Spargo averages 11 possessions, 2 tackles and .64 goals a game over his 98 game career. Spargo is none of the things you describe above.
-
Maybe it's due to the Football Department being under review. And it wouldn't surprise me, given our track record in trades over the past 3 years, that Pert has no confidence in the decision making of Lamb, Richo and Goodwin. It could be a precursor to Richo and Lamb getting the flick based on the review.
-
Spargo is a hack, and was playing for Casey last year. If he wasn't contracted, he'd be delisted. I haven't given up on McAdam. At least Owies can impact the scoreboard.
-
Correct. I'm not a Pert fan, but it's delusional to think that he is acting independently of the Football Department. The only reason we would be shopping Oliver around is that his off field issues are similar to that of Jesse Hogan. But any club that wants him needs to sell the farm to get him, which is appropriate given that the club is Geelong. San De Konning wasn't best 23 in their finals team, so he would be merely steak knives to any deal. Can't see what they have to offer that would satisfy us.
-
If we trade Oliver, then pursuing Houston is pointless. Without Oliver, we would need a mini rebuild with high end young talent.
-
I bet he didn't write it before the GF. If the Lions lost, Fagan would have come under the same scrutiny. It's easy after the event.
-
Other clubs would see Oliver's market value at it's lowest right now. They'd be mad not to ask. Conversely, we'd be mad to entertain any offers, unless there are other factors at play, as was the case with Jesse Hogan.

The game has changed from 2005. There were unlimited interchange rotations back then, so it wasn't imperative for a 2nd ruck to have some credentials as a forward. Plus Jason Ball started his career as a key forward at the WCE. He kicked 48 goals in a season at WCE. Both Ball and Jolly could take contested marks. Grundy can't. The Grundy experiment was bound to fail.

I can't imagine it's like doing a 4 year tertiary degree. It's probably an online course outlining the protocols of managing people rather than a knowledge of football tactics.
-
It's was stupidity, not a gamble. Why would anyone think that after 10 years in the AFL system, that Grundy would be capable of taking contested marks as a resting forward? The same applies to Max as a forward.
-
Jordon hasn't been a high possession player at the Swans all year. That's not his role. It was the Swans prime movers that let them down.
-
Tim Lamb will work his magic by turning pick 37 into pick 34, by giving up pick 25.
-
This Bukkake bloke would fit in well at the Dees. We've got plenty of blokes who spray it everywhere.
-
I'm hearing that Caleb Daniel is about to announce his retirement, and will take on the job.
-
Good player at the Dogs, waste of space at the Dees. Happy we've made another list spot available.

Geelong wanted Stengle out. Really? We wanted Grundy out due to our own incompetence. Port wanted Teakle out because they recruited a better player in Sweet, and had Soldo and Vinsentini as backup. Geelong acquired a 24yo Bowes plus gained a draft pick. Bowes had come off a long term injury in 2022. We acquired 27yos Hunter and Billings, who had spent time in the VFL due to poor form. Surely you can see the difference. And you tried to argue that Hayden McLean wouldn't be a good fit for us as a forward/ruck when we acquired Grundy. How's that looking now?

You are kidding yourself if you believe that the addition of Grundy, Hunter, Schache, Billings, Fullarton, McAdam and Hore hasn't been a massive failure. Not one established themselves in the team. No other club has had a poorer track record than us on this front in recent years. And nobody is complaining about lower draft picks being a failure, because we haven't had any recently.

You keep saying that. Jason Taylor isn't watching AFL games every weekend. It's Jason Taylor's job to convene with all the recruiting scouts around the country. And I'm talking about recruits who are not in the AFL system. Jason Taylor wouldn't be talking to player managers, enquiring about the availability of current players in the AFL system. And he wouldn't be discussing contract terms with the player managers. That's Tim Lamb's job. Jason Taylor may offer his opinion as to the value of a draft pick, but it's Tim Lamb and the Football Department who are making decisions on recruiting players from other clubs. And that's where we are failing.

What if Verrall isn't AFL ready in 2026? Tom Campbell will be 34 then. Whoever we bring in from the State Leagues will be low salary and a low pick.
-
We are obviously trying to take over the mantle from Geelong as the Geriatrics Club. Our motto has become "If you younger than 27, you need not apply". As DeeSpencer said, it doesn't make sense. Verrall is still an unknown quantity, so surely we should be targeting someone in the 25yo age bracket who can compete at AFL level, but also has upside.
-
I watched a fair bit of the WAFL GF, and can understand why Erasmus was playing. He knows how to find the ball, but his decision making and disposal is sub par. A big "No" for me. If we're looking at players in that age bracket, then it's Peatling, followed by Hobbs.
-
JJ wasn't terrible in 2023. He was starved of opportunities because we recruited Hunter, who was no better. It was a no brainer that JJ would leave on the back of that. And you haven't addressed why we got Grundy in the first place. It's Taylor's job to scour the country for talent. It's the List Manager's job to talk to Player Agents about the availability of existing AFL players. As the List Manager, Lamb is the one who'd know what financial terms a player wants in order to get him to the club. The acquisition of the failed recruits from other clubs is on Lamb in conjunction with Richardson and Goodwin.

100%. I proposed at the time that Hayden McLean would have been a better fit than Grundy. Had only played 31 games in 4 years at that stage, so could have been gettable.
-
Brynn Teakle would have been an ideal pick as a delisted free agent. North picked him up in the mid-season draft and did well as a 2nd ruck.

The drive down to the Cattery was probably more taxing than a flight to Perth.
