  1. On the title page it says "Written by Jack Dyer and Brian Hansen". I would wager that Jack did very little, if any, of the actual writing! The book, which was published in 1968 by Southdown Press, cost $1.25 for the soft cover edition. Apart from Mopsy Fraser, there are also chapters on Ron Barassi, John Coleman, Murray Weideman, Carl Ditterich, Ted Whitten, Bob Skilton, John Peck and Norm Smith, five of whom have a past or present connection to Melbourne. To call all these players "Wild Men" is drawing the longest of bows.
  2. Was it this book? I read it and re-read it avidly as a kid and still have it sitting in my footy book collection.
  3. Beauty, as ever, is in the eye of the beer holder.
  4. 90% of that distance covered is in his runups when kicking for goal.
  5. Demon player: "Hey umpire, can I say that was a shizenhousen decision?" Umpire: "No, it'll be a 50 metre penalty if you say that". Demon player: "Am I allowed to think it was a shizenhousen decision?" Umpire: "You can think whatever you like". Demon player: "I think that was a shizenhousen decision".
  6. Dear Mister Moderator, Can you please do something about these excruciating anagrams, especially repeats like "shamer". Yours etc, E. Marsh
  7. Steven May has been fined $2000 by the MRP for tripping Bobby Hill.
  8. It wasn't a free kick. The ball bounced off Hogan's head which made it look like Petty had hit him.
  9. If he is embarrassed by it, would that journalist be his shamer? I do love a good anagram!
  10. Does anybody know the purpose of all this ball-spinning we're seeing these days from many players?
  11. You would hope it's just the wind, but so far it's just been a scrappy, error-ridden shocking spectacle of a game.
  12. Stellar work as usual, Webber. I love the look of the jumper without all the sponsors' logos and AFL insignia.
  13. These were our best players according to 'The Age'. Looks like we have another midfield god to accompany Gawn, Petracca and Oliver. BEST Melbourne: Petracca, May, Oliver, Pickett, Fritsch, Gawn, Hermes.
  14. Aloha Max and Goody!
  15. Yes, Kynan is Doggy's son and odds on to be nicknamed "Puppy" if we draft him.
  16. Tony Anderson began the 1969 season wearing the number 11, but due to injury he retired after the first three games. Wells, who had worn number 50 in the reserves, was given the number 11 when he made his debut in round 18 and kicked four goals in what was a boilover win over top of the ladder Carlton.
  17. I noticed that he has a run up like Buddy Franklin when kicking for goal. They call it "Noah's Arc". sorry
  18. They belted Geelong seconds last night, almost doubling their score.
  19. That-dirty-rotten-little-stager-Weightman has ELEVEN.
  20. This John Snow knew quite a lot about turf.
  21. I always thought that Tom Waits should release an album called "For No One".
  22. Opinions may differ. Strongly.
  23. Very nice! That steel guitar has done many, many miles by the look of it. That first song reminds me a lot of John Hiatt's "Your Dad Did" off his excellent "Bring The Family" album. Did you ever get into Seasick Steve? I bought a "Best Of" CD but he seems to lack something I can't quite define.
