One of my favourites, have always been a fan. And he is only 26, seems to have been around forever. He has at least 5 years left. It really was comically handled by Carlton. An absolute steal.

I can't believe they are trying to peddle the last touch rule, it's like they forgot how shambolic it was when they already trialled it in the NAB Cup a couple of years back. "But soccer do it, and basketball do it"...please, give me a spell. In none of these sports can you easily, or even legally, score directly from their respective out of bounds rules.

On paper he seems a pure back up for the main ruck spot ie Gawn. But who knows what the coaches have in mind. He came in and played a lot of the game against Geelong last year as a forward while Gawn was having a field day, and somehow it worked. On that day at least.

With the 6 day turnaround and our young side, I think the outs will be come from younger players who are sore or need a rest. With Petracca, ANB and Oliver all warranting selection, it is certainly going to be an interesting team named on Thursday night.

I feel like Richmond came out and tried to rough us up. Their selections pointed towards that and there were a few scuffles early. Thing is, if nothing else, we have some real brutes in our side and it played into our hands. I think they tried to target the likes of Salem, but I think they underestimated the fact that he, and others, would more then stick up for themselves.

This is semi-related, but did anyone watch Bounce after the game on Fox Footy? I have noticed this year that Fox Footy in particular are being so over the top in their praise for the umps and rule changes, and I saw something a bit odd last night. Chief does a segment called "beef of the week" or something like that, and he had a go at Tom Hawkins for looking bewildered when a free was paid against him for holding the ball and "not making a genuine attempt" even though he never took possession and the opponent just held the ball against him. If that was paid against a Melbourne player, I would have been ropable. Did anyone else see this? Am I wrong in thinking the Tomahawk was stiff to have the free paid against him, and then even stiffer for those idiots to take the [censored] out of him about it?

Howe just wouldn't fit in with this current team. He is not a competitor. It was obvious we weren't too worried about him leaving, and I think you can see why when you look at the make up of the current side.

I love this thread. Would be good if all new additions were added to the OP. We could have a great library by the end of his career. The Maverick Weller Hall of Fame.

These are my thoughts. ANB surely in the mix as well as he shouldn't be punished for being the emergency.

Viney would have to have 9 votes you would think, although who knows what the umps think. It wouldn't surprise me if they gave 3 votes to Tyson.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 5
Forest Demon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 Viney - what a second half, was absolutely amazing, which makes it 3 x BOGs so far by my count 5 Gawn - awesome first half where he was everywhere 4 Tyson - contemplated giving him 6 because he was god for 4 quarters, but couldn't ignore the sheer impact of the above 2 3 Garlett - one of my favourites, took his chances and and makes defences nervous 2 Kent - that is now a consistent 3 week block where he has impacted games throughout, rather than just small cameos 1 McDonald - cut off so many attacks with some great intercept marking, but was let down by some poor disposal -
The aggression and attitude was my favourite thing about tonight's win. Especially Viney because he backs it up attacking the footy. What a player.

Wagner has absolutely shocked me the last fortnight. So composed.

Jack Viney's square off on Rance

Some serious mongrel out there tonight, and I absolutely loved it. -
Oh god yes

What the hell is this? What a shocker of a game.

MFC 2016 Membership - Record Broken. Next stop: 40,000
Forest Demon replied to Lucifers Hero's topic in Melbourne Demons
And those blazers weren't going to pay for themselves -
I think he did one last week in public didn't he? Which did seem a bit odd. As much as I want to see Petracca debut, I don't want him at the expense of Garlett. He is one of our most important players.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 5, 2016
Forest Demon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Pedersen, Kennedy and Garlett certainties from that bench, barring not injury. Comes down to Petracca and Hunt and I suspect they will go Hunt. -
Happy we seem to be generating more Inside 50s (or at least better in terms of differential). I remember in previous years, even when we had good weeks, we were always beaten in the inside 50s, and we relied on a better conversion once inside 50 to get the job done. Looking at those stats from the North game just makes me shake my head that we didn't win that game. We were the better team all day, dominated all the stats except for the one that counts. 17 more clearances!!! That is amazing against Goldstein and a solid midfield.

AFL 360 asks if Melbourne can make the 8?
Forest Demon replied to Ron Burgundy's topic in Melbourne Demons
4 pages on this?? I was watching it, and I thought the laugh was more about the fickle nature of people's opinions. Two weeks ago we lose to Essendon, and then win one game and all of a sudden they are being asked if we will make the 8. Hardly controversial, or incorrect. We need to put together a larger body of work before we expect people to take us seriously as a finals contender. -
NRL already has golden point (which they use in the normal season as well). Last year's grand final went to golden point and was one of the all time great grand finals.
-
Next point wins? Is that genuinely for real? Why not next goal? Other than that is a much overdue common sense decision to scrap the replay.
-
Nice find. I also found Hamish's comments about the Pies taking him very interesting, considering he was such a bolter. I remember people saying at the time that we should have just rookied him, but I guess that would answer why we picked him in the 50's.

I think his last 2 weeks have been pretty solid, but I still feel like he is capable of more. Last year against GWS in the final round was a good example of what he is capable of, where he just impacted the game so much. Even as it stands at the moment, if he plays like he has for the last 2 weeks, with the odd big game like that one against GWS, then he is a more than handy player, but I just think he can be better.
