Not if we still have to pay part of his contract and only get token compensation for what he's worth.

Things are "a bit of a mess" according to Shane Woewodin
Who at the club does he take it up with? The President who has since resigned? The CEO who said that our culture is the best that he's seen in 40 year of football? I think it's a good thing for the club. We can't continue to sweep things under the rug.

Things are "a bit of a mess" according to Shane Woewodin
Maybe his comments will dispel the myth that all the perceived woes at the club are media driven. And his comments support the decision of Houston to pull out of a trade to us. The club apologists need to get their head out the sand. The quicker the results of the review are published, the better.

2024 Trade Radio
Your last sentence is where we've gone wrong over the past couple of years. Acquired players during trade week simply because they were available at a discount, and not because they were the right fit. We missed out on our targeted players in Houston and Peatling, so aside from Derksen, it's time to shut up shop.

Trade Targets
Missing out on Houston is a blessing in disguise. He may be a dual AA, but so was Grundy. Neither was/is what we need right now. We need to regenerate our list with quality youth, rather than topping up with a player who doesn't move the needle for us. If it was Butters or Rozee, then you'd do it.

NON-MFC: Trade Talk
There would have to be a 2nd rd pick going back to Freo, otherwise it's a massive overpay. Tigers will end up with heaps of 1st rd picks, so it would be easy for them to give away a 2nd rder.

It doesn't really shed any light either way.

How do you know that? The club could easily have told Oliver, his management and the Geelong FC that he will be held to his contract, and there is no story. They clearly didn't, otherwise Oliver wouldn't have met with Geelong players. To say it's media driven is nonsense.

100% agree. With that being the case, why are posters on here obsessed with potting the media, as if it's totally fabricated. You've even got a poster writing a complaint to the AFL, when they have no idea of what is accurate and what is not. Supporters should be more upset with how the club have handled this rather than how the media have reported it.

Time to go Goody?
Are you deliberately misspelling half the players you've listed, or you have no idea who they are? Some of these blokes hardly played a game under Daniher, who resigned halfway through 2007, not 2008. Cranky is right. Our 2000 GF midfield of White, Woewodin, Powell and Leoncelli was workmanlike, but hardly comparable to Gawn, Oliver, Petracca and Viney. Daniher and Northey both got the best out of average lists. Can't say the same about Goodwin. I don't think Goodwin should get the sack, but unless he changes his methods, the results will lead to him being replaced at the end of 2025.

We can get him to start work at the Caulfield redevelopment.

The Wade Derksen Thread
We had a strong Casey side with experienced Casey affiliated players and developing young Melbourne players. Those Casey players are leaving the club, and we are left with rejects from other clubs who didn't see themselves as VFL players when we courted them. I'm sure Tom Campbell will be good at Casey, but why not go for a mature aged state league ruckman with 5-7 years ahead of him, and a hunger to become an AFL player.

Well said. We don't need club officials coming out and saying "We love Clarry". Clubs and players need to be more mature about what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to trades. And it's a two way street. The reality is that if Richmond or North had shown interest, and were prepared to offer a fair trade, then the club would have been happy to trade him. Once Geelong became the only suitor, a trade was never going to get done. Lamb and co. can deny that Oliver was "shopped around", but we wouldn't have 100 pages of "Oliver trade rumours" if he wasn't. It's naive for people on here to think that it was a media beat up.

The Wade Derksen Thread
They are not depth players if they can't play a role at AFL level, or aren't good enough to be selected. Meanwhile other clubs are picking up quality kids with equivalent picks, or recruiting players that fulfill a need.

It's the same person/people who re-signed Schache for another year. However, according to many on here the decisions were justifiable because Fullarton and Schache were cheap depth, lol. Hopefully the football department review weeds out the incompetent decision makers from the past 3 years.

Time to go Goody?
100%. There are people on here that think we are the only team that has injuries. Carlton had a far worse run with injuries, but still made the 8. We got beaten by an Eagles side without Yeo and Allen. And we can't use an injury to Gawn as an excuse when the club didn't bother recruiting a backup.

The CEO and the Board. This is just my take, but I think that Lamb knows that his position is tenuous. Maybe he's just trying to save face by distancing himself from the Petracca and Oliver debacle, by saying that all List Managment decisions are made by a collective. I think the review will see Lamb and Richardson moved on.

Oliver Trade Rumours
That was cringeworthy. I thought I was listening to Humphrey Appleby from Yes Minister. And why would he even need to say that the List Management team were united? United against whom?

KOZZY A DEMON FOR LIFE!!!
Sam McClure "Breaking news. Kozzy has been granted his wish to be closer to family, and has been traded to the Perth Demons".

I look at it as a bonus that Lamb isn't stuffing up our list this year with aging rejects from other clubs. I'm not saying Derksen is a reject because GWS clearly want to keep him. And he's young enough to have upside. The trade period is still early, so Lamb has plenty of time to stuff things up.

The Draft Pick Upgrade Thread
We had list spots available for Billings, Fullarton, McAdam, Schache and Hore. We had no intention to use those picks because we recruited list cloggers from other clubs. And I've already listed players taken around and after those picks. Plus there are numerous who have debuted and shown promise like McAuliffe, Freijah and Roberts. Calsher Dear was taken F/S with pick 56. If we bid with pick 27, would the Hawks have matched?

The Draft Pick Upgrade Thread
It really worked out well for us last year, lol. We traded picks 14, 27 and 35 to get pick 11. Don't get me wrong, I like Tholstrup, but we could have got Darcy Wilson, Logan Morris, Shaun Mannagh, Lawson Humphries or Sam Clohessy with later picks. Instead we topped up our list with recycled hacks after re-signing Schache. I have no faith in our list management.

We are crying out for a 2nd ruck/forward to relieve JVR of ruck duties, as well as a backup ruckman who is happy to toil in the 2's.

Maybe we should start a new thread on it. 🤔
