Totally disagree. The rule is there to support bottom teams, and that's exactly what the MFC is this year. We won't be tanking. We will only win 1 or 2 games this year as we're barely AFL standard.
This is Melbourne's last opportuntity to get compensation before GC steal all the picks.
Or would you be happy if the AFL changed the rule this year and we're on the bottom with a 1-21 record and get denied a priority draft pick.
And by the way, Port and Freo could've tanked last year as both teams were below 22 points after round 16 last year. Carlton has been the only team that could be accused of tanking...and even then you could argue they were a team not good enough to win 5 games.
Hopefully Petterd can take Cheney's spot off half back, where he exploded into AFL in 2007. I'm glad Cheney's been omitted. Was offering us absolutley nothing the last 2 weeks. We seem to be gifting games to players who clearly aren't up to standard at the moment. I guess we have no depth, once we get a few injuries.
Maric not in the team is a sick joke right? We have an exciting fwd line of Watts, Jurrah, Robbo, and Maric lining up.....in the VFL.
Nar no chance.
Unfortunetly Richmond are too good a footy side for us.
8 goal loss given we have no fwds, our mids are turning the ball over like the plague and our defence will struggle to contain Richo, Brown, and Morton.
I'm not pro or anti Bailey.
But the facts remain that he's 3-25 as head coach, we're not getting any more competetive and both our senior and junior players are constantly making shocking skill errors quarter after quarter.
Both games he's played he's been invisable. Is he spending heaps of time on the bench or what?
I'm not defending him, but what he did V Port was OK in my book. No errors, just didn't have an impact. Bailey's not utilising him properly. Next week I'd like to see him play a full game from the goal square and aim to kick 1 goal per qtr for a total of 4. He's not a midfielder's shoe lace.
I reckon Bennell is progressing the best out of the 3. Is improving 100% per game. Loved that tackle and holding the ball he won in the last qtr and resultant goal.
Has a bit of class and composure about him. Good signs.
Out of our 4 wins this year (hopefully!), I really want one of them to be this week - just to see how the RFC ferals react.
Wanting a win on the richter scale for our games so far:
North - 7/10
Collingwood - 8/10
Port Adel - 5/10
I'm tipping another predictable result - like every week this season.
The Dees and Tiges will be neck and neck for 2 quarters, our young kids show a bit but then the Tiges draw away to an 8 goal win - and the RFC army celebrate like they've just won a premiership but in reality are positioning themselves for another 9th place finish.
Meanwhile I'll log on to demonland Monday morning to enjoy more Sylvia, Bruce, McLean, Bate, Jetta bagging.
Man footy's a yawn <_<
Given our record at AAMI and our crap list, I see a 4 goal loss as an excellent result.
I don't believe Bailey or the players have any expectation of winning - that's just my opinion.
A 4 goal loss should be a goal for the club.
A statement needs to made to the AFL that we won't be push overs this year.
I'm sure the Port players and fans are expecting to roll up and beat us by 12 goals. We need to change this perception.
^^^^
List management, aka tanking!
And Jetta and Bennell are still playing. We obviously have nobody available from Casey.
But seriously, how is it that the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, North Melbourne etc.. have their best 22 in the side while we are continually fielding below strength sides.
From a recovery point of view, it's good for the players. The next 5 weeks are all Sunday games so the players will enjoy some continuity and no 6 day breaks.
The Sunday twilight game against Adelaide should be a good experience for the fans. Something a little different.
From a hang-over point of view, just do all your boozing on Friday nights.
And I think there was this game we played underlights at the G late last year where the umpires cost us a win. I think it was the night of the Olympic ceremony
I'm not a Bruce defender or basher, but for him not to feature in our votes last weekend was a bit poor. 30 possessions suggests that you're trying your guts out and should at least warrant 1 or 2 votes.
I was advocating this during pre season, and everyone put [censored] on the suggestion.
Although he's a shocking kick for goal, I still feel he'd be a viable target down there and be good for 2-3 goals a game.
Was one of the shining lights down back on a truly pathetic MFC performance. Some of his contested marking was top shelf and he won the praise of Malcolm Blight.
Hopefully he can consolidate the no 2 key defence spot in the absense of Garland.
As for the question of ruck, not too sure to be honest.
