If wet, the Viney out hurts, but 3 of the ins in Trengove, Oliver and VDB should all be suited to wet weather footy. Oliver especially, with his clean hands and ability to win clearances, could be made for it.

Reading between the lines, the coaches don't think he has adapted to the new defensive structures, and they would prefer blood OMac. I strongly disagree with that though.

Love watching players who walk out on struggling clubs lose to them, ala Lachie Henderson if Carlton hold on

Carlton's pressure is first class

Maybe I didn't speak too soon. I might just shut up now.

Spoke too soon

Geelong have started terribly against Carlton. Absolutely butchering the footy. Cripps is comfortably one of my favourite non Dees, such a gun.

[censored] comparison. Tyson was poor today no doubt, but has no resemblance as a player to toumpas whatsoever. It's a lazy sledge.

Agree to disagree, but he was also under heavy attention from Boak. And was a lot busier than our other mids.

The "They're out here" Get Rid of the Zone Defence Thread
Forest Demon replied to Forest Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
We aren't setting ourselves up for success if we are relying on dominating the clearances. It might work against Brisbane and a few other poor contested ball teams. As soon as a side matches us in the middle they just score far too easily. It isn't working and we seem to have no plan B, but at the same time, I am somewhat happy to play the long game if that is the way it needs to be. -
The "They're out here" Get Rid of the Zone Defence Thread

Exactly. I am not trying to say lets go back to man on man, but we have to be able to change it up from week to week, or within games, if we want to play finals. If they think we need to learn it for long term gain, then maybe fair enough. But this ain't working at the moment, clearly. As I said, as soon as it meets any resistance, we just get scored against far too easily. -
I am as frustrated as anyone but that is possibly the dumbest post I have read on here. He was one of our best today.

The "They're out here" Get Rid of the Zone Defence Thread
Forest Demon replied to Forest Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't want to act like an expert and say lets do this of that. But whatever we have done from the St Kilda game onwards...let's not do that. Any ok side have had there way with it. -
I am going to wake up in a cold sweat to Brad Johnson's voice in my head saying "they're out here". How many times when they got the ball did they just waltz it down uncontested to other end. We look far too easy to score against. Players free left, right and centre and it seems to take a miskick or a miraculous defensive effort to stop the goal. I understand we are trying to learn, but I want to play finals this year and something has to change defensively. And this isn't a dig at the defenders exclusively, more a team wide defensive structure that isn't working against any half decent side.

Zone/Diamond Defence....Unsubscribe

What an inspiring start to the second half. We are cooked.

Carried too many passengers in that half like Kent and Kennedy to name two. Need to seriously crack in this second half. This zone defence is shittin me. I know we need to learn it, but it really is heart in mouth stuff every time they get the ball. I almost think it removes accountability and allows half hearted jogging around, unlike playing on a man.

Exactly, with a name like Neville, who needs a nickname.

AFL need to look into Rhys Mathieson!

Something has to be done. It is directly costing teams goals and seems to be getting of hand. Lindsay Thomas is a disgraceful player. -
Who do you want to beat the most?

North, Essendon, North, Hawthorn and bloody North. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 10
Forest Demon replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Who on earth was that Freeman bloke who came in for the Lions last week and was clunking them like Wayne Carey? Luckily he couldn't kick straight. Week after week, opposition tall forwards get a hold of us. I'm expecting a third stringer like Paul Stewart to have a big one. We really need this defence to start clicking and a lift from TMac, back to last year's form, if we want to play finals this season. -
Gawn would be licking his lips to play this week I would imagine.

Oliver is being criminally underrated in the Rising Star. I would have him ahead of Petracca so far, who has just firmed as the favourite, while Oliver wasn't even mentioned in the 5 or 6 names I heard mentioned on the radio.

Funny you say that. I am actually getting a little bit annoyed at the constant referral to our inconsistency by commentators. We are pretty much the youngest side in the comp, yet have only had one shocker (Essendon) and one poor performance (St Kilda) in 9 games. If you compared that to the consistency of other young sides, it actually would stack up pretty well. St Kilda fluctuate far more than us, Brisbane fluctuated big time at the start of the year and are just downright horrible now.

I edited the OP to add in yesterday's game. Hopefully this thread can fade away over the next year or so. Remarkably, our only 2 wins as favourites under Roos have come against Brisbane. Yesterday was a lot more convincing than last year however.
