Glad to know it is official! I look forward to finding out how the rest of the draft pans out.

History is there as a guide, not the gospel. IF we are to be great then history is to be rewritten. Take kids with 11 and 18 and see where it takes us. Luke ball is the SURE thing, but his selection does not guarantee us anything over selecting a kid at pick 11 or 18. Fortune favors the brave.

Scully an Trengove with the first 2 picks will be enough to lift our midfield. Still have a developing list so we could still see some big improvement with our current young mids. The talent will be picking up a solid mid with 1 of the remaining 3 draft selections. Pick 11 could be used on a mid. Use the final 2 picks on bigs. Needs some quality bigs asap!

AFL will have a live draft tracker for those of us like myself who do not have Foxtel. I am very interested to see what happens outside pick 5 (as the top 5 picks are concrete). I won't watch it live, having a draft tracker will do me just fine! Details of broadcast guide below. http://www.afl.com.au/fixture/broadcastgui...51/default.aspx

Meesen was a mega draft bust. That said I think tambling could be a gun at another club. Tambling was expected to lift a club in his first season. He is not that type of player. If Daisy Thomas had gone to richmond (also an outside player) then his career would have gone the same way. Tambling would be SUBLIME at Geelong, STK and other clubs with established in and under players to feed him the ball. I agree that no journo can be infallible, it is just not possible. It is all guesswork. Our recruiters are the ones that need to get it right. Having picks 1,2 have me salivating. 11 & 18 are nothing to scoff at either. With any luck we will bypass the Tamblings and Meesens this draft and land ourselves some solid building blocks.

I will give Emma some credit. Justifies her selections (although I do not agree with her list in parts) and seems to have poured much time and deliberation into her list. The admission of Luke Ball suggest he is a top 25 talent in the draft (which is obvious). I wonder where she would have ranked him. I really want Vardy at 18. I have about 5-6 players I want at pick 11 (none of which are named Luke Ball), but at 18 I want only Vardy.

I was 100% in favor of getting Luke ball 4 weeks ago. The fact that he and his management team have clearly kept the dees at arms has me concerned. Ball would make an instant impact if he played with heart, the fact he appears to not want to play for us means he could turn out to be a bust. Let the filth have him, keep picks 11 & 18.

Fantastic Post! 5 stars all the way! Just on Pagan's comments on grimes; I wonder if he will lose his pace and agility when his body develops? Obviously he is in need of a few kilos (a few might angus burgers might be closer to the point), but will this take away from what makes him a prospect at AFL level? If not he could very well be a solid acquisition for the MFC.

With Cloke getting a 3-year offer from port it would not suprise me at all if Meesen got a look from another club. Ruckman are a scarcity in the upcoming draft, and hawthorn could use a ruckman with a ready body. Bryan might get the nod before Meesen, however this could suggest that Messen is the next guy in line for selection. Meesen has the bigger upside and Hawthorn have nothing to lose by selecting either one of these blokes. I don't rate Cloke above Meesen or Bryan (Cloke has no heart-soft as a pillow) and he is inking a 3 year deal with PA. Fingers crossed for Meesen that he gets a chance with a contender (also adds to the excitement of adding another young prospect to the rookie list for the dees).

ND is the best chance at a second shot. Dees look like they have verbally committed to MacDonald according to reports in the age this morning, meaning the only way to get Macdonald and thorp would be for Thorp to nominate for the ND. I have a gut feeling that Thorp will be selected with pick 50 in the ND unless a very tasty prospect slides to us at 50. If he is not there, good luck to him. If he misses a ND selection, I believe he can still nominate for other upcoming drafts.

Joel Macdonald elects not to nominate for the National Draft
Adzman replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
MacDonald knows something we all don't- where he is going next year. I think given that he did not nominate he has a clear idea that he will be joining a side with an early PSD pick. I would also suggest he has had more than 1 team verbally agree to draft him via the PSD. Why else would he bypass the ND? -
Fitzpatrick will be the biggest slider. If Vardy is due around 15-25, the rest of the talls will start to trickle form there. Fitzpatrick is still on a limited training schedule due to his thumb and chronic fatigue. He could slip to the late 30s-40s. Super talent, but comes with a risk.

