  1. Great intel @Little Goffy - did you know this off the top of your head?
  2. Ah, so this particular round, the win or loss, is predicated only by the players investment in Goodwin? That's an intense read after 2 rounds Jimbob.
  3. dont have a link, but in The Age / re: Dustin Martin (today's)
  4. Clayton must be watching this pondering schrodinger's cat.
  5. @Altona-demon - love the endeavour in your post. Thorough, thorough thorough. As the eternal optimist my alterations are below. Probables Geelong - Round 4 Hawks Round 5 North in Tas - Round 7 Carlton - MCG - Round 9 Adelaide - SA - Round 10 Collingwood - Round 13 Essendon - MCG - Round 15 Giants - Round 16 Hawks - Round 18 GC - Metricon - Round 19 I'll only leave these here purely because I think they're all gettable wins... that takes us to 10 wins ('yes including Adelaide Oval, and even more 'yes, I left out Adelaide at the G, because what we do is lose those ones) But the beauty of reading this for me, is that nowhere throughout the season, do we win more than two games in a row, which of course creates that old familiar feeling that is synonymous when opening up this forum with... yeah - we won, but clearly we're not actually good enough.
  6. Leave me out of it... (good read though)
  7. I hope the "why we beat x team' thread continues weekly.... it's a positive place for positive people.
  8. Ruthless Dr. Ruthless... Serious question... if the AFL said that 2 clubs from Melbourne has to exit the state (exit or fold)... out of sheer pragmatism would you put forward Melbourne as one of those clubs, on the notion of your version of 'deservedness'? Is it membership numbers? Is it continued performance over a period of years? Is it random facts like below? it's been 5,892 days since Essendon won a final Carlton have been in finals series twice in the last decade ...im off for dinner with the kids...but im sure there are useless facts for North Melbourne St Kilda, Hawthorn, Footrscrazy, etc, that would perhaps fit them into a notion of not deserving either... Still Demonland is a great place for folk to vent that their expectations aren't being met I suppose
  9. Hard but fair player he is, like the players of yore...hard but fair.
  10. What questions would these be? FMD. On a more serious note, I know for me as I have had a family, my commitments to AFL are no longer the priority - as it may be for some... and that's ok. Not every person lives their entire life fully committed to attending games, or can justify it to themselves or their family members. The options of how we spend our lives on weekends is not so myopic as it may have been 20 years ago (in my 20's). You're merely putting your own expectations on how a life should be lived, onto others, and I'd argue it's far too inflexible.
  11. Is this logo 'on brand'? We moved this on circa 15 years ago eh?
  12. Well that was easily solved @kev martin ?
  13. Yep - it's a rare day I agree with your constant vitriol of the club selections and players @olisik (back handed, I know) - however, the evidence from the last few years is that Harmes struggles in this position... however, I defer to the selection committee... the decision cannot be around 'it'll click sometime for him'... so what else is there to do?
  14. thanks for the insight @deelusions from afar
  15. How are we all feeling a few years on from the mortal remains of Jack Watts leaving the club? Oscar's in the same echelon.... Here's to this thread getting to as many pages as JW...
  16. Good chat there kind bloke - would you care to point me in the direction of it?
  17. This will seem like a ridiculous question so close to the start of the season, but am I right that the AFL app no longer shows games and that if I wish to view a game, Kayo is the way to go, to be able to watch on a device? Thanks in advance...
  18. haha! aren't you being negative yet again after just one post ?
  19. no one else in the midfield does that with regularity... perhaps that's why he is picked... he legitimately contributes to team ethos...
  20. [censored] me lads and ladies... a lot of apathy/unfounded angst towards a bloke that hasn't played a game yet. ...and you call yourselves supporters ?
  21. Ugh, I'm up in arms with all the amateur psychoanalysts on here... If you seriously think you can judge someone from what you view in the false reality that is a press conference...consider your own expectations your own prejudices your own experiences of how you were 'coached' and how that informs what coaches should behave like (and understand that you and your experiences are not the rest of your cohorts, let alone the rest of the population) flip it on it's head. If Melbourne had made the 8 and met versions of your own expectations, you'd consider the bloke to be pretty relaxed considering the $hitstorm his personal life has been over the last year or so, whilst turning up to a high profile job...but just because we missed the 8...it MUST mean x, y, z... also...me earlier.... "just leave Goodwin alone...sob"
  22. [censored] me man, that is magnificent!
  23. Do you reckon the person who delivered the message, was waiting for him to attend the funeral before he pressed 'dial'?? ?
  24. I think it's unfair to state that 3 year figure. There are only limited numbers of decent full forwards Cameron Kennedy Lynch Reiwoldt (debatable) Franklin (permanently injured) Melbourne would be vying with 14/15 other teams, to come across someone who is ready made. You can only recruit who is available.
  25. Sometimes I wonder if this is true - perhaps we are where we should be...and it wouldnt matter if Goodwin was coach or not. Bulldogs have a fantastic midfield - 2 years older on average than ours (50 games or so)...but no real recognised forward... they just scraped into the 8 last year. It's not dissimilar to us, with 50 games less average in the midfield, and no forward line to speak of (weid, brown injuries noted). Perhaps I'm just apathetic...and steeling myself for mediocrity in 21.
