  1. Hilarious comparison, given one is a patient player that can stand still in traffic, evade a tackle with a sidestep then find a pin point target in space, while the other is a bull that tries to blast through tackles or mongrel it forward without care. One is planned to be the successor to Clarko, who's midfield coaching was said to be one of the defining factors in West Coasts premiership, while the other can barely string a sentence together.
  2. It wouldn't be too bad a suggestion for next year, but only if Jordan Lewis could remote control his leg movements from the coaches box.
  3. Although he has the nous to be able to carve out a Dustin Fletcher inspector gadget skinny armed career with his ability to read the drop of the ball and spoil. Here's to hoping he lasts just as long. I reckon his kicking has probably (and hopefully temporarily) lost that 5% distance due to the leg injuries, and his instinct is probably miscalculating an ability to hit that pin point target.
  4. Why would you expect a belting? Is it psychological padding for the fade-out losses so they're more honourable? We haven't been belted all year. We do however repeat the same performance over and over where we're in the game for a few quarters (doing well) before falling away in the 3rd or last because of turnovers or poor inside 50 conversion. Irrespective of whether it's Richmond or St Kilda, the result is the same. At least our forward line has seen some improvement and converted a little more accurately though these past two weeks. Tonight was an extremely predictable game that I expected would mirror our earlier match against the Tigers. We'd take it up to them until they wore us down and kicked away. No shame in the performance, but i don't think absence of players, umpires, or the weather had anything to do with losing the game. They would've kicked away, like they did last year. We still have to make some big off-season changes to our personnel imo. 3 or 4 ready to go players on each line and playing 1 or 2 draftees and then i would guess that wed still probably be 1 more elite midfielder away from contending very deep in the finals, which also might mean another years development could see Oliver fill that need by excelling another level. Have seen some positive signs with the way we've been slowing up the game and switching, so i'm remaining positive too.
  5. I don't care how old they are, but we need to recruit a senior KPF next year, even if they're depth. If by miracle, we're contending next year but Weid or Tmac get injured, we can't rely on T. Smith to play more than 1 or 2 games in a row. There goes any forward line chemistry and we're back to being scored ridiculously easily on the forward half turnover. Anyone that wouldn't take Jenkins or even Westhoff for a couple of years over having T. Smith and Keilty alone in reserve is absolutely kidding themselves.
  6. Am I the only one thinking this will be the mirror image of the last time we met? Like all of our double up matches where we don't really learn a thing and repeat the same mistakes, however much captain crash n bash would like to talk about how we're learning from the year (SEN today) We'll shut up shop, flood back all game with no one to kick to forward and avoid a massive embarrassing prime-time loss as the Tigers keep a 12-24 point margin for most of the game, before kicking away in the last quarter after we "excitedly" get to within 1 goal. We'll of course never really have been in the contest.
  7. Anyone wondering if the Alex Keath rumours might possibly be linked to Frosty being unsigned at present? COuld be traded for one another.
  8. Not an expert either, just googled the calculator: https://www.draftguru.com.au/pick-value-calculator
  9. I think it depends where you value Hill. Just did the points equiv calculator and for that to be an even trade, Brad Hill is valued at pick 6. So 6+7 for 2+20. He might be worth that much to us, but he was traded for what, pick 23* sorry or so in 2016? Surely he is now around a pick 10-15? But given Noah Anderson is touted to be a superstar, you just can't do it. If GCS get PP and we end up with pick 3, then it might be worth doing. But you'd want another Freo pick coming back. I reckon i'd still prefer the 2020 first round pick gamble. Back ourselves to move up the ladder and maybe ask for Freo's 2nd round pick in return to cushion against disaster. Personally if we're down the bottom of the ladder next year then i''m probably out, cant follow the club anymore, selfish as it is. So why not go the next years pick (for my benefit in the short term)
  10. Was listening to the Hard Ball Gets podcast with Xavier Ellis, who is a bit of a C*** towards the Dees. But none the less, he's still pretty knowledgeable on all clubs and players. They were doing a segment called Pretenders to Contenders and you had to make 1 big afl-shaking type of trade that could shift your clubs fortunes, going through each club that is a level/or a few below being in contention currently. It was off the cuff and people would scoff at it, but he threw up Tom McDonald for Rory Sloane as an example. His reasoning was, even though our forward line is a mess, he did not rate our midfield very highly even at the beginning of the year and thinks we need an elite midfielder in there with Rory Sloane being a level above all of our current players, even at the age of 30. And Adelaide of course need a forward hence the trade. Tom Mac was just an example of the quality needed to get it done, but you could use picks instead to get a deal done. And it doesnt have to be Sloane. Could be any player of a high calibre. Eg The dogs did it with Tom Boyd, and trading their captain ryan griffen Even with all of the issues over at Adelaide, i'd still doubt that a captain is gettable, but stranger things have happened even with captains. So anyway. Maybe a discussion could be had on the topic of "Pretenders to Contenders" and MFC luring an elite midfielder (or forward/defender) out of left field to join us.
