  1. Ah! The glamor of Sydney's west! How quickly it palls! And I see G Tunbridge at matches every so often!
  2. Wasn't it Max Gawn who said after first meeting Neeld that first he was scared and then he was very scared (or words to that effect)! Dean Bailey was the junior school teacher: now the players have jumped straight into year 12 and preparing to do battle at university level!
  3. That's the one - Tony Eishold! I think Northey fumed about it for weeks afterwards!
  4. It was the President's decision to tell Dean he was gone! And Jim said himself that it was one of the hardest decisions he's ever had to make. Maybe (and of course with 20/20 vision hindsight) it could/should have been handled differently. In corporate life and with the help of a good PR outfit, Dean would have been "helped" to resign his position: a decision that would have looked better all round. But it's now all history and we move on! And I'm sure Dean had a pretty good feeling that he was gone! He is now an honorable member of the society of sacked coach's.
  5. I was quite surprised by his agression and attack at the ball and his speed. Having only seen Sam on TV in VFL games I really thought he was going to be an ordinary player at best. Is he too small? Well I'm not sure if 184cm is that small (gee if only I was as tall - er small)!!!! We need line breakers and I reckon Sam may well be the man.
  6. Martin Flanagan wrote a beautiful rejoinder in the Age to the "Melbourne stands for nothing" mantra. I think it was published after he had spent that year with us (2008???). A few weeks ago Patrick Smith (also on Bartlet's SEN program) came out with that same hack line. I tried to find the article so I could phone Bartlet and Smith and ram Flanagan's words down their throats. Unfortunately a search online produced no results. Does anyone have access to Flanagan's article? If so could they post it here for us all to read (and maybe ram it down the collective Denham/Smith/Bartlett throat!
  7. Gee...lots of chiefs! Let's hope their egoes don't get in their way!
  8. And to think over the last couple of seasons I booooo'd and abused this bloke louder and longer than almost any other AFL player. So it's good to have him with us. I hope he can have our players being abused by oposition supporters for being absolute hard nuts!
  9. Sheeet! Did you see Colin Sylvia's first game. It was against North Melbourne - he had one (1) lousy handball!!!!! And remember Col was (I think) pick three in the draft! Save your opinions till the kid's played a few games please!
  10. Gee: we have Ginger Meggs playing for us now !
  11. Jack was a prefect at school and underwent extensive leadership training, so it's no wonder he comes across as quite polished on TV! However I believe a better forum for his talents is "Before the Game" (on which he has appeared)!
  12. Frankly I couldn't give a stuff. Good player (I think) but $6 million worth - never! And if we'd kept him and paid him $600k PA I'd have been ashamed because others are worth so much more to us. I'd be more concerned if it was Frawley, Trengove, Watts or Grimes who were being targeted by GWS because they and Tapscott, Blease, Garland, Jurrah, McKenzie and others are the future of this club. I would love Scully to have stayed but as good as he "may" become he's only one player! A new coach, a revamped football department and money to spend - we move on!
  13. Anyone who wears #1 is doooooomed!!!!!!
  14. No, No, No and hell No! #1 is a poisoned challis. It should be retired forever! It can collect dust forever! Warnock would have been better of sticking to his original number (whatever it was)!!!!!
  15. Actually it's not. Apparently a lot of people who are members of the MCC and have had no interest in football (or have not followed a specific team) now nominate the Dee's on their renewal form as there football club. Same goes for new MCC members. Over the next couple of decades our proportion of the MCC membership will increase. I purchase both a Cricket Club membership and a $160.00 MFC/MCC membership each year. And over the last 4 or 5 years I've been pleasantly surprised as more of my friends have done the same!
  16. 6: Garland 5: Jones 4: Blease 3: Green 2: Jurrah 1: Jetta And I liked Tom McDonald's game as well. I was hoping he's get a game this year based on what I've read/seen at Casey.
  17. 6: Sylvia 5: Jones 4: Garland 3: Bennell 2: Trengove 1: Frawley And an Elephant stamp for effort to Sam Blease!

    Bennell

Agree, excellent game from the lad yesterday. On that form I couldn't see him being traded/moved on (as some seem to want).
  19. The MCG dimensions are given as 160m x 141m in some publications (although the actual fence to fence dimensions are 173.6 x 148.4.) Docklands is supposedly 159.5 x 128.8. The ground does look a lot tighter than the MCG and certainly not 160m in length. A Western Australian man sitting behind me commentated on how small the ground was compared to Subiaco or the MCG. Are the docklands people kidding us with the ground size or is it just my (and a Weagles supporters) perception?
  20. 6:Frawley 5:Jones (gee, if only he could kick straight) 4:Howe 3:Garland 2:Trengove 1:Bartram (sh*t kick, but does a job on the opposition).
  21. Over at 'Ology a poster is reporting that the BOM lost out to a Korean company. Big, big deal!!!
  22. A bit easier than last week. And Watts keeps having a dip but watt's happened to Scully - not his best day at all! 6: Watts 5: McKenzie 4: Trengove 3: Garland 2: Martin (played OK) 1: MacDonald
  23. Do any of the top international soccer teams use altitude training? Surely if it was any good, many of the better/richer European teams would be at it!
  24. Didn't North Melbourne do some pre-season training at altitude in New Zealand this year? What's the difference between altitude training in Arizona and NZ? (other than the cost)!
