  1. Oh gawd no! Granted there's not bad ideas in brainstorming, but if there was... this'd be it. He doesn't have the temperament to coach. Coaching is an obsession and vocation. They sacrifice so much and Garry has never been interested in any way shape or form to make those lifestyle sacrifices. Which is fair enough, not many would be willing to do that (including me). He has also been out of the game for a very, very long time. Outside of the International Rules Series, he hasn't been involved in a coaching capacity at any level (as far as I'm aware.). It is a completely different sport and world to the one he working in 22 years ago.
  2. The point of linking the articles is to remind people that we are talking about a human being. Bringing up his gambling addiction is low.
  3. Yeah.. let's kick the addict. https://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/goodwin-battles-his-demons/news-story/69db0b940bb4d042dd8626517d9acdbc https://www.qt.com.au/news/how-simon-goodwin-went-from-rock-bottom-to-demons-/3525448/#:~:text=Which is how he found, embarrassing moment of his life. https://www.afl.com.au/news/140314/gambling-family-issues-more-goodwin-tells-all https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/i-gambled-with-my-life/news-story/d7b8ef698ff0995c86efa9ab632c471d?sv=ff30c21ddc96b056492694124eca5dea
  4. Plenty of criticisms of late picks, who for the majority of draftees, don't have long, successful careers. Criticising Rookie draft picks looks like desperation too. There is zero certainty in drafting and even now, after the fact, there's not many convincing alternatives being offered. The real value of the Lever trade has been covered many times and Lever has outplayed the players taken with those picks. It's pointless going through it again because the same people only focus on the 'two first round picks' sound bite without looking at what those picks were and who was available at the time. For a draftee taken: 31-50: Only 35% play more than 60 games, whilst only 24% make it to 100. You've got a 1 in 4 chance of finding a 100 games player. 91% don't make it to 200. 51-70: Only 40% play more than 20 games in their career. 86% don't make it to 100 games whilst 95% don't make it past 200. A top 10 pick in the Rookie Draft has a 15% chance to play 100 games. 39% of the top 10 never play a game. Besides... I though the team was good and the coch terrible..?
  5. It’s the size that worries me. If it was intentional, to try to build him into a ‘power-forward’ then it was a huge mistake. I suspect however that an injury, possibly his toe, is preventing him from training to the same level he has in the past. When he was at his best 2017-18, he was very mobile.
  6. Langdon has been a good pick-up.
  7. You're annoyed that promotional material doesn't reflect reality..? First ad you've ever seen?
  8. Can't wait to see what we pull out for the 10 year!
  9. Where's Fitzroy now?! They won the battle, we won the war..?
  10. YES! Was noticing it more and more as the game went on. Fair enough that the central umpire was missing, but surely holding off the ball is what the other two should be looking out for at stoppages.
  11. That’s the one I was thinking of... I might need to check the replay. Looked like Kossi lowered his head and rammed his shoulder into an opponent’s ribs.
  12. Does anyone know what the infringement was that Pickett committed in his tackle? (3rd quarter I think)
  13. Something has to change because what is currently happening doesn't work for anyone. It needs to be a change to his role on-field, attitude or both, but there needs to be a change.
  14. Insert “Can’t we have both” gif
  15. Look who’s crawled out from under his bridge! The last two weeks must have been a very difficult time for you.
  16. Am a Jesse Hogan fan. Saw thread had an update. Am very disappointed.
  17. Book my flight back for the Granny!!! Oh... no.
  18. There’s a lot of 04/05 Aaron Davey about him. May have a higher ceiling, but that tenacious efforts and agility is very early-Davey.
  19. Jack Watts... didn't he debut against Collingwood..?
  20. In all fairness, the OP is about potential and it makes for an interesting and confusing analysis. On paper, the line-up is very strong and there is undoubtedly talent across each line. The question probably is why/how/when that talent will translate into performances better than some of the stronger Mebourne teams of the past few decades.
  21. I think it's a matter of talent vs team or, dare I say, team of champions vs champion team. There's an awful lot of talent in the current line-up, but we are not playing as well collectively as the 2000 team. There was a stack of talent in the '94 team, but there was not an even spread across the park - namely the defense and midfield were significantly weaker talent-wise that the forward line. Let's not forget, for all it's talent and enthusiasm, that team only made the finals after beating Sydney in the final round. Lose that and the '94 team finishes outside the 8 and is not talked about again. From the weekend, you could find a role for: Gawn Oliver Petracca May Viney Langdon Salem Harmes Hibberd Mostly midfield and defenders and, on current form, you'd probably consider Lever and Oscar too. Our starting tall backs in the 2000 grand final were: Ingerson, Nicholson and Collins; good honest footballers who could play a role, but certainly not incredible players. Again, a starting midfield of White, Rigoni, Leoncelli and Woewodin were playing very well collectively in 2000, but I would have my money on Gawn, Oliver, Petracca and Viney to be getting the ball out of the middle ahead of them.
  22. Would be very curious to know which coach gave which one vote to Sicily and Weideman. Also somewhat surprised to see May in there. Really enjoy the coach's votes - they give a great insight. PETRACCA 5, 5 GAWN 4, 4 OLIVER 3, 2 VINEY 3 MAY 2 SICILY 1 WEIDEMAN 1
  23. I've never really noticed his ball-drop until recently. It's not so much 'high' as it is forced down onto his boot from up high. It's as though he's standing in the middle of a pack and slamming it onto his boot as he doesn't have the time/space to build momentum. The problem being, he uses this ball-drop even when he's running into space.
  24. Clarkson is an exceptional Coach but he simply doesn't have the cattle to execute a winning game-plan. I think the last few years we've seen Hawthorn artificially propped-up by some aging stars, NQR imports and some coaching ingenuity. But the talent coming in has not matched the talent going out (including Fagan). We're now going to see a power struggle (ego-clash) between Kennett and Clarkson, similar to what we saw 2009-10. I think the media is going to lap it up and there will be genuine pressure for the Hawks to have a fresh start with Mitchell and for Clarkson to take over a ready made list. We're already seeing shades of this through Jordan Lewis and Kennett last week.
  25. Expected release date is 14th of September. Have to sell all the space, then get them made.