  11. And Goody would finally recruit some 1 year hail mary's that turn out to be guns. Tippa v2 yes please.
  12. 2020 first round pick for Hill, and a late pick 2019 coming back. The late pick salary is 70k. There's 200 saved already. I'm not saying we should move Jones on, and creative accounting as you mentioned is preferable. But i'm just illustrating the difference between telling a club legend to move to another club if they want two years or more money for one year, is preferable than paying any amount of money that hinders acquiring talent we have our sights set on. And if we're going to be outbid on Hill, then you have to question why we'd want Jones for another year in the first place, given it frees up more money to Hill. If we made offers for Gaff mid year last year when we thought Hogan was staying, it means we do have a certain amount left over up that is't tied up on planned contracts/extensions of our other core players. So I don't think we necessarily have to move on Brayshaw to acquire Hill.
  13. Suddenly even the 260,000 for Jones looks not even worth bothering about, loyalty aside, if it means we miss out on Hill to the Saints. And the difference between us and the Hawks looks even starker, given what they're willing to do to bring elite talent into the door.
  14. Asked about him over on /r/afl and got this response: I'm not sure we'd want to match what they'd ask for a 19 year old pick 12, given we have immediate needs for a big bodied physical presence in the forward line if Weid/Tim Smith are still in/out of the squad. No way would i want to use pick 20 this year or 20-30 next year on anyone but a 23-25 year old potential gun.
  15. So nothing new since the last month? btw thats behind a paywall
  16. Over on reddit/bf Greewood is a gun mark too. Jenkins could be a bullocking kpf when happy, despite his detractors. Fogarty also an excellent mark, Betts might have a year left in him as a small forward and rumours of Keith and the Dees asking about him. Rich pickings (if at all true)
  17. https://www.fiveaa.com.au/shows/david-and-will/Seven-Adelaide-Crows-Players-Want-OUT-At-The-End-Of-The-Year Not sure on the validity of this, but perhaps there could be some Adelaide players available come October.
  18. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-2019-carlton-could-potentially-provide-an-afl-lifeline-to-eddie-betts/news-story/5fd13cfde92658fad5a7d6e7c8d743a7 " With a lack of small forwards at the club, the Blues have been linked to Sydney’s Tom Papley and Richmond’s Liam Baker." Papley, Baker, Betts - Surely we can nab one of them. Sorry for digging up old threads Mods, but as far as i'm concerned, it's trade week already. And i'm sure someone else also gets kicks out of reading threads from years ago.
  19. There's nothing wrong with the recipe, we just had staff shortages at the manufacturing plant this year!
  20. We may as well test Darren Burgess ceiling while we're at it, as he rebuilds the clubs fitness in the off-season. Maybe the bloke works miracles. Even if we "bounce back" next year, we're still going to missing these types of match-winning pieces that push other clubs into the very upper echelon. The Rioli's will still be licking their lips at the prospect of hunting down our one dimensional players next year, even if we rise. While down the other end, we have no livewires that can turn the momentum of a game off the back of a few efforts.
  21. Different scenario, but you only have to look at how Jake Stringer is playing to realize the potential upside or high ceiling of taking on a player with his fair share of issues that could make them lost to the game, and getting it right. Goody is way too safe for it though.
  22. https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-07-30/bennell-finds-new-calf-guru-successful-surgery-identifies-nerve-issue Giving Harley Bennell 1 year > Giving Harley Balic 1 year
  23. Good team, but I reckon we're one KPF/3rd tall short and I don't think we can rely on T.Smith/Keilty to replace Weid on injury or form. Should be looking to recruit another senior forward that can currently play more consisntently better than Weid can, but should be surpassed in 2 or so years. As a KPF or 3rd tall. I don't have Joel Smith in the team. Player like Essendon have with Shaun McKernan or Mitch Brown. I've said it before but if Josh Jenkins is gettable on a 2 year dael you'd grab him and have him in there. Who else? Richmond had Caddy playing tall in 2017 and he cant get into the their team. Mind is drawing blanks right now Edit: Also need a livewire crumber which if we're being realistic, we could obtain with your Isaac Smith pick, and play Baker on the other wing.
