Voted Jack Darling. I know that "wrap sheet" being that he is from WA (as all WA boys seem to want to go back there) and that he has been in a sex romp, and fights and he probably has also been credited for creating the atom bomb. But lets be real. 191cm power forward who could carve the game to pieces. They do not grow on trees, and he could be that player that makes it impossible for a side to shut us down. RISK could lead to a very nice reward.

I bet Bomber fans are jumping for joy to see this list clogger finally get the chop. "Potential" is never a good enough reason to keep an injury prone player around the traps for year after year.

Outside pick #12 this draft is going to be way too difficult to call. I trust our football department to get it right, so we just need to sit back and enjoy the circus.

I think demonland should have a "Jordan McMahon" day on the anniversary of that magical goal every year. McMahon proved without a shadow of a doubt that we did not tank, we just did not have the skills to shut such a dynamic player down in the dying seconds of a game...

To be fair to the guys selected, they had a rubbish list and a shocker of a coach. They may have had different careers on a better list with a better coach. I am not saying that they did not stuff the draft up. The History books will state that the 2004 draft set the tigers back a good half decade.

I get the impression the dees will roll the dice this year and clean out the full rookie list. I think PJ and Tommy will be delisted also, with an outside chance at being re-rookied. We are coming into an period of uncertainty with uncompromised drafts and multiple clubs rebuilding. Keeping rookie spots to try and unearth a diamond in the rough is what is needed to help us find the competitive edge. We know the guys we have are not going to help us win a flag. We need to find that next Davey/Jurrah/James McDonald/Robertson/McKenzie type player. We can't do that with list cloggers on the rookie list.

Is there a ready made Hale type out there..in other comps?
Adzman replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
Reality Check: We are not going to win the flag next year, so lets roll with what we got. So why not just throw Fitzpatrick in when he is ready to go and give him a taste? Forget trying to find a "Jurrah" type prospect, that was a fluke. Even harder now that every team is looking for a ruck/forward combo, especially for cheap. Fitzpatrick might/will get smashed all of next year, but who cares when we are not really in it to win it. The year after he will be much better for the run. We did it with Watts. He did his apprenticeship this year and will have a big 2011 due to him getting a solid run. -
The cats had their time in the sun. I would take 2 flags then 10 dark years following the teams demise, because they still got to enjoy 2 f'ing flags! If the dees can win 2 flags in close succession, I will put up with 10 years of crap that will follow.

198cm and is primarily a ruckman. Has not really done anything spectacular at AFL level, but I would be keen to know if anyone has watched his VFL games. West on the rookie list could hurt Newtons chances. 23 years old this year, so still young. Hardly going to be marquee signing if it happens.

Dear Santa, If you let Travis Cloke walk out on Collingwood I promise only to ask for 3 power rangers instead of 8 power rangers. Little Timmy Seriously though, it would be awesome to see it happen. Could be a blessing in disguise for the Magpies.

All I know is that Hawthorn got the better of that trade. One of the guys at work is a hawks supporter and he was smiling from ear to ear. Don't mind that we gave Fetta a chance elsewhere, what ticks me off is that it was Hawthorn we gave the gift to. Hawthorn have been impossible to trade with, and we go and gift them Fetta for nothing. Lets just hope Fetta does not get too good. As for the dees, we now have something to do on draft day. Watch at least 2 draft selections get made!!

The most obvious deal will be players who are keen to move at any cost (not many of those left) or pre listed players that can be had in a trade via the GC (they seem to be the lowest currency for trade week and the best value at this point in time) I do not think the dees will make a deal.

Motlop can flat out play, but he does not fit our plan.

Jesse White I like. That said, if he wants a big pay day he should remain at the swans. I think the dees board have made it pretty clear to players that they will be reasonable with contract demands, but will baulk at any unreasonable offers. The footy department is building a premiership contender, and guys with questions marks over them will not be given a big pay day just because the market this year dictates they are in demand.

I heard Walker was diagnosed with a very serious condition than restricts him from reaching his full potential. It was revealed that Walker is in fact made from glass.......... Has all the skills in the world, but cannot and will not ever play 22 games again. Hardly a "must" player. Carlton will also charge more than he is worth.

At this risk if sounding unpopular, I would much prefer to have Spencer on the list for 2 years at 100k than have David Hale on our list (at the expense of pick #32) for 400k per year for 2 years.

I am not sure I get this trade at all. The ol' 2 for 1 deal means we have one less roster spot to use for draft picks. And on the topic of drafts picks, what is this business about a shuffling of picks? Better not have anything to do with a certain first rounder. Warnock fills a need for the Saints, and although I am not ripping on Eddy/Geary I do not see how either player addresses a need for Melbourne. Maybe they push for a 22 spot, but so will the kids we already have making this deal a whopping head scratcher. If Warnock is to depart I would prefer it to be for a solid draft pick, allowing us to on trade the pick for a specific need, or to draft a player to fill a specific need. Not saying this deal is bad for us, it just does not make sense.

Have to come in and bat for Meesen here because I actually attended a Casey's home games and was part of the huddles. He has a fantastic understanding of the game, and was a huge reason why so many of the kids developed their game. At quarter time and 3 quarter time he would pull players aside and dissect what what happening, then started formulating strong football tactics to help get the players back on top. If you want to slam him for his playing then that is fine, but Meesen knows more about football than anyone on this forum so how about stepping off the guys nuts for 5 minutes and give him a chance.

Haven't heard anything, but you would think given that there is going to be a good 100+ selections, not to mention the rookie draft that someone like Sketcher would get picked up. For young hopefuls wanting to play AFL, this year is your best chance of getting picked up.

ROFL! Love this. Maybe we should through our hats into the ring for Chris Tarrant just to keep Collingwood honest... Hawks will not be happy with the demons "poking" about.

In all seriousness, how many players can the GC have on their list? Below is a link to a list of players that are under contract for 2011 or will be under contract for 2011 (note, some players are players about to be selected in the National Draft). Just how many spots do they have for uncontracted players, as well as actual draft selections? So far they apparently have 34 under contract (this includes Day/Bennell/Swallow who have not been drafted yet) and still have to make a good 10+ draft selection after that. Are they building a football club or a freakin army?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Coast_Football_Club Wiki can always be a sketchy source, just interested to know how hypothetically how many players the GC team can sign for the senior/rookie lists?

With Darling at mock pick 18, it is not wild to suggest the dees will deal pick 12 for 17 in the Hale deal. Pick 17 does come with a "buyer beware" stamp, because I doubt any of the really standout kids are going to slide to pick 17. Pick 12 is more likely to land you a slider than pick 17.

Does anyone rate Jesse White of Sydney above David Hale? He is a pinch hitter in the ruck, and is rumored to be on the table during trade talks. He is a capable forward, perhaps more so than Hale. Obviously not as good in the ruck as Hale, but would cost us less to get from the Swans, and fills a need for a forward/ruckman type.
-
Brennan will cost an arm and a leg to get, and his attitude problems are well documented. I am not big on Hale either, but I would think we would have to give more to get Brennan which could turn out being an equally poor move to giving up something significant for Hale. Both Hale and Brennan come an inflated prices, at least Hale seemingly fits a "need"

For starters, I do not think we would get pick 15 for Bate. He would be a good fit at the GC given some of the holes they have, and it would be a great chance for him to reboot his career. I like Bate, and would be happy to retain him. I just get the feeling that If he cannot get going next season he will not be in our future plans. A split to a new team this trade period could do him a world of good, and it would give the dees a new pick/player to work with.
