simply and for some reason this is going to shock a lot of DLers on this thread, because grundy is better

who's to say that in 2-3 years we won't be able to grab the next meek/flynn who's stuck at a club not getting games? NM have a queue of tall boys coming through behind goldy and xerri, the cats have drafted two talls they rate highly both behind stanley blic and sav at the time being. what if it was 900 for the next two years and only 450-600 for the three years after that. suddenly it sounds far more reasonable. 700 over 5 is an average contracts can be loaded in any each way.
  3. i think when you view our rookie list for 2022 and overall list its not too surprising. Majak and likely MBrown off the list and Chandler contracted to move to the senior list already gives us 3 rookie positions to potentially fill already, AMW as a cat b isnt going to be forced off by anyone unless we have 2 international/cross code/nga prospects in the pipeline, we dont + he's shown enough so easy recontract. With McVee and DSmith we also have a wealth of defensive options ahead of them currently ahead of them including Bowey, Riv, JSmith, Hibbo, Hunt and Tommo so it wouldn't necessarily be worth us moving one of them on to recruit again at HB so soon when we have a good spread of depth, youth and talent. our OOC players are currently mostly covering two points of the ground which i think is a good thing key position -JSmith, MBrown, LJ + Majak - clearly a position of weakness we're weighing up options at. And HF/midfield link up -Melksham, Bedford, Baker, Rosman where we currently have some options but are continuing getting let down in and could quite easily strengthen in over this off season. but i get what you're saying with McVee and DSmith averaging 11d it's hard to really see whether they are going to turn the corner and really make it at afl level. but it's baby steps. If clubs average 8 list changes a season ours this year will land somewhere close to that in my view Baker, JSmith, MBrown, Maj, LJ, Melky
  4. adam simpson said in an interview about a month ago that luke strnadica stepped away from the club deciding afl wasn't for him during the season
  5. WCE cant trade their first pick coz they havent used two in a four year cycle
  6. grundy probably appears shorter than most oponent ruckmen because he's all torso and trunk and no legs, thats why his mobility and follow up work is better than most ruckmen, low centre of gravity and closer to ground
  7. Finn Emile-Brennan is an NGA prospect, theres a thread on him already. If hunt thinks about other opportunities i would certainly look at JJ and even if hunt stays i would too. bevo salad has him playing a half forward role whilst hannan?! plays at HB, JJ off a back flank is a much better distributer in my eyes and given hibbo's legs are a bit more weary JJ would add some effective burst and change of pace on a good value deal
  8. good thinking dwight!

it's quite laughable that harry jones is anywhere near the discussions for bedford. they don't call it the silly season for no reason i guess!! if he goes, it'll be bedford for maybe a future third rounder and then some sort of other pick swap happening to get them more points for this year and we might shuffle picks up the board at a deficit points wise but to maximise the quality of our likely mimimal selections
  10. imo Riccardi > McLean just my opinion tho and would be equally frustrated by role/opportunity
  11. i mean a Green, Greene, Coniglio, Ward, Whitfield, Kelly is still a top 8 midfield

yep but they were in for bobby hill last year (thats cooled right off) to play alongside tippa, now tippas gone and they didn't get hill they're definitely well short on small forwards i think he starts next year behind Laurie too who's definitely overdue a debut -was surprised melky got the recall instead of him on the weekend but he performed really well and deserves to hold his spot. Bedford is probably more in the kozzy goalkicking mould than the ANB/Spargo up the ground and 15-20 touches mould that laurie is

because then the essendon drug saga kicked off so they had to fine us so they could move their attention to the next and more important scandal

we've been repeatedly linked with a breust or gunston move for a few years now and zurhaar would be exactly that type of player. i think theres absolutely room for him in the side as he compliments what we already have nicely and could take the place of a small or we could play with one less mid rotation like we did on the weekend by bringing in melksham for oliver.
  15. pretty sure freo have never not wanted lobb to stay regardless of any other options they've been looking at

he already played in one, but i guess you are right still because did the crows even show up?
  17. while the usual vfl suspects flourished: Bill Laurie, JVR, Riv, Dunstan, Chandler, Hunt, Melky, Weid and even everyones favourite prospective project ruckman Bell was good. Rosman, DSMith and McVee didn't really impact with ball in hand, i know its geelong in geelong but she's gotta be close to writing on the wall almost
  18. talk to us then, you've given less analysis than everyone else in the forum so far. talk specifics, why do they deserve to stay on the list? what've you seen?
  19. no way matt crouch is still a crow come next season. suits a collingwood, geelong, port and richmond
  20. Rosman, DSmith and McVee all play that similar defensive role but statistically none has really stood out from any other and none has had a noticeable game with 20+ touches and real impact. with all three OOC i wonder if they decide to keep 2/3 all three or none i feel like as many have said it's really lineball. If in fact Rosman is the standout of the three so far (i havent seen any vfl footage only opinions based on the statistical evidence which i know isnt the be all and end all) then maybe dropping him to the rookie list in place of chandler who has to come up and MBrown who has to come up or go too is the way to go. the comp wide average each season is 8. i'd imagine we'd be on the lower side of that at around 5-6 but if jacko/gus or both or even an OOC fringe player like hunt or Jsmith decide to move on we'd be closer to bang on the average
  21. wonder if the writing is on the wall now for jsmith at the end of the season being OOC, he was really adding something in the early rounds, offers good depth
  22. was at the coburg gcs vfl game on the weekend, despite the loss mac was incredible in the air taking 5-6 intercept marks in pack situations, once he fills out his frame he's going to be a special player, don't go writing him off any time soon
  23. they can be, when sam murray left sydney for collingwood 5 or so years ago it was as a rookie onto the senior list via trade
  24. we should take jackson broadbent, a 200cm west aussie ruckman so he's coming into his prime just as darcy hits the age of thirty and then we can try and fight both WA clubs for a 7mil 8 year contract, that's probably not a very realistic storyline though so maybe it won't play out like that

Tommo came in on 4yrs 500k if i recall correctly, you'd imagine that was front loaded given Trac, Oliver, Gawn, Viney Brayshaw AND Harmes werent resigned past 2023 at the time iirc therefore i'd imagine they would have had the money to spend at the time knowing they had big deals to secure towards the end of his deal
