MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 20
Deeoldfart replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just a gut feeling I have, but Jack V, Gus, Clarrie, Trac, Billy and Hunty seem like the sort of kids that crave success together more than they crave big bucks. I hope so anyway, 'cos that's the type of attitude that the ultimate success is built on. -
If we beat Hawthorn, I will.....

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 20
Deeoldfart replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Suddenly it becomes a really intriguing match for me ....... an early glimpse into an exciting future perhaps! -
Harrowing story, and far more than anyone should have to endure. Great that Febes is getting his life back together.

Thanks Ricky. I've moved from being a bit 'uneasy' to petrified now that you've drawn those connections! (lol)

Couldn't agree more Hemmingway, I'm also 'edgy' about the transition to Goodwin. Probably just 'jumping at shadows' (otherwise known as MFCSS), but so much progress has been made over the Roos era, it's hard for me not to be a bit uneasy about what the next generation might bring. We need a seamless transition to Goodwin, with most, if not all of the current support staff remaining in place, and preferably with Roosy still having some sort of involvement over the next year or two. On a positive note, Roosy seems to have the utmost confidence in Goodwin, and from what I've heard and read, the players love working for Goody. PJ's ongoing oversight also gives me some confidence.

Agree DD. We fell over the line and some Demonlanders are heading for the bottle. I dread to think what their 'escape' might have been if if the final score had been reversed.
-
That's the worst four points I've witnessed in 60+ years. Following Melbourne is such a soul destroying pastime. I almost wish I could give them up!
-
I'm generally not the greatest fan of Roosy's pressers, but I reckon he's spot on with this one: Rd 18: Paul Roos post-match Yeah, I'm well aware that lots won't agree, but so be it.

Maybe I was a bit quick to vent my spleen, but a 50% distribution of the 50/50s in the last quarter also gets us over the line.

Robbed by those f'wits in yellow!

Rookie spot only I reckon.

The Jesse Hogan Panic Room - all contract talk here
Deeoldfart replied to Grapeviney's topic in Melbourne Demons
For me the most significant quote from Jesse is: “The factors are probably where the club is heading, that’s the main one,” Hogan said -
....... become a 'believer' for (probably) the 10th time this season.

We must have been within talking distance that day PD.

I'm old enough and lucky enough to have been around for our Flags through the the 'golden era' of the 1950s and 1960s, and for me its hard to go past Froggy's goal in 1964 as my second favourite Demon moment. All seemed lost after Gabbo's run and goal, and moments later we had our noses back in front. The tension was unbelievable, and when the siren sounded a 'valve' was released and the Demon crowd erupted. Premierships never tasted sweeter. We had stolen a Flag from the 'filth' and it went some way towards dulling the darkest memories of 1958. The joy and satisfaction were enormous, but back then, finals and premierships seemed to come easy for the mighty Demons. I had to wait 23 years before my most cherished Demon moment of all, and I see from the posts above that I share it with quite a few Demonlanders. Western Oval, final round of 1987, shouting my lungs out for the Dees while trying to pick up a score from the Cats / Hawks game from 'trannies' in the crowd. When we finally made it, in Robbie's last year, the euphoria was palpable ..... there wasn't a dry Demon eye in the crowd around me. Just keying these few words is giving me goose bumps. I wanna experience moments like these again please, and I don't have another 23 years to spare!

Surely Hunt Deserves a Rising Star Nomination
Deeoldfart replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Interesting to note that back in March / April Demonland conducted a ballot under the thread title "Who's our best chance to win the Rising Star in 2016". The contenders were listed as Petracca, Harmes, Oliver, O.Mac, Weideman and 'other', with no specific reference to Hunty. The outcome of the ballot was Oliver by a whisker from Petracca and then daylight the rest. I voted Oliver but did make the following observation about Hunty: http://demonland.com/forums/topic/39932-whos-our-best-chance-to-win-the-rising-star-in-2016/?do=findComment&comment=1246205. Just wanted to make the point that Hunty has 'come from the clouds' in half a season to enter our calculations as a Rising Star contender. Great effort by the young man and by our Footy Club in seeing the signs and persevering. -
Jack Watts signs for three years (21/7/16)
Deeoldfart replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I love Jack's loyalty. I hope its rewarded with a drink from a Premiership Cup. -
I recall that a fellow Demonlander (can't recall who) reported from our pre-season camp in Qld. that Hunty did something special in a match simulation, and two of our coaches who were on the sidelines immediately looked at each-other and one of them exclaimed "did you see that?". That comment really piqued my interest in Hunty, and I think we might now be starting to appreciate what the coaches were seeing.

..... and not a blemish amongst them.. Outstanding game!

6. T. Mac. - just one word "outstanding". 5. Watts - continued on from last week. 4. Gawn - his hitouts to advantage had us in the box seat from go to whoa. 3. Hogan - he's a "keeper" (lol). 2. N. Jones - tireless, tough and led ftom the front. 1. Viney - see Jonesy.

We haven't seen the best of Salem by a long way this season, and I'm guessing, but I reckon it has a lot to do with his health problems. If he can get them 100% under control (perhaps a lot easier said than done) then he has huge upside imo. You can't have too many 'top liners' with his skill set, and he is one of maybe three on our current list.
