WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
I think it's unfair to state that 3 year figure. There are only limited numbers of decent full forwards Cameron Kennedy Lynch Reiwoldt (debatable) Franklin (permanently injured) Melbourne would be vying with 14/15 other teams, to come across someone who is ready made. You can only recruit who is available.

Sometimes I wonder if this is true - perhaps we are where we should be...and it wouldnt matter if Goodwin was coach or not. Bulldogs have a fantastic midfield - 2 years older on average than ours (50 games or so)...but no real recognised forward... they just scraped into the 8 last year. It's not dissimilar to us, with 50 games less average in the midfield, and no forward line to speak of (weid, brown injuries noted). Perhaps I'm just apathetic...and steeling myself for mediocrity in 21.

Good work Kev - I agree in almost totality. My thoughts... You can have authenticity, empathy, and connection AND be really bloody minded and driven towards goals. They're not mutually exclusive. You want people working from a space of values, not from fear (fear of judgement, fear of getting dropped for not performing consistently, fear of being humiliated). I'm camping at the moment, and my neighbour next door whilst he was setting up his 1983 pop top, yelled at his son to 'pi$$ off' (who is 7 it turns out)... poor young kid... operating in a space of fear... now some of us on this site, think that as 18-30yo, the players at the MFC also need to have some 'good, hard conversations also' - as though the club doesn't forensically examine each players output on game day or training....(like all clubs). We don't like being yelled at, we don't like to be disrespected, and we wouldn't follow a leader who acts like that. It wouldn't happen in any other workplace, if you're genuinely trying to create behavioural change. Hilariously, (my thoughts) - sport is about executing skills, in a space of chaos. It's not cognitive like an IT job, or a psychology job, or as a banker, or a baker. There is time to think and time to compose. Sport is [censored] chaotic, at a broad and at a granular level. Stephen Milne could be a premiership hero if it wasn't for an unlucky bounce. Mitch Morton IS! Cale isn't. In every single passage of play, there is a cm here or there, that could conspire to change the game - it's debatable how much is skill, how much is timing, how much is luck... When we are anxious supporters - we tend to forget that.... None of us were questioning Goodwin's empathic (human??) philosophy in 2018.... Happy Friday to you all... one week to go!

Review Finds Collingwood Guilty of Systemic Racism
You'd be well aware of the machine that is AFL football, and the need to fit in. The need to fit in if you are markedly different from others... I cannot imagine an 18yo, who started in 2005 - with the playing list below... would kick up a fuss about a nick name bestowed upon him by his luminaries, or contemporaries, when all an 18yo wants to is fit and get selected. And then you age a few years (but only still 22-25 ), and you know, no one else at the club (aside from Leon or other indigenous athletes) knows what it is like to not be white in and white male dominated industry.. (and you've got the president of said club mouthing off the way he has always done)... I'd like you to really reconsider your statement there @don't make me angry You've got no idea of what afl club land is like, nor do you know what it was like and his lived experience.

2021 Full Fixture
I was there for 186, suffered through it live... I was there when the cats cheered Corey Enright pre match for his 300... and the subsequent schaedenfraud during the same game and the brilliant game that Bernie Vince played that night. Standing there as a local amongst the silence... the deathly silence as the siren went.... Kardinia Park is no hoodoo. only to yze getting robbed of Mark of the year in the goal square, whilst Miller took a kidney of Lonergan and we effing ended up drawing.

