I don't care how a magician pulls a rabbit out of a hat, as long as he does it! Same goes for flash, whatever allows him to create some on field magic is cool by me. He could get on all fours and push the ball along the ground with his forehead and I still would not question it!

Scully for me. Played a blinder!

OK, I was at the game down at Casey. One thing I can tell you about Jackie boy is that his foot speed is up there with the top few at the club, and he is now 3 inches taller than Brad Miller. For his height he would be one of the quickest in his height group in the entire AFL. Played a nice game IMO, didnt lower his colours and did some nice things. He did not dominate, but I can tell you that he is a player on the rise. NikNat is not a KPP, but is a fantastic prospect. Jackie Boy is a KPP and looks like to be one of the quickest and most agile young CHFs I have ever seen. Watts is as unique as NikNat, just very different. He has good footy smarts, and has a stack of development to go. Its all about the Ceiling. Has NikNat hit his? You never know.......... If you are going to come out and hit a player hard, I suggest you look at some of the positives for that player. Watts is doing some good things, and will eventually start setting the VFL on fire.

Never been one to ride Junior, but I will say this. 2010 still could be his last season. He has been sensational, but one major injury will be curtains for Junior. He won't rehab for 8 months to maybe come back next year. Sad but true. Enjoy every minute of this lion hearted leader. His intensity has rubbed off on the kids, making us a fierce tacking team. Junior has proven not just the demons faithful wrong, but every competitor supporter who believes Junior to be a lesser AFL captain. Doing more of the dirty inside work than any other AFL captain. Well done thus far Junior, we hope we can get another season out of you!! Absolute champion!

Rivers was always that injured player that had a spot waiting for him. Until now! Macdonald is not flashy, he just goes out and gets the job done. Rivers is a required player but he is going to have to work very hard to get a spot in that back 6. Rivers up forward maybe?? MacDonald looks like to have settled in, and so far he has been a major player for the dees in 2010.

Jurrah is a guy we need to re sign before the seasons end. He is a guy that can fill seats, and the MFC needs to fill seats!! Unlucky for Bruce to be out of contract. He is on the wrong side of 30. Hopefully Bruce can take a reduced salary and get another 2-3 year deal. If he wants top dollar still he may be left out in the cold. I believe Dunn and possibly Bate are out of contract also. Bartram is also up after signing a one year deal to play this season. It would be nice to retain many of the players mentioned in this thread, but the likelihood of the happening is bloody slim. Getting required players to sign during the year would be a big deal for the MFC. Having to negotiate 12+ new contracts at the seasons end is not going to be a great idea. Every club is going to be hitting the panic button and players could be moving homes like a game of musical chairs. The more we can take off the market, the less we are likely to lose in the great GC17 panic that all clubs will be facing. Remember, GC17 may not target some of our kids, but if another club loses a required player to GC17 they will have no problems filling their new gap with one of our kids!

It is looking good at Melbourne right now. We still have some players to come back into the side, not to mention a few high picks that have not had a go yet. Respect has to be earned, and this club is putting its case forward in 2010.

Hard to be unhappy with a 55 point win. I think Bailey will go in with the same team against the lions. Scully- Rising Star Nomination?

"Neither of them have excited fans and neither has a player who we widely tout as the next Ablett, Hird or Carey." Now come on old Sheeds. Go up north and see a stack of indigenous kids in Melbourne Jumpers. Why is that? Not Ablett, not Hird, not Carey, but a bloke named Liam Jurrah who is so unique he completely stands on his own. Excitement you want? Jurrah has other fans talking about him, so it is fair to say it is not just the MFC that is excited. He might not reach the heights of the aforementioned players, but if it is exciting you want, Jurrah stands atop the AFL for exiting! Saddens me to read this. Sheedy was a Guy I always had respect for. This sort of journalism makes me wonder if he needs to be carted off to a home to enjoy re-runs of "Murder she wrote" and "The Bill"

The way he reads the play shows he has a strong grasp on the game. If his body can catch up to his brain he will be a multi time AA defender. We are lucky to have such a young intellectual footballer at the club. His understanding of the game could really help kids coming through the ranks. He very well could be a future coach!

Geez, poor Bloody Bartram. Been a solid fixture thus far. Deserves to keep his spot. Sylvia has to come in if fit. Still not a big fan of dropping Jones but Sylvia has to come into this side. When this list develops, spots are going to be hard to come by. I would not like to be the wrong side of 30 next year!

