  1. Glenn Archer used to stand and beat far taller opponents. He was (I think) 182cm tall but powerful, coordinated and beautifully balanced. On the other hand I can remember 200cm lumbering ruckman who were hopeless. Hard work and ability, hard work and ability.

Any news regarding how our new CEO is going? He’s been in the job for a few weeks now so I thought we’d hear something about how he’s settling in. He has damn big shoes to fill!!!
  3. Just on young Bradtke, I understood he was being chased by a number of clubs before he chose Melbourne. I suppose recruiters saw something in him: ours certainly did?.
  4. Thank you for the excellent photographs 666. As a country lad who can’t get down to the city too often they really bring home to me the atmosphere of training. Well done.
  5. Gee, she is one very smart lady and from a very smart family. Just look at her entry in Wikipedia.
  6. ? What’s a Cheque? Is my credit card about to be replaced by new technology?
  7. And dominated by 10 drop in cricket pitches right now. Not to mention the surface grass cut to 12mm length for cricket (24mm for football) making it rather hard. I certainly wish we could but not possible any more.
  8. I suppose I’ve seen it a little too often, the “we got this bloke for peanuts but he’s really good”. However the FD made the decision and I hope it will be the correct one.
  9. I watches 1 match that he played in this year and had trouble finding him on the field. So yes at present Baltic and Viv Michie both come to mind. I wish the lad well but I’m a bit pessimistic.
  10. How things change, a few years ago our full forward was 187cm tall! In fact Allen Jackovich and Russell Robertson were 187 (and probably still are). Yet today they are considered smallish! And Colinjazzknee at 190 is mid sized. I feel an affinity with Charlie Spargo!
  11. Actually you do have a point (if IMHO badly expressed). I know MCC members who claim to support the Football Club yet don’t know much about the team and never go to matches. How wealthy they are,, I’m not sure?. It’s an interesting fact about MCC members, as many as 40% never go to events and of the remaining 60%, maybe 30% go to a match (cricket or football) once or twice a year. So, you pay $15.00 a year membership, lucky bu#*er! There’s that story from a few years ago concerning the man who travelled from England to attend the 50 year lunch. It was his first visit to the MCG!
  12. When I first saw Jordie McKenzie in a pre season game the bummers I thought we had found the player Clarry has since become. This new #13 is really one out of the box! I just hope we can afford to keep him!!!
  13. One of the very best pack marks in the league. That’s what I really like about Tom (and he can run all day)!
  14. A couple of years ago, a couple of bomber supporters told me Milky was useless and we were welcome to him. Toward the end of the season they had sure changed their minds with one even denying saying Milky was no good. And that left foot snap from just outside the 50 against Hawthorn (?) was equal to Bernie’s down at Geelong a few years ago!
  15. Goodonya Bernie, loved ya work. And you got to play 100 games for us as well, please sire plenty of boys, all Dees supporters.
  16. I’ll speak to Steve Smith about it the next time we have lunch?!
  17. So, another Clarry or Angus to add to our list! Wow, bring it on!
  18. Agree with the above, as it has overall been a very positive year. Let me add one further thing, “Increased club membership”. To have over 44,000 members was great and looking at those crowds supporting Melbourne at the Geelong and Hawthorn finals (your point 10) it’s not unreasonable to aim for 50K + within the next few years.
  19. I’m not too sure about TMac down back. But Hogan is versatile enough to play in a number of positions including CHB (where he’s played in his junior days). Keeping Hogan gives us more flexibility than letting him go. At his best the kid’s a beast - a beast with real talent. And they don’t grow on trees. And he could bite us in the bum playing for another team.
  20. Last 2 minutes of game against bummers 2014, Pedo slippers tackle on half back boundary, fires off handball to Jordie McKenzie and ball eventually lands in Salem’s hands, Dee’s win by a couple of points. MAGIC! Thanks Cam, good to have had you on board.
  21. Just wonderful! Flanagan has been my favourite sports journalist since many years ago he wrote a superb piece in The Age about Robert Flower. There is no one else in sports journalism who uses language as beautifully as he does. And his brother Richard’s rather good as well?.
  22. The ground is crown land and the MCC are responsible for its maintenance with the state government looking over the MCC’s shoulder.
  23. I attended a school in Brighton in the 50’s early 60’s, our football team wore a jumper exactly the same as Melbourne’s (same colours but different design these days). I can remember a few Melbourne players coming down to our ground to train on a couple of occasions, Mithen, Case not sure who else. Of course Melbourne was the absolute power house of the VFL in those days and the really really daggy team was Hawthorn. And just as an aside, one name that doesn’t crop up too often in discussions about the good old days is Brian “Doc” Roet, great sold half back who I believe went and practiced medicine in the UK. Otherwise if you’re looking for John Lord or Bryan Kenneally you’ll find them both working as volunteer tour guides for the MCC.
  24. A couple of minutes into the first quarter. They kicked a point and Frost kicked the ball almost to the centre circle and after a couple of handballs the ball landed in Hannan’s hands who kicked it to Tom Mc D. Goal! End to end in 20 seconds - Magic!
