  1. Yeah, you kind of are missing something. There is an understanding in the current game that because of the team defensive systems being so strong, that it's not possible to mark it every time. Often it's 3 on one, 3 on 3 ,5 on 3 in the defensive favour. Due to the lack of space and time, it's rare you get a one on one consistently... I presume you have seen that in recent years. So, if this is all true, then bringing the ball to ground in favour of your other forwards is a skill.
  2. What's the evidence he doesn't listen? Seriously.
  3. [censored] wedged that one in...didnt ya ?
  4. One eyed bloke... essentially we spoke with him via zoom (a week ago).. will do a medical. and then drifted off onto other afl scuttlebut.
  5. zzzzzzz (snore) zzzzzzoooommeeting are we there yet? Ben Brown meets with Melbourne a post script: on a side note, I often talk about whether the organisation fits YOUR culture vs whether you fit the culture of an organisation. I find it rather saddening/hilarious that the 'story' that is put in the media (if it is true re: the treatment of Ben Brown and his family after the death of a child) is that the club are choosing to offload him. It clearly should be he is walking away from a culture that was unsupportive of his context, and from that the relationship was unrepairable.
  6. Hey @Skuit. Don't you love it when you start a 'legit' thread, and people pop up with superfluous posts...
  7. Thanks @old dee for reminding me that when people watch the same thing, the interpretation can be markedly different. Perhaps it's a generational thing. Bringing other players into the game.. .not being selfish, they're all attributes of the modern day player.
  8. [censored] me man, that is totally disrespectful. Where is the evidence that he coasts? What are his 'non coasting' benchmarks? Have you set personal benchmarks that you know he can reach, but you haven't let him know? Are you in a role within the AFL and you know what he should be hitting and how he trains, and then how that corresponds to his benchmarks? If that is the case, can you please detail them below, so I can assess him with more accuracy please. Thanks in advance.
  9. What does delivering look like? This is Tom Lynch over his career... For some reason the screenshot of C.Dixon and T Hawkins wasn't allowed on here... Anyways... maybe I'm being sensitive a bit, but its tough being a forward now isnt it? (with a nod to bruce) 2 goals a game is Coleman territory , and that's when you're team CAN deliver the ball pretty consistency into the forward line. He had done that earlier this season in a shortened version of the game.. certainly gave off a few as well Weid will/is tracking to be a fine player... next year is not make or break for him. postscript: sorry @Pickett2Jackson, i see you were supporting him, now that i re-read it.
  10. Stop shaming the bloke for being himself... If he was in the Red and Blue, you'd be praising him, Many moons ago, the great Ben Harper in 'Burn one down' sang, "if it's causing no harm, it shouldn't bother you".... I'd concur. Yep... the moral police is here on a Monday.
  11. And, do it in an Alan Partridge voice...
  12. So, if they get Smith, does that support the view, that they think Baker is expendable? Or that merely comparably to Smith for the next two years, Smith out performs him, whilst Baker improves his consistency?
  13. Brilliant stuff @Axis of Bob Looking at this there are only 2 conclusions that can be made about Goodwin and his coaching philosophy either a) Goodwin is light years ahead of the curve and so inventive that it isn't paying off... yet (think Einstein genius) b) Goodwin is trying to work a system against all the perceived wisdom of what actually works (think Nikola Tesla, 'crazy genius' that gets unrewarded).
  14. Very fair analysis there @Skuit. He [censored] owes 'us'.
  15. Oh, I though Jack Darjeeling might have been on our radar... I'll see myself out...
  16. It's interesting @Pollyanna - I read what you said as 'no team is' therefore Weiderman won't help us 'contend'. I still (as the eternal optimist) would rather persist with Weid, rather than Brown, so that when he is 25 and onwards, we as a club have a reign of 5 mother [censored] years at the top...alongside the refinemient of a range of game plans and players that help us get there. #Weidainttheproblem.
  17. I initially had Harley for the emotion behind it... but as things now stand..etc etc. @spirit of norm smith I concur re: Trent Rivers goal as well. And Trac's against the Saints. Did Oliver not kick one not dissimilar to his a few years ago re: Adelaide?
  18. Maybe he just wants a quieter life... like the CEO who becomes a plumber. Actually, I've never met a former CEO who has become a plumber...has anyone??
  19. Hi @Lord Travis, thanks for your observations. It sounds as though you regularly watch junior/colt level games? Is that correct? Whilst I'm permanently an optimistic person on players (I'm still waiting for Matthew Bate to become the next Lance Whitnall)...I wonder if through all your watching of junior games, whether we have drafted players, that have actually come on better than you expected? Which for me means, from your perspective, can players can develop skills moreso then what their junior output and their first and second season output shows on evidence.
  20. What absolutely magic objective reasoning.
  21. Ahhh, you know where I live :)
  22. I agree with you @Demon3 - nonetheless, if we get their first pick (39, or whatever) Mahoney will be perceived as weak and the club has been bent over by some legendary posters on here.
  23. It's an interesting topic. Is a player bigger than other personnel or dynamics at a club? Does Oliver's alleged interest in leaving mean personnel or other things are shifted to suit one (very bloody good) player? Philosophically I would hope not, he (as everyone is) is merely but a cog in a wheel... Emotionally though, hmmmmm... Just spent the last 3 hours at the beach, now have an 8% beer in hand... how good are Monday's on leave ?
  24. Thanks for sending that on @Hannibal Inc., I for one thought a lot of his goals were either pin point passes or 'staged' free kicks. Clearly not the case. Good to have your reality updated every now and again...
  25. I get that this notion is a personal and lived experience for folk... AND as AFL clubland is full of this sort of schtick, he should have known and acted this way since he was 18... ie: it's not a new realisation. Ugh, that's unfair on Jack - Jack probably already knows this.. its about the demonstrations of it - he is amazing physically on the field... not sure in other areas however...perhaps that what he is delineating?
