AFL Mid-Season Draft 2024
A list of former AFL listed players that have nominated. I was keen on Teakle at the start of the year and think we should seriously look at him. The few games he played for port he showed he was a capable ruckman and not bad up fwd either. At least a good backup if anything happened to max. The other worth looking at is Bianco, good footballer who maybe needed that drive after being delisted to get to the next level. I really think Teakle is a go though, i have heard from a couple of Port people i know he may have attitude issues though.

I think you highlighted my point. Of that list you put up there is 1 Key position player. And Picket was an SSP yes but was also an AFL player before that. Midfielders you will find. Key position you wont. You can argue that about the Key fwds but the fact is there are very few Key fwds and Def in the AFL, so if they are worth it they would be listed. Big difference to being a good stay at home forward in the lower levels compared to covering 8-12km per game in the AFL.

Time to Blood Jeffo
20 years old and not even 2 seasons in. The kid isn't ready, and doesn't have the build like JVR to hold up at AFL level.

Unfortunately rucks and key fwds that are not already in AFL systems are no good. They dont have the fitness base and 0 idea of systems. This is why teams switch players positions rather than grab lower level Key positions. Very few SSP players have had success at AFL level let alone Key position. This would work however if you are taking someone with the view of the future and developing them. But that won't help us this yr

Favourite players from other clubs
I'm sure this has been done before, but i need to take my mind off the game on the weekend. Who in the current AFL system is your favourite couple of players outside of the Dees? Im not talking best/gun players just players you like to watch! For me its : Errol Gulden and Dan Houston Both classy players that look smooth with ball in hand.

Woey isn't a winger, i actually like him as a lock down back pocket. Hunter is 183cm and a nugget, we need footy smarts. Running gets you nothing if it's to the wrong spots, and unfortunately our guys are not good at that. If we coukd find another 2 Windsors id be happy!! Im not asking for Hunter to get 20 and kick 2. But if he has 15 and goes at 80% thats what we need atm. Which is suppost to be what Billings is for

Who cares about future, he is a solid AFL standard player. We have a list that can push for top 4 this year, he is a part of that. Our midfield is very thin after losing Dunstan, Harmes, Jordan. Unfortunately our kids are too small, Hunter is a bigger body and has good ball use. We need a bit of stability and smarts in the middle of the ground, he is a better option than Billings.

FB: Bowie May McVee HB: Rivers Petty TMac C: Langdon Viney Windsor HF: ANB Fritsch Kossie FF: Chandler JVR McAdam Fol: Gawn Oliver Petracca Int: Salem Sparrow Hunter Howes Woewodin(Sub) In: Langdon, JVR, Hunter Out: Lever(inj), Brown, Billings Petty to def to cover Lever and get a bit of form, give McAdam another go and use he and Fritsch as lead up fwds in a smaller fwd line. Hunter comes in for some midfield depth and ball use. Langdon and JVR no brainers.

Dusty Martin
Yeh, maybe a 2 yr deal then. He just looks like someone that is sick of getting flogged. Just more value in coming to a side like us than an average side like GC
-
Dusty Martin
Ok hear me out. Dusty to me looks like he has lost a bit of passion at a club that is changing direction and destroyed by injury. Could we get him across and a 1 year contract with a clause for a second or something. Petracca showed us how valuable he is up forward on the weekend and this could allow him to spend more time fwd and Dusty a small amount of time in the midfield. That's a scary 1-2 punch for any opposition, imagine dusty finally goes into the midfield and then you have to match up on Petracca when he comes forward for 5-10min. Bit of out there thinking but surely he would be more valuable to us that a Gold Coast

PODCAST: Rd 09 vs Carlton
Horrible horrible first quarter. But, to be an optimist after that, it is the best we have played in the wet for 4 years. Maybe goody is learning! Would have been a great win to get but not the end of the world, i do think we need Hunter in the rotation and once Bowie is back to full fitness there is a bit more class through the middle. not too worried by this loss

Huge win, very pleased. Good to see Petty run into some form, i like this role too, up the ground more where his leading patterns don't matter as much but we can move the ball quickly if he clunks it around the wing which means we can change angles and get better fwd options. It also allows him to help the defence out and play his natural game of attacking the footy in the air. The inclusion of Turner has allowed this to happen. Also, i wasn't sure about you Woey as a def, but could he be that lock down small defender we have been craving since Jetts retired?

Pre-Game food and drink
Hey Legends Im sure there is already a thread about this. Where are some good places to have a drink and a bit to eat before the game, coming in from Lilydale so keen to get in a little early. Preferably closeish to the G so i dont gave too far to run after squeezing "one more" in.

Issac Cumming
Whitfield, Ash, Himmelburg, Idun and Perryman are the names getting a game ahead of him, all guns. I agree about the other areas, but this kid is a walk up start in most teams in the comp. Unfortunately no KPFs available worth spending $$ on.
-
Issac Cumming
yes he is, and you would think we can offer him more $$ than GWS as their books would have to be pretty tight

The Drums are starting to beat for North
Also A Redlegs supporter, and don't want them in the AFL because i don't know how i would choose between them and the Dees! It's also just a media story and nothing else!

yeh exactly, i really like him. but we do have so many of this player that we are throwing defenders forward, so it is hard to spend capital in that area. Just a classy player that is available.
