  1. And he’s still greatly respected back at the Doggies. It’s not just Daniel Cross’s playing/training abilities that made him special but his whole outlook on life. I’m certainly glad we’ve still got him.
  2. I had a quiet laugh to myself when Melksham kicked that goal after a Crow fumble a few cm from our goal line. It reminded me of the sort of things that regularly happened to us in the bad old days, I remember flinching more than once when our ineptitude was exposed in the back half. (Matthew Lloyd and Al Nicholson standing, wrestling with the ball on the goal line and Lloyd nonchalantly pushing it backwards over the line)!
  3. 2 changes! out Hunt, Pederson, in Weiderman, Balic.
  4. 6: Brayshaw 5: Hogan 4: Jones 3: Lever 2: Neal-Bullen 1: Oliver also Gawn, Fritsch, Milkshake, Hibberd, Vince etc. etc.
  5. I wondered if Nicholson would be considered for the post after reading that PJ was stepping down. And yes I really wasn’t a fan either, stolid or dour are adjectives that come to mind when I remember his time as a player. However champion players don’t always make great administrators and no matter how ordinary Nicholson was as a player (110 games!!!!!) he’s kicked a few goals/made a few runs as an administrator. (Is he the right fit for the MFC: that’s another question).
  6. In a win like this we need a top ten: but, 6: Melksham 5: Brayshaw 4: Jones 3: McDonald T. 2: Lever 1: Gawn
  7. So many good players but: 6. Harmes 5. Brayshaw 4. Oliver 3. Salem 2, Lewis 1. McDonald T. .
  8. After attending the game yesterday, and reading comments in this thread about Tim Watson’s anti Melbourne commentary I was interested to view the replay. What I heard was Watson, Bartel and Taylor praising and criticising both teams when they felt. the teams and players deserved it. Watson certainly praised Oliver, Hogan, Gawn and Brayshaw often enough (the praise for Oliver by all commentators bordered on the effusive). That Watson gave credit to StKilda players from time to time is understandable and necessary. I cannot say I’m a great Tim Watson fan, but anti Melbourne commentary - no!
  9. 6: Oliver 5: Gawn 4: Brayshaw 3: Jones 2: Hogan 1: Hibberd
  10. I thought the place kick was regularly used in footy in the early 20th century, at a time when the game was less frenetic. As for the drop kick: I questioned a former AFL coach about its revival and was told it was just too difficult to execute on the run and apparently teams have banned players from using it. Bad luck, because a well executed drop kick is beautiful to behold.
  11. See my previous post on this thread. He’s a good 8 cm (or more) taller than Caleb, and at just 18 years old may still be growing a bit.
  12. 6: Gawn 5: Jones 4: Salem 3: Melksham 2: Hibberd 1: Brayshaw And thumbs up to Hannah, Fritsch O. Mac and Spargo.
  13. Too small they said, a bloody midget. I was seated behind the goals during the third quarter. Charlie was being minded by Andrew McGrath and their was very little difference in their height (if at all). This whole discussion about Charlie’s height is a bit silly really. The kid’s going to be very good! Nice debut.
  14. If he had kicked straight who knows if he would have kicked 6 goals! Remember after a goal is scored the game starts again and. It’s a different scenario. We may have scored not Essendon.
  15. 6: Oscar McD 5: Melksham 4: Hibberd 3: Gawn 2: Oliver 1: Hogan
  16. Leaving the ground last night I was thinking of that old eunuch joke: the one about the eunuch in the harem - he knows what to do and how to do it, but when it comes to the crunch..... Such is the Melbourne Football Team.
  17. 6: Oliver 5: Hogan 4: Salem 3: Gawn 2: Oscar Mc 1: Kent
  18. Earlier in this thread I mentioned re joining as an MCC/MFC member, yet I’m still getting emails from the club asking me to re join. Apparently when joining as a MCC member your MCC membership has to be verefied and this takes time. So I’m sure there’s a backlog of memberships to be counted. We could well be over 41k by now (even 42k).
  19. Thyroid issues can have a very serious effect on the body. Last year I was concerned that young Salem may not make it. That he appears to have overcome this serious medical problem is excellent news.
  20. Slightly off topic, but was the last time we beat North ( that is before last Saturday) Colin Sylvia’s first game? I seem to remember Colin’s first game was in 2006 against North where he got one or two touches only! It just puts into perspective the length of time between wins.
  21. 1: We won! 2: The steady improvement in Wagner. 3: Max Gawn just beautiful to watch.
  22. Who knows what the future holds, but Fritsch certainly has the body of Flower. THIN!
  23. 6: Gawn 5: Hogan 4: Bugg 3: Jones 2: Wagner 1: Salem then Petracca, Kent, Lewis and a weekly improving Fritsch.
