All this really tells us is the dees have picks 1&2 locked with players, and port still is unsure who they will be taking with those picks. Obviously hard to lock picks 8 & 9 as the pick before them determine who is available, what it does tell us is that picks 1 & 2 seem to be head of the class. In an uncompromised draft we would have been stupid not to take this deal, in a draft stunted for talent I understand and support the dees holding on to the first two picks this year. I am wondering how picks 11, 18 and 34 pan out for us.

This draft is all going to be risky outside the top 20. One thing that is hard to teach a player is to BLEED for your club, and Grimes already does that. At pick 34 it is all going to be guesswork, mark my words it is going to be murky waters outside the top 20, and grimes will be there come pick 34. If he is a quality kid, the dees will already know about him and have had a long hard look. If he is on the board at 34 and we pass, you know that they know something we dont. If he is selected @ 34, the dees will eliminate some risk ,as I said earlier, they will know a bit about him already. Pick 50 being used? I would not bet on it, consider it just a number as I cannot see it being used.

Is there something wrong with our club, or are they just plain stupid? Bate, Jones, Jurrah, Petterd, Watts, Garland, Frawley and possibly Rivers & Warnock fall OOC the year the Gold Coast pillagers have the right to approach OOC players. These players are supposed to be building blocks for the future. Why have they not sat down and be asked to sign a contract extension?? We are talking about 8 keys for the future. If the GC rapists are not in the players ears about what $$$ they can offer, you can bet your life scum like Carlton and Collingwood will be. We will be over a barrell taking up Vegemite Valley if we are trying to retain 7-10 quality players.

He will get a look from a few clubs, ours won't be one of them.

Valenti will not be picked up via the PSD, even if Luke Ball doesn't nominate. Bucks is a chance, however I can see him being picked up late by Carlton in the ND of he nominates, as they are keen on him. Sad to see bucks go, but Valenti was a step too slow for AFL level and this was coming sadly. Dees will cut one more.

Is this a joke? Chris Bryan is average at best- we have enough players that "ruck" and "mark" that are average at best. How would we benefit from adding another (and older) player like this? I love the dees and get a membership each year, but if they signed Bryan I would have to think twice! NO,NO...and NO

Ball fills a need in this team, add the leadership aspect and you have a missing piece to a very unfinished puzzle. Hands down YES if he wants to come and play for the red and the blue.

Miller has been a great servant at the club, however he is warming a seat for the kids which should start to blossom during next season. Miller was signed to a one year deal because there is still a need for him in the 2010 lineup. If development takes place as we all expect, Miller would be depth at best by the start of 2011, and we will need to axe someone, Miller is fronting the 2010 delistings. If Watts & Co do not develop, Miller gets another year should he wish ton continue at the MFC, or he could also be a chance to get a longer deal elsewhere.

Jesse Smith walks out on North Melbourne
Adzman replied to Demon_Tingles's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could be worth a punt at pick 34. Outside the top 20 there are no guarantees anyway, at least we know what we get with Jesse Smith. -
Here is a curve ball for you all. What IF (and it is a big IF) Ball agreed to go into the PSD and play for the dees, and Jesse Smith made the call to nominate for the National draft? Would he last to pick 34, and is so would you want him with that pick? That was we could bring in two players with much to prove, with talent to burn. If it is a toss up between the two, hands down Luke Ball!

Got a fridge full of beer, and a couch to drink it on. Only down side is he will be playing like [censored] after drinking with me and my stupid mates! Offer is on the table! On a serious note, helping lead a rebuilding club and getting paid a nice contract should be incentive enough IMO. Beers are chilling....

If Luke ball nominates for the ND, and there are not any other QUALITY options available in the PSD (we do not have to use this pick unless there is someone worth taking), then we are only needing to shave one player. Chances of us using pick 50 are unlikely, so it could be that we only need to shave one player out of the players on the short list. If Fetta Cheney is delisted I will be very unhappy! Was a standout in 2009, and deserves a contract. McNamara has an upside, but what does he offer for 2010?? Bartram has the best engine going around and is handy in tagging roles, but this is his one skill and it can be taught to other players. Buckley has pace to burn and a body to back it up, with better disposal he could be anything. Will his disposal ever improve? As for rookie elevation it seems unfair to miss out on Spencer due to PJ and Messen taking roster spots. But contracts will not be bought out, and if he cannot be retained on the rookie list someone else can benefit from our error.

Jonathan Brown is a one in a generation player. As long as he is there they can win a flag. Voss has gambled the future to win it now, he obviously thinks the addition of these players can win them a flag, so we will see what happens. I do not rate the additions (outside Fev), but to be so active means they could fill a need that will make the team stronger. Time will tell if this was a smart move or a foolish gamble by a young coach. Bris top 4 lock next year with Fev i think.

Richmonds fringe players are not going to help us win. NO for Coughlan
-
Is smith really an upgrade on what we already have? He might turn out to be a gun, but I am less than convinced and prefer not to take on fringe players with an injury riddled past. Buckley, bartram and part of the "possible delistings co" carry less risk than smith. he ghosts you know Vs the ghosts you don't now. Pass for me.

There are a handful of players at each club hoping to get a new contract for next season. I imagine there will be a few interesting delistings, so if Ball nominates for the ND in the hope of getting to collingwood, there still may be another player or two out there that will slip through toe the PSD and be a genuine talent. I think Ball is a class act, and if fit is a premier midfielder in this comp. I agree with the masses though, only sign him if he wants to play for the club. I care not for players who care only about the pay check, I want guys who want to win us a flag! Ball appears to be a great leader and character, his signing if he wants to come here will be a massive gain for a club that severely lacks onfield leadership.

Hawthorn has a shrinking cap, they call it the "shaun buygoyne syndrome". Hawthorn have to shed salary, this trade is not surprising at all. Move a couple of depth players on to free up some cash and a roster spot for a cheap contracted kid. Good business move form the hawks, better move from the swans who were the short term winners in this deal.
-
Depends what they want in return. I do not rate everitt as highly as most, that said he is still young and can improve. For pick 34 I would look at him, but I would not part with any earlier picks.

Our trade period is tiny. try following a sport where trading is allowed for months on end. There is always speculation, but it adds some extra spice to following a team. Our AFL system is basic, shortening it will just make it a non event. Ending the trade period as quickly as possible just forces rushed deals, and doesn't give teams enough time to explore multiple options (remember things change as other trades change the landscape during the trade period. one day of trading only would not allow this to happen) Trade period is peak for the Demonland forums, people love it!

If collingwood cough up two picks (which they will if the Swannies will take it) surely that would almost rule out Luke Ball going to Collingwood? I get the impression the Swans will sit and draft instead of going after Fev. I can see Bris swinging a deal for Fev tomorrow. All I know is that Ball and Burgoyne have not officially been dealt at this stage, and either candidate still remains as a potential PSD pick up for the dees.
-
Looks like the Saints are rolling the dice in the hope they can win it all in 2010. Selling the future for a flag, hell I would be wanting us to do the same if we were in their position. Peake and Lovett add some depth, if they can keep Luke Ball or gain something solid in return then the saints will have had a successful trade week.
-
I guess the dees will be testing out their list next season in the hope that these players can be replaced. Jamar on a one year deal? Suggests that they may be looking to draft a ruckman.

I DID NOT jizz in my pants! That is worse than "iSnack 2.0"

Jurrah was not an "established player". We hit the jackpot with Liam, but it was a smokey risk that panned out. I am talking about someone you can slot in round one that can contribute from round 1, hence the use of the word "established".

Brocks departure forces the recruiters to take 2x mids with the first 2x picks. Scully and....Trengrove seem likely.
