Jonathan Brown to take Sam Weideman under his wing
ProperDee replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
If the perceived issues with Weideman are an apparent lack of urgency and attacking the ball, then he has a problem. These are both psychological/behavioural issues that diminish confidence and cannot be repaired by teaching. From my perspective, these are the traits of a player that is subconsciously worried about getting hurt and that is something that is very difficult to overcome. No, it doesn’t mean he is a squib. It’s something that does affect sports men and women particularly those that have sustained serious injury, can surface immediately or even years after the incident and they have no control over it. If any opposition defender gets even a hint that Sam is a tad reluctant he’ll get smashed from pillar to post. Perhaps Choco is the man to take him aside with a referral to someone like Noel Blundell although the club will obviously have its own sports psych. -

Posters asking why Brown instead of Weideman? BROWN - 200 cm. 101 kg. 130 games for 287 goals at 2.2 per game. Marks average per game 4.8. WEED - 196 cm. 97 kg. 44 games for 46 goals at 1 per game. Marks average per game 3.5. No contest. -

Personally, I think Weideman may struggle to get a game unless he strings together some big efforts at Casey, somebody gets injured or somebody loses form. He is (IMHO) behind Brown in terms of class. For me, Weeds biggest problem is his inability to consistently take one grab marks at AFL level. It’s an unpleasant thought but unless he takes his opportunity with both hands, if and when it presents, his future may be in the black and white perhaps? -
Haha NFW. We have the best defence in the comp without him and with 3 potential A.A selections in it.

Hahaha! The reaction from a non-footballer was expected. You obviously think it’s ok to squib a contest on the footy field.
-
This from Neil Crompton “(And there was an example on Saturday where he deliberately pulled out of a contest - which certainly was not a good look).” I can forgive pretty much anything on a footy field except shirking a contest. He is a multiple offender. Granted, the bloke has done well this year (in a winning team) and yes, the goal on Saturday night was brilliant but watching a team mate put self preservation before the team deflates the spirit like a pin pricking a balloon. These things also are not missed by opposition coaches and players. That cannot be tolerated in a team looking to win a premiership. Yeah, I’m harsh and will be berated but do you want a premiership team or not? Maybe Choco needs a one on one with him.

As much as I love Nate Jones, he is no longer a best 22 player. I am certain that he knows that. Jones out for Brown. Weideman no chance.

Richmond - Done and Dustied! He was a shot duck at quarter time.

ANB, you lack intestinal fortitude and that is the kind way of saying that.

There’s a mocker on us right there. Cheers.

Bedford is a different player now. He has matured, his confidence has grown and that was reflected in his game on Sunday. Hunts the ball, is very quick, applies great pressure, tackles hard and kicks well. Has added some toughness too which his opponents felt. Yes, he is behind Kossie and Spargo (who of course is different type) but he will get his opportunity and I look forward to that.

Can’t be a Tigers fan. It’s too articulate, is without spellos and well argued.

Drop Jones? FMD. What better extra motivation for the boys to get over the line for Nate’s 300th? I would take out Jordon, M. Brown and ANB for BBB, The Weed and Bedford. Sparrow stays as sub.

Maxy and Kossy to the goal square and open it right up. Jackson to ruck second half.

First game in a couple of seasons? Gimme a break.

Riding the snow downhill.

Ahhhh yes. The real ANB has turned up today. Never ever a best 22 player.

Just gave away 100 metre penalty. In and out of the game. Engine room player doing the grunt work around the ground.

Joel Smith knee injury. “Maybe a medial”. Poor fella can’t take a trick.

FWIW I like the look of 20 year old Casey player Luca Goonan. Skilled, tough and strong as a bull. Worth keeping an eye on.

I haven’t noticed Bowey after 1/2 time. Did some nice things earlier. Gutsy little fella. Not frightened to have a go. Kicked in from full back too.

Brown has played up and down the ground and having a really good hit out. Also kicked three goals so far and looks in great nick.

Took me less than 2 minutes!
