  1. I know where you are coming from McQ. Certainly he hasn't taken the 'next step' that many of us were predicting in 2016. Perhaps it's that he's not suited to the HBF role, but I have a suspicion that maybe his thyroid condition was slowly creeping up on him well before he recognised it, and before its return was formally diagnosed.
  2. Just listened / watched the weekly episode of 'Roos Views'. At one point Roosy said that getting our boys 'up' for recent games has been mostly "player driven". He heaped praise on Jonesy and the rest of the leaders for their work on this front. Just love the words "player driven". That's what happens at in successful teams. Dees by 8 to 10 goals on the back of that, I reckon.
  3. Some fabulous memories in that footage. I can almost smell the liniment.
  4. I'm not too disappointed with this given the way our back half has matured / developed as a unit since the speculation on Hurley commenced. Hurley would be good, but so will the cap space that his non-recruitment will free up.
  5. Corey Maynard obviously has some excellent AFL attributes, having been chased by at least four other clubs. His preferred destination is the Dees, which is testament to our Club and where we are now seen to be heading. I doubt he would have chosen us 3 or 4 years ago, despite the family connection. Seems like very astute use of the Category B rookie arrangement to me. Love you Dees!
  6. I remember it like yesterday. The crowd was definitely hushed, but for the muted sobs (literally) of many of the Melbourne faithful around me. The anguish and disbelief on their faces (as shown on the front and back pages of the daily newspapers) is etched permanently into my red & blue heart. But this is 2016, and over the next few years we are due to dim the 'hurt' of some of those memories!
  7. Nightmare's suggestion that Tim English plays like Josh Fraser is a turn-off for me (lol), as is his skinny frame. I'd prefer to pick up a mature age, mobile ruckman to bringing in another 'project' ruckman at this stage
  8. Great start, but lost composure in the third. Steadied and then controlled the last to come away with a solid win in hostile territory. That's what good teams do. We are now seeing the emergence of a good team, which has what it takes to become very good in the next year or two. It's a great feeling to be emerging from the football wilderness. Makes me so proud to be a Melbourne supporter!
  9. Someone will have to play bloody well to deny Hunty a rising Star nomination this week.
  10. 6. Gawn 5. Tyson 4. Hunt 3. Jetta 2. Jones 1. Vince
  11. I don't have any inside knowledge, but I'm sure he would be on Richmond's radar.
  12. Tom, in particular, would have been in high demand outside the MFC, but he chose to remain a Demon. That, in itself, is a huge tick for our Club, and a sign of where he thinks we are heading.
  13. Sorry mate, not a skier. Just doing some renovations on a fly fishing cabin we have up there. It was however, a very nice bottle of red that I shared with myself on Saturday night .......... mind you, a rough 'cleanskin' would have tasted like nectar after that win!
  14. I was in a remote area of the Snowy Mts. on the weekend. Watched the match on Fox with only myself for company, made enough noise to be heard back in the 'burbs, joined the boys in an off-key rendition of the Grand Old Flag, then re-watched the game, glass in hand, through sometimes teary eyes. Brilliant day ..... a turning point and a window into the future of our great Club(?) Sunday morning was a 36 km drive to the nearest town for 'phone / internet coverage, logged into Demonland, and confirmed that it wasn't a dream. The sheer joy expressed in this thread was palpable. Returned home yesterday to find the thread had more than doubled in size. Thanks for sharing the joy Demonlanders! We've earned this, and as we all know, there's lots more to come.
  15. 6. Gawn 5. Viney 4. Watts 3. Tyson 2. Jones 1. T. Mac Unlucky: the other 16.
  16. Just a gut feeling I have, but Jack V, Gus, Clarrie, Trac, Billy and Hunty seem like the sort of kids that crave success together more than they crave big bucks. I hope so anyway, 'cos that's the type of attitude that the ultimate success is built on.
  17. Suddenly it becomes a really intriguing match for me ....... an early glimpse into an exciting future perhaps!
  18. Harrowing story, and far more than anyone should have to endure. Great that Febes is getting his life back together.
  19. Thanks Ricky. I've moved from being a bit 'uneasy' to petrified now that you've drawn those connections! (lol)
  20. Couldn't agree more Hemmingway, I'm also 'edgy' about the transition to Goodwin. Probably just 'jumping at shadows' (otherwise known as MFCSS), but so much progress has been made over the Roos era, it's hard for me not to be a bit uneasy about what the next generation might bring. We need a seamless transition to Goodwin, with most, if not all of the current support staff remaining in place, and preferably with Roosy still having some sort of involvement over the next year or two. On a positive note, Roosy seems to have the utmost confidence in Goodwin, and from what I've heard and read, the players love working for Goody. PJ's ongoing oversight also gives me some confidence.