I have said this before, If grimes Mach II is anything special he will already be on our radar and he will already be on the draft list. The dees would have looked into him before anyone else given the talent his brother has. 30-50 are murky waters in this draft given how many top prospects will not enter the draft due to the GC having signed away some top talent. Selecting anyone at 34 or 50 is going to be tough to get right, so rolling the dice on a fairytale seems like a worthwhile cause. If Dylan does not pan out and is delisted, I believe Jack will be fine as he has his own destiny to fulfill with this footy club. I doubt Grimes will be there at pick 50.

Scully plays against my younger brother in law, and the wraps on this kid out here in the city of casey are massive! He is miles above the comp out this way, and deserves the #1 pick.
-
A born leader would have taken a chance to lead. A callow soul will seek the easiest path- which Luke Ball has appeared to take. Forget Ball, I look forward to seeing that sack of schitt watching a young demons grop become something bigger and better than he will ever be. This must mean 100% that either MacDonald or Thorp will be joining us in 2010.
-
Daw at 18??? Are you on crack? Dude has a high ceiling, but why roll the dice so early on when a handful of stronger candidates will still be on the board. At 34 have a look, but pick 11 and 18 should be an educated draft selection based on the best available talent.
-
Here is hoping that we land a few diamonds in the rough with picks 34 & 50.
-
Well, with Richo out of the picture my money is on the Tiggies taking out the spoon this year. Hats off to Richo, will go down as an all time Richmond great.
-
I have seen much worse than Tenace play at AFL level. He is alright, but I really cannot see him addressing a need for the MFC. He has less of an upside than Simon Buckley who was let go, signing Tenace would make no sense.
-
Eddie is just covering his tracks with the Collingwood faithful. Downplaying a desire to have him means that they are not really missing anything at all as they "might" take him at 30. Collingwood would take him 100% at 30, the fact they won't get him is why Collingwood seem so/so in the media.
-
Screw drafting Luke Ball. The [censored] doesnt want to play for us, so as far as I am concerned he is a waste of roster space. Let him go to collingwood for a reduced contract, and in 2 years time when collingwood come back to earth and Ball and Co are cleared out to rebuild, he can look back and wish he was a part of the rising demons. Thorpe is risky, but worth a punt. MacDonald has publicly said he would like to play for the MFC, so bring him on in!
-
A 3 deserved a new deal. Great work MFC. Really starting to act like a club that is pushing to win.
-
Pick 18 for ball? No thanks! Dude could have had the contract he wanted with us by nominating for the PSD. Instead has chosen the risk of the ND. Ball does not want to play for us, burning pick 18 is not an option. Time to move on and look at drafting a kid that would like to play for us.
-
Until it is known what Mitch Thorps "problems" were, the jury is out on this one. He can play better than a chunk of players on AFL lists, that said from all reports the guy has some serious issues. Hawthorn has some talent to burn, but if Thorp was worth a dime he would still be at Hawthorn.[Deleted] I think Thorp may have done his dash at AFL level. I hope that he gets his schitt together and makes good of his #6 selection. Worth a rookie punt, but not a ND or PSD pick.

The harsh truth is that if Ball wanted to come to the dees he would have said so already (we have the cap room for him). We are the last in line for Luke Ball (of those 4-5 clubs in the running for his signature). Bradshaw wants to go to the Swans...so why get in the way of him doing it. We don't need a player with 3 years of footy left (less if injured). We need 6+ year player who will be up and about when our footy club is in the mix for a flag. Great player, but just doesn't make good sense for either party. As for the draft, this suits me: 1 Scully 2 Trengove 11 Butcher/Talia 18 Vardy/Black 34 Fill a need/best available at that pick. PSD- Pass! As for the cap space, would be worth a look at extending a few contracts to keep those GC bastards from getting in the ears of our kids.
