The Charlie Spargo Appreciation Thread
ProperDee replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I prefer that he doesn’t. Keep it all business. Do your job, position up again and repeat. A few others could take a leaf from Charlie’s book. Plenty of time to celebrate when the job is finished. -

I think it has more to do with a lack of physical strength than anything else. He has had multiple pre seasons to build his upper body but never really has.

Mathieson will try and get under the skin of Clarry I’m tipping. It would be great to see somebody run through him early. Steve May has a prior conviction for flattening Lions players but maybe we keep that option for GF day! Pity Viney isn’t playing as he would be the man to sort Mathieson out perhaps. McLuggage, Lyons and Zorko are the danger players. In particular McLuggage who is having a great season and would be my player to tag. Brisbane are very strong forward. Daniher and Hipwood are taller than May and Lever and if they choose to throw McStay forward too that will create a headache with Cameron and McCarthy very good smalls in support. Brisbane’s defence is their Achilles heel (apart from Andrews) and we can really stretch them there. Whomever gets picked up by Andrews needs to drag him as wide as possible in an attempt to negate his outstanding defensive capabilities in contested high ball situations. Langdon is a massive out and I would be inclined to swing Hunt to the wing as cover and perhaps bring in Mitch Brown or Jay Lockhart to help out in defence depending on the perceived match ups. Baker is not the player for the task IMV. I hope it’s a dry track which makes for a better spectacle.

Unless he removes the digit in the second half it may be time to Zero the Weed..

Shut down or limit Bont and Macrae, play disciplined team based footy, add a touch of niggle and we can win it.

I will be RAPT! ? And it’s only fair considering you Victorians have kicked this off again....(joking) I was heading down to Melbourne tomorrow to watch the game and spend time with my mate who is a psychopathic Doggies fan. I was going to be sitting amongst Dogs fans and had planned to not show my Demon allegiance until we were 9 goals up with 3 minutes to play. My mate is a retired international airline pilot and a nicer, friendlier, more intelligent man you would not meet. Sadly, for Dog’s games, the bloke takes on the persona of Western suburbs bogan complete with painted face, ultra loud beer burps, calling everyone “knackers” screaming himself hoarse abusing umpires for every free kick paid to the opposition and even ripping the lids from meat pies and eating them first. Needless to say those plans have been cancelled and QANTAS has already refunded my fare. On reflection, maybe it is a good thing.

Petracca/Oliver: Greatest Midfield Duo of All-Time?
ProperDee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
To rate a midfield, all 4 players need to be taken into consideration. At the moment we have around 2.75. Viney would bring that to 3.25 IMV. Still short of a perfect 4. -

Round 10 Coaches Votes - Oliver Leads
ProperDee replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
I’d take Clarry over Trac every day of the week. Christian needs to lose the friendliness/smiles/chats towards the opposition.and get a touch of mongrel in him. Leave that buddy krap for off field. -
FWIW I agree entirely. He would be hard pressed taking a pack mark among Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.
-
Absolutely. And be prepared to cop 10 weeks for a Premiership. When I played footy, a sniper like Lynch would have been knocked out before half time. Those were the days.......?
-
Well young Sam, here is your chance son! I want to see him hold a handful of marks, lay some strong tackles, crash a few packs and kick at least a couple of sausage rolls. Step right up to the plate and give those fans that believe in you something to get excited about. I reckon you owe it to them.
-
We will keep the squirrel tackle locked away until GF day then?
-
FMD.......?

I think we tend to get dragged down to the level of the team we are playing in the first half of games. We often seem to get jumped early and I put that down to the adrenalin of oppo players all fired up against a top/top two team. After half time, we seem to click into gear and pull away. I feel as though Trac played sore today and seemed a bit out of sorts. I also reckon we are a better dry weather team despite contrary opinions. Viney needs to be back for the Doggies game and is key to our centre clearance success.

Late change for us today? Slight murmur about it apparently. I don’t know more than that.

I just double the blood pressure meds for game day brekky.
-
Agree to a certain extent. Just don’t think that it helps tall forwards and we have a few of ‘em. He might have had an off day but Kozzie looked like he was playing on ice against Sydney.
-
Probably a few reasons why Oliver isn’t rated by oppo fans. Ollie wins balls in more clinches and that is not pretty to watch (unless you are one of us). He also does not kick that many goals, take contested marks or look flashy. Clarry also handballs more than he kicks quite often under intense pressure. Although it looks ugly at times, he invariably hits a team mate with those “flukes” although we know it’s more to do with his uncanny ability. Bont is a very good player but Clarry wins a lot more hard balls and IMO therefore more damaging. * Plus what faulty just said!

The wet worries me. It killed off Fritta and Kozzie last week and I think we are much better suited to a dry track. Carlton’s defence is not so bad. Weitering, Docherty and Saad are good players. If they bring Newman back after injury that will help too. Liam Jones is ok if he just concentrates on punching the ball away but often gets carried away with the belief that he is a footballer. As an opposition coach, if you looked at a forward line containing Brown, Weideman, TMac, Fritsch, Kozzie and occasionally Trac, that’s a very serious concern. Carlton don’t have enough quality cattle to match up on all of those players who collectively are probably the most potent forward line in the comp. On Kozzie, I’d give him a few runs through the middle where it will be dryer than the flanks and pockets. We’ll miss Jack Viney again unfortunately. He seems to loves these damp games at the ‘G. Demons by 30.
