I like it: good from a prospective win / loss point of view; solid from a financial perspective; our sponsors should be very satisfied with the exposure. We are alive and well again after a long malaise, and seemingly have growing relevance in the eyes of the AFL and the media. 2017 could / should be a huge year for our Club .......... we must make it happen!.

2016 Player Review - # 28 Oscar McDonald
Deeoldfart replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Transitioned quickly from being an 'L plater' to 'P plater' over the course of the year, and surprised many (most?) of us in the process. Will still be wearing Ps for the next year or two as he gains experience and his body fills out, but I have high hopes that he will become a very good KPD. Great work by OMac and the development team now in place at our Club. -
I'd like to free up a bit of their cap space by taking Vardy off their hands, in exchange for a late pick that they won't use ..................... (pipedream!)

My thoughts exactly Red ........ and I'd be surprised if they're not already on the job.

2016 Player Review - # 22 Viv Michie (rookie list)
Deeoldfart replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree with all of that Angry ......... and isn't it brilliant that we can now seriously talk about our likely discards going to 'weaker teams' for more opportunity? -
We pioneered the 'Irish experiment' back in the 1980s. This sentimental oldfart would love to see it continue with Mark O'Connor at Melbourne, where Jimmy and Sean would be sure to keep a watchful eye over his development.

Frosty's speed for a bloke of his size is a great asset .......... both in getting to and creating contests and breaking away from them. This attribute suits our game style to a tee. He still has work to do on his skills (marking and kicking in particular), but he's only played a handfull of games, so has a bit of time on his side. He improved quickly after finding his 'home' in defense, and I'm very bullish about his future.

Col was a stalwart during our 'tough times', but unfortunately he doesn't have some of the key the attributes demanded by the evolving game style at our Club. He is very much a 'stop / start' player to my way of thinking, and as a consequence, I suspect he will always be a weak link in our ball movement. Further, I don't see any significant points of difference in his game (eg. pace or marking strength) which might offset this weakness. Sadly, Casey or another club's list might be his future, I suspect

A beautiful and inspirational story. The 'sentimental old fool' in me says that I hope we somehow manage to draft Oliver, but I know that's very, very unlikely. Good luck to him wherever he ends up, which will hopefully be a Victorian club where he can continue to be a 'rock' of support for his mum.

Billy is diligent, hard working, extremely reliable and has good skills, His development in the short time he has been on our list has been as good as any, and he definitely sits comfortably as one of our 'young guns' (albeit that his name rarely comes up when footy discussions turn to the Dees ............ outside these pages of course!). A gem, who will get the recognition that he deserves over what i expect to be a long career in our colours.

2016 Player Review - # 13 Clayton Oliver
Deeoldfart replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
An excellent debut season from Clarry, which showcased his boundless potential. If he maintains the work ethic and determination to succeed that he showed to get drafted, I can see no reason why he won't 'fast track' to A Grade status within a few years. He certainly has the tools in his kit-bag. -
I'm not overly fussed by Bris. getting a priority pick, but I detest the double standards involved by our governing body. Shameful!
-
A big 'no' from me. Doesn't seem to understand the "non negotiables" of playing at the highest level.

I remember 'Tangles' as a good Demon footballer, an excellent Aussie cricketer and a fun-loving speaker and author. Crammed a lot into a relatively short life, and gave a lot of sports lovers a lot of enjoyment along the way. I'm saddened to hear of his passing. RIP Maxy.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Deeoldfart replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
The suggestion that there will be an announcement next week (ie. after the GF), also adds a smidgen of credibility ..... but probably just clutching at straws. -
VFL GRAND FINAL - CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS
Deeoldfart replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very, very disappointing from Casey and Melbourne perspective. The more experienced Melbourne players in particular, were disappointing, with only Oliver and perhaps Weideman (glimpses only), showing that they might have what it takes at AFL level. -
Alternately, they could clone Jessie. That way we get to keep him while at the same time trading him to Freo for Fyfe, Neale and a first rounder, and importantly, close the bloody 'Panic Room' thread. Win, win, win!
-
High risk in terms of his body, but potentially high reward at low cost. At somewhere near his best Vardy is be exactly what we need, and I'd be very happy to take the punt, subject to an optimistic medical outlook.

Number 13 in solid gold would be good!
-
Absolutely! I've taken great pleasure in watching Nasher grow from a baby-faced little girl, to become a couple of mighty Demons hugging each-other. The transformation has been akin to the Melbourne Footy Club under Paul Roos.
-
One of our 'young guns' who will be part of the next Demon Dynasty.

Also wrong!. 'twas actually the 'Red & Bluerprint' -
I just wish last year's R/S winner would say the same thing!

I loved the interview, and was struck by Roosy's sincerity throughout. As a success deprived Melbourne supporter, a couple of snippets filled me with excitement, confidence and expectation for the next few years. Specifically: Roosy's absolute confidence in Goody to take over the reins; his observation that we now have "great" people in all areas of the Club; his comment that we are now set up for a "sustained period of success" .......... if not next year, then 95% certain we will be playing finals the year after. Thanks Roosy, and all the best for the future. We are indebted to you!

C'mon Abe, you've been around footy long enough to know it's not baffling at all ............ it's the Richmond way!
