I am back from the pub liquored up (drank more when we got more than 20 points down and am pretty sleepy)and my drunken observations are as follows: - Grimes will captain this club - I believe in Rivers again, he is relishing the role of a leader. - Maric might live up to the hype that surrounded him on draft day - Jack Watts need a hug, he is better than he thinks - Jake Spencer looks like Napoleon Dynamite - Evans could be more than a player - Bartram is becoming very important, and looks to have improved on his foot skills somewhat - Greeny struggled to lift when needed, hopefully a teething thing for the new skipper - I think my wife may leave me for Dunn, that moe is hall of fame worthy. Need to go to bed now.

We will see. I wouldn't be racing out to the TAB to back them into the top 8 just yet. Plenty of testing times lay ahead for the gc17 group. It is not like they have been playing together for seasons. This is a pretty green group that will have to blend together as a unit. They will win games and won't be an easy beat, but I can hardly see them playing finals this season.

Exciting for the game to have another potential game breaker like Jurrah in the comp. If this Stevens fellow can up his game to Liams level, it will be dynamite to watch the two go head-to-head.

Bruce's departure + a strong 2011 season = contract extension for Joel. I would not have thought 6 months ago that he would become such a required player, but until the likes of Morton, Blease and co can pin down a regular spot, Joel stays a required player at the club.

Overhyped?? If we don't make the top 8 then you will need to name 8 teams that will be ahead of us. Making that list is a lot tougher than accepting the dees should finish 8th this season. The Hype will come and is catching on, but the dees are not overhyped just yet (all you need to do is throw the "demons" around the water cooler to know there are still a large amount of opposition supporters who think this club/team is poo). There is a lot of noise about them this season, and it is only going to get louder as the pressure and expectations grow. They have a top 8 list now, but it all boils down to whether this top 8 list can be a top 8 team.

GWS can only stake a claim on one player. If they wish to throw $$$ at someone else they will have to compensate us. I think it is fair to say we will lose one, but as for the other 20 odd that are not in contract next season, the majority of required players will be back, just with slightly higher pay packets. Too early to stress about such things. Just sit back and enjoy this season. Good things are coming.

Scully is younger than Jurrah, and still has a heap of development to go. If I had to choose right now - Jurrah. In 2/3 years time Scully could be better, but there are no guarantees.

I think given the dees goal of 40k members they will take the NAB cup fairly seriously this year. Personally I couldn't care less. I paid for my member ship months ago. But from the clubs standpoint I think there is much to prove, and I would not be surprised if the Dees were one of the last 4 clubs standing if they take it seriously. Many clubs won't.

Could not think of a better character for a new club. Congrats to JNR and I hope they take good care of him. I can see JNR moving into the asst coaching ranks in the near future.

Forget the jumper, the only thing I noticed in that pic was that Steph Martin was a good 2 feet higher than the all australian ruckman of 2010. Did he get springs put in during the offseason?

So Morton has put on 6kgs? Great news. Hopefully he body (and mind) will be right so he can live up to the hype that surrounded him when he was drafted. Gary Lyon still gushes over him, so he has got the goods. Hopefully the 6kgs doesn't slow him, i doubt it would.

Bad luck for Juice. He really needed a solid pre-season to give him a good chance at playing at this level. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery and can make the most of his rookie spot.

A wife, young kids can change the priorities of a young man. When these things come along the all mighty dollar speaks awfully loudly.... I would love him to retire a one club player, but money talks and he is yet to hear what is has to say at this point in his career. Fingers crossed the chance to grow with his peers will be enough to keep our young guns in red and blue.

I like to wear a cap at the game, so I fail to see how horns will help me.

If we don't push for a top 8 spot I think you will find Dean Bailey to be the whipping boy. I have been outspoken about my lack of love for Newton, but deep down I love all of the players that pull the jumper on. I only ride Newton because I think he is capable of being a solid player. What annoys me is that he has not been able to showcase his skills at the top level. I think as the club moves forward there will be more player love than hate. We seem to be cheery when we are winning.

Geez, doesn't say much on his profile. Kid is concise. With a strong indigenous culture a the club already, he will have a strong support network to grow at the MFC. Loads of promise, I hope he goes well.