Nah, I didn't - just riffing on the unrealistic expectations of folk :)- WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - FRASER ROSMAN
Judging by current enthusiasm...I'd expect most pundits on here @FireInTheBennelly would be disappointed if in his first year, he isn't jagging 3 goals per game, committing 15 pressure acts and holding down a key position spot in the forward line, whilst being touted as leadership material.- Mark Williams New Head of Development
Not much, he died a long time ago.- Farewell Josh Mahoney
I'm the same @Cheesy D. Pun Mind you, I cannot even think of an older coach move out of the system and come back... Can you (anyone) name any?- Welcome to Demonland Bailey Laurie
Not enough clearly ? has Goodwin in his tenure being innovative @Sir Why You Little? ps... of course he is on notice, don’t make the finals and he is gone... I would suspect. but there is always a threshold of how long is enough for a coach/leader to be in a position of leadership before ‘expectations’ of others make the position untenable - vs the reality of the situation of where things are really at. historians of the game, was it 6,7,8 or 9 years that Hardwick (as merely one point of reference) had?- Welcome to Demonland Bailey Laurie
I didn’t need to tell you. You and the lads on here who frothed over 2018 who cannot quite reconcile 2019 and 2020 and the various reasons beyond ‘coaching’ that got in the way of your version of success for those years (whilst new peoplE were employed in new roles like all Fd’s across The Comp) and then put it down merely at Goodwins feet as though simplistically he is at fault and the only factor at play here. you lapped up 2018’as he and the FD were innovative - it was thrilling, exciting and that doesn’t happen by chance, and nor was the downward trajectory or 2020’s performances by chance either so what I’m saying @Pickett2Jackson is that I think Goodwin is the right coach for the playing group based on evidence and understanding the constraints that have impinged on our performances rather than simply (simplistically) lumping it at One cog in the systems feet. seems the FD and operational dept have also seen it that way....- Welcome to Demonland Bailey Laurie
Seriously...................FFS For a bloke that pots Goodwin.... for being obstinate, and now all of a sudden the bloke (FD) is following a blueprint. It's been clear that Goodwin does things his own way, is ahead of the curve, is a student of the game (whatever cliche you want).. he is innovative and has been undone tactically. He does it his way, he follows no one...he is a [censored] student of the game (i just read over that... i am not his mother). So how can it be that he listens to no-one, has no game plan (allegedly) but follows [censored] boring trends of other teams(that win matches). Goodwin has a list that is currently 3 years ahead of the competition (just like all you [censored] on here who want success now, with the 'list we have' because its good enough)... just like Hardwick was 3 years ahead of the rest of the competition...before they started winning flags...and before anyone (media, competition, pundits could spot it). therefore its not quantifiable, in the ways that we prefer.. for the @Sir Why You Little's and @Kent'S out there, who have no more excuses that have said the same $hite for decades as if their happiness in life depends on it. He clearly IS NOT building a team like Richmond, if you cannot see that... god help you. yep hump day beers in me...- Simon's pass mark for 2021?...
FMD - whats with the folk on here that bang on about 'no excuses'. Is Yze God? Is WIlliams the Messiah Is Goodwin, Yze and Williams the Holy Trinity. Unless I am mistaken, there are 17 other teams who have changed their FD structures, improved their lists (as much as they can) and are all aiming for the same things....chasing, hunting, whatever effing vernacular you want. Top 8 is a pass, Top 4 is more than satisfactory....and then you just hope you don't bow out in straight sets.- New Head of Strength & Conditioning
I agree, but I just don't think he is stubborn... I really really dont.. thats not how I see it.- New Head of Strength & Conditioning
Aside from techniques working on the individuals schemas, and the notion of 'experiential avoidance' (i can explain more if you are interested) - I would hope that overall the psych and coaches are working on ways of creating a safe psychological space (a la @Earl Hood reference earlier about Richmond) for players to take risks and make errors., which actually creates competence under stress and a greater ability to execute difficult actions, time and time and time again, so that then they don't become difficult (eg: grand finals) Too much of the time supporters see players laughing and interpret it as 'they don't care'... It's about stress reduction to get back more quickly to focus on task.- Ice baths...are they really that good?
- Ice baths...are they really that good?
It seems to me that, in that quote, or the methodology pushed by coaches on the 50's -early 2000's - there is the clear link between the 'healing properties' of ocean air as was the norm in Victorian England spa/beach towns, and the myths that get perpetuated as the accepted norm/practice. Mind you, I live on the beach and there is no doubt anecdotally and scientifically about it from a mental health sense. Actually to go a bit further, it's not merely accessing the beach/bush/natural landscape, it's about your 'connection' to it.- Ice baths...are they really that good?
