  1. Well well well, I always thought @Sir Why You Little was acting like a 12 year old. BUT it turns out he is ahead of the curve and subversively requesting colonialist names be removed, nicely researched @Diamond Jim
  2. Perhaps I/we are getting caught up in our version of meaning and semantics. You can act individually AND still operate within a teams set of rules. We know that fairness is not sameness (ie: treating everyone exactly the same, contingent on their life context), and it takes a mature organisation to do that, whilst ensuring that the masses within the team who adhere to team rules are treated fairly () understand why said person is being treated differently (individually). God...hope that makes sense :) We could choose to contrast Dusty and his best mate for a while at Richmond (i think Dan OConnor??) who was sent packing fairly quickly, there no doubt, will be certain thresholds that need to be met whilst complying to cultural expectations. A bit of FIFO there (fit in or [censored] off) Ron's statement speaks volumes... As a 'manager' what is your threshold before you go... I can't be stuffed managing this bloke anymore and from a broader org perspective... what are the implications for everyone else, if we keep having to manage this blokes 'stuff' in the same way...and when do we cut and run. You can be an individual - because essentially everyone always is. Perhaps we are saying the same thing... Post script @Ohio USA - David - I thought I would add you in, as I respectfully disagree with the statement that there is no room for individualism. There is so much nuance in people that there needs to be room for it - as we are dealing with people... who inherently ARE individuals. It's about the thresholds of what is tolerable (from a cultural perspective). From a performance perspective, it also leverages each individuals 'strengths' to fit into your ideal team structure, whilst manipulating it slightly for person to person (which to me speaks of 'having room to incorporate individualism). I dunno.. maybe it's a simple as Do you compel people to fit your philosophy because YOU know best or Do you fit your philosophy to people, to help them be their best?
  3. mmmm... he still plays within a system, still confirms to cultural expectations of the organisation.
  4. it's actually demonland confirmed @Patches O’houlihan
  5. kids and their fan-dangled 'hip' sayings... I've just turned 40 and I can't decipher it!! ?
  6. Because if we don't attract the cream of the crop annually, it means my life is worthless...
  7. Good gag champion.... Seriously, what sort of person puts this comment on a forum? Belittling, a human, (not even to their face) because they've given the best and the current context of an elite football club, has told their services are no longer required, because now, and finally, there are others to take his place. Like, you could have just kept it within your prejudiced household... but your need to display it publicly, is it for humour? Like a [censored] house Dad joke? Or is it to confirm with others you've never met that they agree with you that a) he was useless but really b) I wish we had more skilled players than a particular bloke we recruited with good intentions, but ill call him useless because my club disappoints me and he is an easy one to target?
  8. Got some beer snorted out my nose these evening (no not nose beers) Who does this Joker think he is? I want a list of all Demonlanders that would agree we are a 'big Vic club'? Not one [censored] soul.
  9. It has been told, by a friend of a friend of a friend, that Brodie, Tex, (best mate) Jake, Roo and Goody go for beers frequently in Glenelg circa xmas time. As seen with a range of players that have been brought in, connections go back to junior days, friendliness and kindness happen external from the clubs walls, if you've had an eye on someone for a long time. Just take my wife and I...yadda yadda yadda....
  10. I don’t know enough about Brodie Smith, but if he is a walk up start to a half back role, then are we assuming either Salem and/or Rivers are likely to have different roles in 2021 further up the ground (ie: delivering into the f50)
  11. I love language, and how it influences people and their emotions. So, the marketing department have gone with an often used phrase 'To Hell and Back' for a title of a video, that shows in great depth the back ground workings of a team, who want to connect with supporters that they are doing their best (not really for the supporters, but for themselves). By using this phrase, the marketing team have unwittingly provoked supporters into believing that the intention with this phrase was that the team was in no doubt of getting back in to finals at a minimum this year. If they went with the phrase 'To Hell." would the response from some folk be different? Choosing to be angry, disappointed, (entitled??) because of a mere word, is...well... [censored] hilarious. Look beyond the title and look at the content. Nothing strange as folk they say, nothing strange as folk...
  12. Could someone with Twitter post to Swamp, whether 3 stretchers in a GF is a recent record?
  13. Norm [censored] smith right there lads and ladies.
  14. A certainty against the Dees.
  15. I thought it was weird they played 'Time' from Dark Side of the Moon once the coin was tossed....
  16. Thought I'd self reference myself and say that Sam Menegola playing on the wing for the Dee's was something I said we should aim to do around 3 years ago. Lo and behold, here he is doing that for the cats (finally)... and playing really bloody well.
  17. How you tracking at 2 hours before the bounce @DubDee, all facilities? Or comatose?
  18. Yeah, you kind of are missing something. There is an understanding in the current game that because of the team defensive systems being so strong, that it's not possible to mark it every time. Often it's 3 on one, 3 on 3 ,5 on 3 in the defensive favour. Due to the lack of space and time, it's rare you get a one on one consistently... I presume you have seen that in recent years. So, if this is all true, then bringing the ball to ground in favour of your other forwards is a skill.
  19. What's the evidence he doesn't listen? Seriously.
  20. [censored] wedged that one in...didnt ya ?
  21. One eyed bloke... essentially we spoke with him via zoom (a week ago).. will do a medical. and then drifted off onto other afl scuttlebut.
  22. zzzzzzz (snore) zzzzzzoooommeeting are we there yet? Ben Brown meets with Melbourne a post script: on a side note, I often talk about whether the organisation fits YOUR culture vs whether you fit the culture of an organisation. I find it rather saddening/hilarious that the 'story' that is put in the media (if it is true re: the treatment of Ben Brown and his family after the death of a child) is that the club are choosing to offload him. It clearly should be he is walking away from a culture that was unsupportive of his context, and from that the relationship was unrepairable.
  23. Hey @Skuit. Don't you love it when you start a 'legit' thread, and people pop up with superfluous posts...
  24. Thanks @old dee for reminding me that when people watch the same thing, the interpretation can be markedly different. Perhaps it's a generational thing. Bringing other players into the game.. .not being selfish, they're all attributes of the modern day player.
