Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Dropping a leader

So Yze has been dropped, fair enough, but what's been lost in all this is the fact that he is meant to be one of our on field leaders. I have no idea of how often this happens with other clubs but my guess is it wouldn't be that often.

My query to the coaching staff - does this mean that the decision to make Yze a leader has already been proven wrong after just one round? Not that it's a ground breaking thought, we were all surprised with it, but jeez, it must be disappointing for Bailey to have to do this so early in the season. The sooner we get rid of the old guard and develop a new and fresh team the better.

Players voted on the leadership group. I am not sure how much say the coaches had.

If a leader is not performing then they should suffer the same fate as other players.

In past years we have drafted to supplement our older players now we are recruiting to replace them.We are at the stage where we should be getting games into the younger players.

And lets just hope some of them become real stars.

To me it also brings into focus the practice of teams electing these groups as opposed to more balanced and thoughtful process and personnel guiding this area.

After all...most armies dont vote their officers ppr NCO's etc.. they are there through training and the exhibition of traits necessary. To have kids vote on their peers is frought with nonsense.

I dont think Yze was ever an inpsired choice. There are going to be many areas that Bailey will just have to wait the year out on. He'll be tweaking that broom even now !!...well should be :)

What this is an indication of is a senior group which is too worried about themselves, and not the interests of the team; that is reflected in their selections.

Bailey has a tough job, he needs to start making some tough calls. I know he is all about player driven improvement, but our senior crop don't have it in them.

No abuse here mate-I agree. At least Bailey has dropped him this early. I loved ND but he played Yze far too long

Don't the Defence forces promote based on seniority? ;)

I think the leadership group was instituted with a view to evolvution, it's greatest heights won't be it's starting point IMO. It had to start somewhere

Agree with your thoughts melbman.

The leadership team was selected by the players based on advised leadership criteria.

Its not only there to keep others on side but also to keep the voted leadership members holding up the standard. McLean stuffed up and got dumped.

As a footballer, I think Yze is finished. However, while I would not accept him in the leadership group (far from it), his appointment puts an onus him to be a leader to the best of his ability. Same with Robbo. And I think subject to any major breach of rules, the Club may get more out of them in it than not part of the group and free to be selfish players they are.

I dont see the current selection of leaders as an end point but it does recognise how starved of leaders we are and that our future leaders are not ready atm. We are left with questionable group of leaders but I think a concept on the right track.

But appointment to the leadership group is and never was a meal ticket to a free game.

& Flying under the radar, guess who, as far as the team leadership is concerned?

Who is missing from these, - who's not taking the responsibility to lead from the front???

Right on again as usual.

If Robertson plays poorly again this week then he can be dropped also. No free rides, and at the same time a run in the 2's can bring something positive out of a player. Being able to get your hands on the footy can be invaluable.

It should be looked at as a player being taught a lesson in which he can learn from old or young.

yes..its all clear to me now...you create a 'leadership group" to which you add those who may or may not actually play !! you also leave out those that actually set examples. Yep...makes sense now !!

What a crock of sh!te ..leadership groups..ffs.. These are people employed to do a job..if they cant get off their collectives and do it..theres the door over there >>>>>>

Its like play time in the school yard... your on my team..and im not picking you .. . You're expecting ppl who at times have a rather tenous grip on their own purposee in the game to instruct others ??

The various players and positions are mentored as they are.. their called coaches !! All we are doing by play acting at leading is creating another level of escapism.. What is this..some sort of football by concesus ??

I would suggest that part of the malaise that exists atthe club is the direct result of empowering some of these clowns to take charge of the own destinies...you ask them to do this when they cant even follow simple team rules !!.

Im all for KISS... lets keep it simple.. the Bosses tell the players what to do..and whose leading them..and how.. and let the players play... some are simply not equiped I feel to THINK too much...they are overwhelmed by all the 'layers' being introduced.

Very true, but in most sporting teams across the planet the leaders are the guys who lead by example and don't get dropped because they are leaders on and off the ground. I don't understand why we don't fall into the category.

They dont get dropped because their on field performance and their contribution demands their selection every week.

We all agree that MFC have had deficiencies in leadership qualities. It would be great to have one of our Top 6 six to be the Captain we want. However, for previously thrashed out reasons our Top 6 are either in their twliight, too immature or do not have leadership capabilities.

The situation with Yze is not common but not that rare in AFL. I can recall Whitnall, Vanderburg, King and Harley being identified leaders and not being selected in the Top 22 for a game though being fit and available.

I think the leadership group is in transition. I would expect at least 4 changes at year end reflecting a number of issues that occur throughout the year.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
