Wallace: Dees Stunted Weideman’s Development
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ah! The gifting games to high draft pick technique... that sounds somewhat familiar... -
Both started forward and showed some promise in 2006. Bate in particular looked like he could be a player similar to Adelaide's Tom Lynch; mobile, tall half-forward. Never really kicked on. Bailey then tried to fashion Dunn into a big bodied tagger, like Cameron Ling. It was Neeld then Roos that moved him to full back. He started to play some good footy there when Frawley moved forward in '14, but again, didn't develop. Dunn's a great survivor and, by my count is one of only three players remaining from the 2004 drafts (national, pre-season and rookie). The other two being Franklyn and Eddie Betts.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to xman97's topic in Melbourne Demons
On the surface of it, yes absolutely. You can never really know though, particularly with a developing player like Weid. Brayshaw was kept out of the 2018 team for the first three rounds, went on to finish third in the Brownlow. We'll never know if he would have had the same year without the development/kick up the bum that those first three rounds gave him. For better or for worse, Weid didn't play for four rounds... but now he's in career best form. Did we miss out on having our best forward playing, or did those rounds in development lead to his current form? -
Dees on Brink of Another Trade Disaster
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand bump. Kossie and Rivers were excellent tonight and did everything you could ask of two first year players. Its a fitting time to reflect on the Nth trade, though far from finished, its looking pretty good for the Dees. A futures trade requires a lot of guess work and I liked the trade then, and I like the trade now. (add in Jackson and 2019 draft of looking very solid)- 168 replies

Clearly not consented to or invited. Clearly not appreciated. Zero chance of him or the club taking any action against a senior double-premiership player.
-
Yep, I like this. Id even look to bring in Tomlinson and have TMac and Tomlinson work the crowd ruckman over with workfare. Take the pressure off TMac and free him up around the ground. Hopefully can build some confidence and get a few touchesz
-
Rest him. I wouldn't be against him sitting one of these matches out anyways considering the limited recovery days and that we still need to catch up on the Essendon match. Back in our midfielders and put some more responsibility on their shoulders (just for one week).

So could every team in the league...
-
Oh gawd no! Granted there's not bad ideas in brainstorming, but if there was... this'd be it. He doesn't have the temperament to coach. Coaching is an obsession and vocation. They sacrifice so much and Garry has never been interested in any way shape or form to make those lifestyle sacrifices. Which is fair enough, not many would be willing to do that (including me). He has also been out of the game for a very, very long time. Outside of the International Rules Series, he hasn't been involved in a coaching capacity at any level (as far as I'm aware.). It is a completely different sport and world to the one he working in 22 years ago.

The point of linking the articles is to remind people that we are talking about a human being. Bringing up his gambling addiction is low. -
INSIDE DEES’ REVIEW WITH ‘P****D OFF’ GOODWIN

Plenty of criticisms of late picks, who for the majority of draftees, don't have long, successful careers. Criticising Rookie draft picks looks like desperation too. There is zero certainty in drafting and even now, after the fact, there's not many convincing alternatives being offered. The real value of the Lever trade has been covered many times and Lever has outplayed the players taken with those picks. It's pointless going through it again because the same people only focus on the 'two first round picks' sound bite without looking at what those picks were and who was available at the time. For a draftee taken: 31-50: Only 35% play more than 60 games, whilst only 24% make it to 100. You've got a 1 in 4 chance of finding a 100 games player. 91% don't make it to 200. 51-70: Only 40% play more than 20 games in their career. 86% don't make it to 100 games whilst 95% don't make it past 200. A top 10 pick in the Rookie Draft has a 15% chance to play 100 games. 39% of the top 10 never play a game. Besides... I though the team was good and the coch terrible..?

It’s the size that worries me. If it was intentional, to try to build him into a ‘power-forward’ then it was a huge mistake. I suspect however that an injury, possibly his toe, is preventing him from training to the same level he has in the past. When he was at his best 2017-18, he was very mobile.

Langdon has been a good pick-up.

You're annoyed that promotional material doesn't reflect reality..? First ad you've ever seen?

Can't wait to see what we pull out for the 10 year!

Where's Fitzroy now?! They won the battle, we won the war..?
-
YES! Was noticing it more and more as the game went on. Fair enough that the central umpire was missing, but surely holding off the ball is what the other two should be looking out for at stoppages.
-
That’s the one I was thinking of... I might need to check the replay. Looked like Kossi lowered his head and rammed his shoulder into an opponent’s ribs.
-
Does anyone know what the infringement was that Pickett committed in his tackle? (3rd quarter I think)
-
Something has to change because what is currently happening doesn't work for anyone. It needs to be a change to his role on-field, attitude or both, but there needs to be a change.
