The dees will give him a MINIMUM of 2 years. I would think given where the list is at, he would need a 3 year deal to really see where this is all heading. Dropping Bails next year isn't going to achieve a thing, even if we only notch up 6 wins. We are the MFC, not the RFC. Sacking coaches is not an annual ritual that helps a club develop. We have weathered the storm, Bails is now driving this ship to calmer waters.

Dude, no rookie spots left...... Meesen and Newton have them allocated unless they are picked up by another club. Grimes, Daw, Panos and Thorp would be nice, but we are just not in the market for rookies this year.
-
We need to uphold a strong club culture by honoring our word and retaining Meesen and Newton. I would prefer someone fresh and new, but our word is our bond and if we are to attract future players then we need to be viewed as a reliable club when it comes to player treatment and negotiations.

Given the stage we are at, you would think that younger players (Maric, Bail, and Spencer) would get another contract purely out of potential. The real worry for the other bunch is that they have had enough time to prove their worth, and if they do not have a solid 2010....well we know what happens. Bartram- Should be here in 2011, one of the few taggers we have that can run with and will be needed on a matchup basis to shutdown ball magnets. Bell- Injuries have destroyed his career, is one more injury off being cut. Has the heart to win back fans, but the odds are against him with new backline competition emerging (Fetta, Grimes) Miller- Miller is warming a seat for the next gen of forwards. If Watts, Jurrah and co can get a concrete spot in the front 6, you would think frosty might be in trouble. If not Miller will ger another year, he works hard and is a marking option so he would be retained. Mcdonald- Heart and soul of the club! Also no longer Junior. May hang up the boots, but if he has the desire to play he may go around one more time. Bruce- Will be here in 2011. No argument. Johnson- If Spencer/Gawn/Fitzy can cut in some mins in the ruck...things look bleak for Johnno. Bail- Has had a tough run with injuries, would think the club would perceiver beyond 2010 regardless just to see what they have (or havent) got. Meesen- In Big trouble, is behind Paul Johnson which is not a good place to be. Gone in 2011. Newton- Last chance......really, 2010 is it unless he can put it together. Gone in 2011 Healey- Won't get a game, gone in 2011. Spencer- Needs plenty of work, can push for a spot on the list if good in 2010, or if he takes a step back he could be sent packing with the dees taking 2 ruck prospects. Hughes- Has had plenty of chances, cut down by many injuries which will end his AFL dream. Gone in 2011.

A Guy named "MacDonald" could be handy for 5-6 years. Will be joining us very shortly. I will not write of Garland yet, sure he has been stunted by injuries, but so had Rivers who seems to be building some kind of renaissance in his mid 20s. Martin is an interesting one. I am against playing him in the ruck, and really like him as a prospect down forward or back (preferable the latter). Paul Johnson to me is not an option at CHB. Has shown glimpses down back and forward, but is a player who goes missing far too often. When you are playing one of the pillars (CHF/CHB) you need to be involved in much of the flow/play as possible to set up your team or deny your opposition. Dunn is an interesting one. He is a hard worker, just has not found his niche with the team yet. Many have given up on him, not me. I see a role for Dunn in this side if he can take his game up to the next notch. Maybe across HBF, but would be better used across HFF. Adding another prospect (Panos/Grimes) would add some nice future depth, that said I think our back 6 is looking fantastic and is one of the areas that doesn't worry me moving forward. The ruck/midfield/forwardline is what has me losing sleep at night. After this draft we may just have sorted those few areas out.

We still would have had the number one pick, and we would have taken Scully. They handed it to us by beating us and giving us the priority pick... hence the name "Jordan McMahon Draftin and trading board"
-
Hoping these Jacks turn out to be four Kings! Jurrah and Davey will always be the ace cards for this club! This list has enough talent to challenge the AFLs other teams now. Maybe, just maybe we can become elite once again.

Will be rookies 100%. sadly not with us, unless Meesen and Newton get offered a gig elsewhere. Will be a handful of good kids picked up in this years rookie draft. Panos will be on everyones radar.

