Geez give the guy a break. What's the problem with his thread and/or posts? It's not malicious or scandolous in any way, isn't having a veiled dig, in fact it is a positive bit of info. Doesn't matter if the story is true or false. Why is necessary for him to reveal who the backer might be? It's neither here nor there i would have thought.6 points

I feel desperately sorry that the kids have had their lives and probably their education disrupted by this crazy Vlad Folly, but hopefully it is the start of a big exodus from this synthetic artifact. I wonder what out them off most? The awful place, the mad coach, or just the shame of being part of this ....this parody? And I guess their new recruiting guru will be wanting a big fat raise as he tries to sell the unsaleable to some poor kids who just want to play AFL at a real club.1 point

I read it as Casey losing there ability to play at a high level in the competition. They are on the way to being the MFC seconds. Sad for Casey. IS KC out there ? What do you think?1 point

Subsequently he/she has since added that they may want to remain private. That's fair enough. I always liked the game "Guess Who?" Is the supporter Male ? Does he have facial hair (beard/mo) ? Does he wear glasses ? Is he in the media ? lol.1 point

I'm 95% sure I know who it is...I have been to their Mansion in South Yarra for a dinner party about three years ago. We had a big discussion at the time about Melbourne. He was very much against tanking. Loves melbourne. I was suprised that he/family isn't involved in the club more. But the whole family is rather media shy.1 point

Well done Old Dee, I think this is probably the best statement of 2011 in my view. It sums up exactly how I feel, and I would imagine a lot of the people on this site are in the same boat. It's not about thriving on being underachievers or getting used to being trodden on, it's about controlling, or as you superbly put it, RESTRAINING our feelings. While I'm not (in the words of a Demonland great) "up to my balls in Neeld", and I have far from asked my boss for the 2 weeks off after the Grand Final to celebrate our premiership, I'm quite positive about what 2012 will bring us. I can assure anyone on this site, when my Club loses, it hurts bloody hard, but you just front up the next week and hope that you don't feel that way again. The fact that we continue to front up, especially after the past few years, just makes us enjoy those wins that bit better. I have mates, and they barrack for the MFC, who are the first to sing the song when we win, but where are they when we lose? It sh!ts me that supporters are like that. I know that the day we win number 13, people that I grew up with, went to school with, and have worked with, I know that wherever they are, they will all smile and say "I bet billy2803 will be happy". Just because I don't suffer from premature jubilation during preseason doesn't mean I don't have high hopes and get kicked in the guts when we don't achieve.1 point

Something a bit odd here. My post (above) has been edited, i presume by a moderator. In the part removed i questioned why a moderator would take the guy to task. I didn't insult a moderator (or anyone for that matter), swear or write anything inapproriate. I certainly didn't breach the code of conduct. Can a moderator please explain why this section from my post was removed.1 point

Appropriate considering his recent He Who Must Not Be Mentioned monicker (thought I detected a hint of Parseltongue during his March presser) - fangs for the memories.1 point

Am I happy we had a number 1 draft pick, only to lose him after 2 years (or prior to us signing him)? No. Do I think we should've received a number 1 draft pick in return? Yes, especially considering we didn't get any value out of the one we had (due to a lack of time). Am I going to accept the compensation that we have been given? Yes, because that's the rules. It doesn't matter a stuff what Geelong got, we have been given what the rules state. Should everyone think the same way as me on this issue? Yes. We can feel like we've been shafted and rightly so, but reality is, we haven't, and nothing will change that.1 point

Exactly. I'm glad to hear stuff like this. Thanks for sharing mate. The way some of you blokes carrying you'd think you were running a grand inquisition here or something. Give the guy a break. Here's an idea - if you dont like the thread or think it's pointless dont post.1 point

But if you think of it this way: Geelong paid all that money and they received premierships, b&f's, brownlows, etc from Ablett. They paid for what they received. We didn't pay Scully anywhere close to that because he never signed any contract other than the customary 2 year entry-level deal. Say Scully had signed an extension and played 8 years for us before being poached by GWS and delivered what Ablett did; sure, we would have ended up paying him roughly similar wages to Ablett, but we would have also received all the accolades that Ablett delivered. You're not losing out on money if you're getting premierships in return. That being said, if Scully had played for us for 8 more years, theres no way to say that he wouldn't have been a complete dud and we would have received next to nothing had GWS taken him. All in all I'm happy with the 2 compensation picks we received because there's no way to tell whether or not Scully will amount to anything, and we got rid of a selfish, money-hungry player.1 point

We lost our future in tom scully?!! are you for real? why does everybody keep thinking this guy has jedi powers or something. one player , - even if he is as good as judd, how many premierships has carlton one since judd joined them? OR, how did geelong go after losing their Messiah, ablett jnr? im so sick of this rubbish about scully being the second coming or something. the club dodged a bullet - imagine trying to re sign JT etc in a few years time with bugger all room in the salary cap because the club paid overs in an effort to out bid GWS. 2 compo picks which give the club a chance to secure a couple of top line(not necessarily guns) mid fielders which will give the midfield depth is potentially more valuable than one kid on twice as much money as his fellow mid fielders and all the internal resentment at contract time that that would cause. Please everyone, ....... dry your eyes and get over Tom Scully!1 point

We , as a club do not get the same as Geelong at all - on the surface it looks the same but it isn't . They got 9 years out of their player incl 192 games , a Brownlow , 2 flags , 4 All Australians and 2 B&F's - then received 2 compo picks . We on the other hand got virtually nothing out of our player - then received 2 compo picks . In other words the Cats got tremendous value and we got diddly squat . Most no.1 draft picks have ended up as stars of the game - esp in the last 11 years Last 11 years - Reiwoldt , Hodge , Goddard , Cooney , Deledio , Murphy , Gibbs , Kreuzer , Watts , $cully , Swallow - not many duds there . Of course we all hope that Jack becomes a star and T$ doesn't but decisions should never be clouded by the "good riddance" factor . Unlike the Cats we should have got "like for like" - plus an extra pick for the 2 years of waste . Here's a question - would you trade our 2 compo picks for GW$' 1st pick in this years draft ? It's a no-brainer for me . .1 point

Why not? It's not a slanderous rumour. It's something good about the club if true (makes sense with the amount of cash we're throwing at coaches and elite fitness staff etc...), and the info is being relayed to us die hards without the source being divulged, take it or leave it.1 point

I don't want to sound like a preacher here but I have to disagree with your second point. A person makes their name by the deeds they do and once the integrity that person is shattered, it can't be fixed by brilliant exploits on the football field but rather, by the way their conduct in their everyday lives. Winning a Brownlow won't make Tom Scully a better human being in my eyes. On the point about the compensation, we were shafted before we knew it ... the AFL could have stepped in to assist us and replace like for like when we lost Scully but they are conflicted. To properly compensate Melbourne would have involved taking away a first pick from GWS which they're trying to prop up with football money (i.e. yours and ours in the case of club members who have kicked into the coffers for years). In other words, the compensation should have been determined by people independent of the AFL to maintain the integrity of the draft system if the AFL really cared about "integrity".1 point

Damien Martyn. Fantastic exponent of the leather ball to the boundary from the very willow in his hands. Represented the Baggy Green with distinction. All round nice guy.1 point
