solve, namely Questions 1, 4 and 10 plus the bonus musical teaser. To get this thing over and done with, I'll now waive the two correct answer limit and make it a free for all.

No point keeping you in suspense. Q6 is Starc (Star = sparkling plus C = hundred in Roman numerals) Q7 is Waugh (Not Victoria = WA plus disgusting = "ugh") Both of these were solved by WCW who is currently hounding me for further clues to Q10. I'll provide others with the same clue. Demonstone

You may send me your questions on the back of an unmarked $50 bill. I'm thinking it may be time to reveal both the correct answers that WCW has in the bank. Any objections?

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
That doesn't make it any clearer! Solving cryptics requires a warped mind. Yours is clearly not warped enough!

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Not Katich and I'm not sure how you made that connection.

I don't think Trumper played in the last 50 years deever! Not the correct answer I'm afraid.

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
I've now received two PMs with the correct answer to Q5 and have relented to congratulate WCW and mo64 for working out that the answer is Andy Bichel, being an anagram of "I belch" when brought up. Mazer also sent me a correct answer, perhaps unaware that he still had the right to post in this thread. He doesn't any more after cracking Q8 by answering Colin "Funky" Miller, or one who grinds away all day in his mill. WCW also got Q6 (edit: also Q7) correct but I'll save those reveals for later. Still a few to go. Have at it Demonlanders!

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
No he didn't. Ferguson is incorrect! Only two correct answers per player at this stage, mo.

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Massie not correct, I'm sorry Mazer. WCW has sent me a PM with two correct answers but is not allowed to post them here according to the draconian rules of this brainteaser. Do other players think I should make an exception and let her show off on this occasion?

Lyon is also correct m064 and that's your quota of correct answers. Well played!

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
You can PM me with your suggestions if you like WCW. (World Cryptic Wizard)

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Mallett is correct. All other suggestions are not. Only player eliminated for being too good thus far is WCW.

Don't think he played in the past 50 years, Mr. Rackham. You will also need to show your reasoning for any other responses.

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Walker and Nash incorrect. Don't forget the clues are cryptic, not straightforward. Armstrong also incorrect although your logic is impeccable. Langer is spot on! "Fishy" hints at an anagram, in this case angler/Langer. "Goes the hook" complements the angler part of the clue and also applies to a cricket shot.

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Well done WCW, Lawson is the correct answer for the reasons you outlined.
-
Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Bollinger incorrect. Fire away with your next answer! Don't worry about ol' Mazer. The limit of two correct answers per customer also applies to him.

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Carey not the answer but I see where you're coming from. Reminder to all posters to explain your reasoning.

Demonstone's Crafty Christmas Cricket Cryptic
Redpath is correct. Communist = red plus track = path. That was the easy one!

* Disclaimer: I know this is the main footy forum, but I'm not sure that many posters look at the other forums. Well, here we are Demonlanders. We've survived another Christmas Day and recovered (to some extent) from the self-inflicted food coma. Those of us not at the MCG are blobbing on the couch watching the Boxing Day Test Match on TV and thinking about ham and/or turkey sandwiches for lunch. What better time to run the cricket quiz I threatened some time back? Below is a set of cryptic clues which represent a team of Australian Test Cricketers (including 12th man) from the past 50 years. They are not in batting order because I don't want to give too much away. Some clues are trickier than others. There is also a supplementary cricket flavoured musical teaser for those who are gluttons for punishment. Please post your answers in this thread rather than sending me a PM, but I would ask that people restrict themselves to two (2) correct answers to let others have a go. I would also prefer if posters could outline the reasoning behind their answers, but I will explain the solutions if necessary. 1. Commentator's leg. LAWSON 2. Not only a cricketer. LYON 3. Hard hitter. MALLETT 4. One-stroke engine. CUMMINS 5. I belch when his name is brought up. BICHEL 6. Made a sparkling hundred. STARC 7. Not from Victoria. Disgusting!! WAUGH 8. Grinds away all day. MILLER 9. Fishy angler went the hook. LANGER 10. Mick wouldn't select him. MOSS 11. Went down the Communist track. REDPATH 12. They're the rules, young man. LAWSON BONUS CRICKET RELATED MUSICAL QUESTION: Bros sound like they take the opportunity to make music. GREGORIAN CHANTS
