Here are the games that Chris Johnson would've got a pass mark in his 31 games for the Dees. 2006: WCE V Melb - rd 9 Melb V St Kilda - rd 10 2007: Melb V Rich - NAB Regional Challenge 2008: Rich V Melb - rd 12 Melb V Bris - rd 14 WB V Melb - rd 15 Freo v Melb - rd 16 Melb V Nth - Rd 17 So that's 7 home & away games and 1 practice match where CJ was AFL standard. Is he in our best 22? Hell no! Bye bye to bad rubbish.
-
He was always going to resume full training at the start of Jan. This gives him 2 full months of preparation before hopefully playing in the final 2 practice matches. I'm optimistic he'll be there for round 1.

Let's not forget about Cale Morton.
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Neita3000's topic in Melbourne Demons
You never know. Miami Dolphins just made the NFL playoffs after going 1-15 in 2007. -
What a cop out! Maybe they reckon Macca might not see out the season??
-
The reason why he wasn't treated well over the 5 years was because he failed to prove himself at AFL level. I can count the amount of good games he played on one hand - one of them was in the NAB Cup and one of them was in a practice match against the 2007 wooden spooners. Having said that I wish him all the best for a successful VFL career at the Bullants.

No I can't provide a source, but I've read time and time again on this site that the MFC gave Meeson 3 years when he crossed over from Adelaide. Rhino Richards is also confident that Meeson is on a 3 year contract, and he has his sources.

Demons Jumper in crowd Boxing Day
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Old Man Rivers's topic in Melbourne Demons
What a gun! The renaissance is beginning! The last time I wore an MFC jumper to a non Melbourne game was the Bulldogs V's Adelaide game in round 1 this year(before our Hawthorn game) and got laughed and scorned at. They yelled out - "why are you wearing the piece of [censored] jumper"? I said to them "you watch guys, we'll beat Hawthorn tonight". Sure enough we got pumped by 103 points I'm sure that guy would've copped a fair bit in the crowd for wearing the Demon jumper, but good on him! -
Meeson and Newton are contracted for 2010. Sad thing is they can have rubbish years and still be on the list for 2010. Newton was one of the more perplexing re-signings (for 2 yrs) in recent years for the MFC.

Can we stay in the AFL if 2009 is as bad as 2008?

There lies the problem! We need to be self sufficient going forward. -
Colin Wisbey's Top 40 (well almost)
Bring-Back-Powell replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
So according to Wisbey: Our bargains: Addam Maric - 14 places Tom McNamara - 52 places (wow!) Neville Jetta - 16 places Kyle Cheney - 12 places Our Rip-Offs: Cale Morton - 12 places Jack Grimes - 11 places Sam Blease - not even in Wiseby's top 40. At the moment, you'd have to agree with Wisbey's Morton ranking (16) due to demonland's criticism about his kicking. However he did show signs in his games V's Essendon and West Coast to justify pick 4. Interesting that every other mock draft had Blease in the top 20. Wisbey really must not be a fan of his. -
No Warnock, Prismall, CJ, Hislop, Nick Nat, etc
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Courtney_Fish's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agree. I think he'll fail at Carlton. He's a clanger king! Wish the guy all the best...at the Bullants. -
No Warnock, Prismall, CJ, Hislop, Nick Nat, etc
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Courtney_Fish's topic in Melbourne Demons
The one that hurt me was Prismall. I really rate the player and he's kicked 6 goals and averaged 30 touches in 2 games V' Melbourne. We offered pick 35, but he chose Essendon over us. I'm going to watch Jamie Bennel with interest as he was the pick that we were willing to trade for Prismall. None of us can be either happy or angry with the selections until at least 3 years down the track. As others have suggested, lets hope we got Blease and Strauss right when you consider the quality picked after them (Swift, McKernan, Beams, Zharakis etc...) -
I don't believe we made a blunder. Was a little inconsistent and injury prone but still won a B & F (2005) and polled 18 votes in a brownlow (2002), and generally stepped up big for finals. He'd be the best player on the list if he were still with us (which doesn't say much about our list)

Jurrah- get ready for something special
Bring-Back-Powell replied to premiershipvigil's topic in Melbourne Demons
Did anyone notice the Primus logo on the jumper - OOPS -
If it's anything like the little league team Bailey sent down to Geelong in last year's NAB Cup, here is my likely team. B Bartram Martin Frawley HB Grimes Garland Petterd C Bail Dunn Buckley HF Watts Bate Morton F Jurrah Newton Wonaeamirri Foll Meesen Sylvia Jones INT Spencer Cheney Bennell Maric McNamara Jetta Sylvia to skipper the side and play his first full game in the middle!!
-
I'm really hoping he'll be a key forward that plays above his height. A Watts/Jurrah combo has me salivating!

Great post, but disagree with this point. We need to suck up a 4-18 season, in order to get picks and 1 and 2 in the National draft next year. We need to get the best forward and midfielder available, and that will officially complete the rebuild. We clearly dont have a list that is good enough to play finals. At best we'll win 6 or 7 games but still finish 13th or 14th and miss out on awesome draft picks. I don't see the point, and I'm wondering if the MFC coaching staff agree?? 2010, is when we'll make a play for the 8.

WELCOME BACK TO DEMONLAND - DANNY HUGHES
Bring-Back-Powell replied to Pinball Wizard's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we're going down the path of mature age, why wouldn't have we selected Greg Bentley (who Carlton picked up after us). Best player available at that age and Bailey rates him from his Port days. -
Casey Fields hosts NAB Challenge v Bulldogs
Bring-Back-Powell replied to casey scorp's topic in Melbourne Demons
If we play a full team and Hawthorn play an under 21's side, then yes the above may happen. -
Ever heard of the saying "never die wondering". He loves footy, he probably knows he won't be picked up, but at least this gives him closure.
-
I'm dead against this. As Eddie McChins mentioned, Richmond may steal the 1st pick we want in the rookie draft, with their extra PSD pick. They should only be given the one pick in the PSD.

Casey Fields hosts NAB Challenge v Bulldogs
Bring-Back-Powell replied to casey scorp's topic in Melbourne Demons
So if Port beat Sydney in the NAB Opener we'll play Sydney at Princes Park in week 2 on the Saturday. If Sydney beat Port we'll most likely play Port at AAMI on the Saturday. -
LOL! That guy is so freakin annoying. Why wouldn't they consider him best 22, if they're going to give him 2 years over a kid. Ratten reckons christmas has come early when ever CJ's name is mentioned. I've never seen a footy club so excited about a soft back flanker that's averaged about 4 games in 5 years.
-
Listening to Greg Swan on SEN a few weeks back would indicate that they seriously rate Chris Johnson and he's certainly part of Carlton's plans for next year. Brett Ratten will be over the moon if CJ is available at Carlton's pick. I think that spells best 22 to me. Having said that, I personally reckon he'll get dropped a few times next year, and he'll be the whipping boy among their fans next year.
-
Keep him as a rookie. Use the PSD pick on a Sibasodo, Rockliff, or Greg Bentley. Knowing our rotton luck with long term injury, Valenti will be promoted by round 1 anyway. I see Valenti as strictly depth at this point of time.