Emma Quayle's Draft Review - Blog in the Age
Adzman replied to SidVicious's topic in Melbourne Demons
Steph Martin is not a ruckman, and could end up being that "extra tall" fwd/back that we needed. The truth is our midfield needs heaps of work, and with Brock exit stage left, and Macca soon to follow (retirement) the dees did the right thing picking up mids in the draft. Fitzpatrick could end up playing forward if he gets his body/game right. -
I wish we could dump these two guys. Healy is nothing special, and Hughes has had his chance. I know you can't just sack a senior listed player, but what are the rules on dumping contracted rookies? This is the final stage of the complete rebuilding process, clearing more spots, as harsh as it sounds, makes perfect sense. Is it possible to part ways after the list lodgment before the ND? If so, Healy and Hughes have to go to make room for someone who can help us win in 2011 and beyond.

That crystal ball of yours seems to work. Send me next weeks lotto numbers

This is the one guy that comes into the club with low expectations and pressure. If he can keep his CFS under control, and develop his game then the sky is his limit for him. Touted as a ruckman I get the feeling that he will be used as a ruck/forward type player, in a similar mold as Kreuzer. Gawn is the man they want to take over in the middle. Like many I was sus on this pick, but wish him the best at the MFC. Maybe he will be talked about as the big pick out of 2009 in years to come.

Maybe the Tigers can do us another favor by taking Meesen! Or is that stretching the friendship.........they did just hand us Trengove.....

NOW THAT IT'S OVER ... (revived thread from 2009)
Adzman replied to Parma's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not overly fussed we didn't get a forward. Was at the top of my shopping list until I realized we have one of the best kicks on goal in the AFL that is spending all of his time floating around the ground- Brad Green. New mids and the additional of MacDonald in the PSD may allow Green Machine to go forward with Watts and Jurrah. I think we all forget how much of a gun Greeny is. The gems of the Draft were Jack+Sculls, so if any of the other pan out then we have done well. No such thing as a sure thing in football! -
let me ask you this? Is the 2015 commodore going to be more of a classic than the VL Walkinshaw? My point is how the F%$K can you compare a kid that has just left high school and yet to don the jumper to brock Mclean? Yes, it is worth it because we get the OPPORTUNITY to get better. With Brock, we knew what we have. Gysberts could be better, and if not surely he won't be far of the mark from Brock anyways, so relaaaaaaaaaaax.
-
Would have liked a KPP, that said Taps should be able to make an impact sooner rather than later based that footage! Looks as though the dees have moved on from Brock and are rebuilding the engine room with the top 4 picks!
-
Hmmmmmm, This draft will go down in history as the draft that was "make or break". I get the impression that the dees will be moving on from Jnr Mac next year, with Bruce a few years after. Stocking up on mids is the plan as the dees plan to use Jurrah and Watts up forward. Green will finish his career down forward, so really we should be OK for forwards and backs going into 2010. I can't lie, I was shocked with pick 11,18 and 50, That said, Jordan Gysberts is one of those hard in and under players which do not grow on trees, so we have to give him a chance to show what he has got. Tapscott surprised me ahead of some KPP forwards, but is highly rated and should be solid. I am still not sold on Fitzpatrick. Pick 50 is murky though so we don't lose anything. And we needtot ease up on the Rohan Bail bashing. The dude has played 5 mins of AFL footy! Give him a season before the daggers come out.
-
They have one more year left on the rookie list before becoming VFL mainstays. Sad but true. Part of me hopes Meesen does get to PA or Hawthorn via the PSD because I think he can jump start his stalled career with an established list. Newton has the talent, but can never put it all together when it counts. Essendon could/would be a great fit for him. Both players just don't have what the Dees need to move forward, which sucks for all involved.
-
Anyone in favor of the golden "Thanks but no-thanks" handshake for Meesen and Newton? We will give you a years salary NOT to be rookie listed. Gives us two picks to rookie someone worth rookie listing. Not going to happen, but they have to realize that they will not be on the list next season anyway. Some great rookie options available with Grimes, Daw, Panos, and Patrick. Meesen and Newton have plenty of footy left, but for a rebuilding club we need guys who have a higher ceiling on the off chance we can unearth something special.
-
Don't like Fitzpatrick at 50 at all. Dees take a risk with this pick, and I think we used up all our good karma last year netting Jurrah. Maybe he will turn out to be a gun, at pick 50 who knows.
-
Bucks deserves another go, good luck to him.
-
I shed a tear after listening to all draft selections knowing that we are going to have to redraft meesen and newton via the rookie draft.

News has dried up for Meesen. Looks like he may be heading back to the MFC for 2010.