I think the GC17 will have blown all their cash on stars before they start raiding our list for the likes of Bail and Spencer. Ricky worries me because I really rate him. That said, we have cap room if it is money he wants!

I saw this thread and nearly fell off my chair! Nothing would please me more than seeing Juice kick a monster bag against the tiggies. But lets be honest, he has be sub par so far and is not dominating any of his opponents. I will call this. If he is beaten by the tiggies defenders, he will have played his last game for the club. If he kicks a bag, he will earn himself a chance to resurrect his career.

Brock still has some good footy in him. Feel for the guy. Brock did what he thought was right, and Carlton did make the rigth trade, because a fit Brock makes them better. Master stroke? Looks that way, but until our pick 11 turns out to be as good as our trapper pick 16, we will have to wait and see who the real winner is.

I think Michael Newton might just be better than Lynch...............seriously! Lynch is a very one dimensional footballer, and would cost us 100k a year more than Newton just to play down at Casey. List cloggers like Lynch can walk right past the MFC. WE need to find super talent if we are going to rise. Save that roster spot for a Kid in the next draft.

Suspending Ben Cousins is the best attempt at tanking since Bails put Matty Warnock at FF against the tigers in a tight 4th quarter contest..... Tigers go in underdogs, and to be honest I think the kids that come in will be hungry to keep their spots. Say what you like about the tigers, they are betting with house money against us and could be a handful. They might be the awful tigers of 2010, but we were the shocking demons of 2009 and we have not done enough yet to think we are a dead cert against anyone. That said, the dees have a good chance this week against a green tigers unit. Should be an interesting clash.

Tommy Boy was a real bright spot last season. Seems to have put in the hard yards at Casey and will be on the selectors table soon enough. With so many kids pressing for selection the heat will be on those not performing. It is a nice position to be in when your young players are banging on the door for selection. Tommy will be in soon enough.

A scarecrow up forward would me more useful than our current forward line. At least the scarecrow won't flood down the ground and will be in the forward 50 to mark when the ball is coming in to the 50. Rivers is handy, not sure if he is a short term solution up forward but it can't hurt. Willing to try anything at this point.

Would have LOVED to hang my scarf out the window, HOWEVER they ran out of members scarfs again! 3 weeks in a row, come on MFC! Great feeling today. It has been a while, and to notch up an early season win really feels great.
-
I don't mind if Trengove misses out on a nomination this week. Given his mature decision making I can see more games like this, and better, going forward for him. He will get a nomination this season at one stage. Todays game might be average compared to what he could do later on this season.
-
For Chips height and weight he must be the quickest guy to cover 50m in the AFL. I know everyone loves to bang on about the speed/agility of Franklin, but chip does the exact same thing on the other side of the ground. He beats his opposition with speed, agility and strength. He truley is one of the keys to the MFCs future. If he can keep this up and build form and experience, he will be a premier backman in the AFL.
-
Congrats! Nice work on the name also.

Bruce is better used up forward and in the middle of the ground than down back. Burton destroyed him early, but Brucey made a mends by working hard around the ground. Bruce must not be used down back anymore. We have many capable guys who can fill a back 6 role. If Bruce is to prosper in this young side he must be used in an attacking role. Newton had a few nice bumps, but did not do enough to lock down a spot for next week. Paul Johnson is better at ground level than Newton, and is just as good a mark. Newtons ruck work however does deserve some praise. Did well in forward 50 ruck contests. There are some spots available in that forward 6, lets be honest! Dunn/Bate/Newton all did some good things, but were also responsible for some less memorable moments. Scully is working hard. It is his long bombs to our opposition that tarnish his good work. This will happen less as he gets some games under his belt. At least he had the balls to kick the ball when at times it seemed like we had forgotten how to kick the thing.

6 J Frawley 5 J McDonald 4 J Bennell 3 J Grimes 2 J Trengove 1 M Warnock An honorable mention to Rohan Bail who continues to build some form and looks like a handy fixture for 2010. Nice to see Garland back in the side, I had forgotten how special he is.

Their is still a place for the footy show, but the truth is this thing had run its course years ago. Every other network has tried to come up with a rival to the footy show, and has fallen short. The alternatives are not bad, but just not good enough to put the footy show to bed. One day a new show will take the mantle, and when this show comes along it will be the death of the Shane Crawford show. Until then, enjoy the same show that has no love for the MFC and talks about the same sh$t week in week out. It is that, or whatever other medical drama/bored housewife/reality shitfest is on against it.
